Will the wait for GT5 be as long as GT4?

It could just be wishful thinking on my part, but I'm hoping that we won't have to wait four years for GT5. If they can use a lot of stuff from GT4 as a basis and build on that, it should speed up the development time. I would hope that when they built everything for GT4 from the ground up, they were thinking ahead. I would think that the hundreds of thousands of photos they took of cars and tracks could still be used.

And then they upgrade the physics and graphics engines, add some new features, and they're done! Sounds pretty easy! We could see GT5 by next Christmas...

...or not.

But if we have to wait four years, the game better have every car ever made. :)

I'm sure they are still going to use the same basic engine they already have, or if not, they should just polish GT4, give it tire skid marks, damage, more tracks, more cars, more intellegent game modes (b spec was cool, what else can they cook up?), and more cars on the tracks with online mode. I mean cmon gt4 looked awsome, they dont need to change it much, just add more.

more cars,
More cars??? Isn't 700+ not enough?? I wan't less cars but more real tracks. I am sure that nobody ever drives all 700 cars .

I almost completely agree with that. I would like to see the ratio of Japanese to Rest of World cars lower a good bit. More real tracks would be awesome.

And I would expect a few delays. Seems to be PD's style.

700 + cars isn't enough if your a car fanatic like me. I will drive every car in GT4. I want more of everything. PD COULD Seed up GT5, but if they don't give people what they want it will be waste. I say, take all the time that's need PD, Because if they put it out faster than they did GT4 it's going to suck. Let them take in all the conversation from people views and then go back to the drawing board. I think GT5 should have a new clean look other than the other GT series. Gotta start from scratch. I know that they have the latest technology and they got money. They really don't need anything from GT4.

By all accounts PD started work on GT5 sometime before the release of GT4. And KY said about recording more car data than was needed for GT4. I bet they will have a lot of the ground work done, and the next 2 years will be spent making the game. I guess the time scale will depend on what they decide to put into the game, like damage. But I can't see the PS3 being on the shelves for too long without a GT title alongside.

I'd say Christmas 2007 :)

i guess we can wait like until PS3 is released + 2-3 years and then hope we can get use of the new engine.hopefully you can buy the cars like GT1 could and not like have to search for the car forever

I think it shouldn't be too long, given that they have plenty of car data. The fact that they over designed GT4 and then cut it down means that they already have a good base.

I'm just praying that vision isn't a europe/japan only release.

I would say christmas 2007 or even 2008 ( especially if they decide to release a a GT 4.5 with 16 cars on track and onlinemode at launch )........

I don't know or care but I will not... absolutely, will not go through the GT4 hype on GTP again. I hate to say this but I think I'll have to have a mod ban me or get banned at that point. :scared: You guys pretty much drove me friggin crazy last time and I won't do it again.

Whatever they call it ("Vision Gran Turismo", "Gran Turismo Remastered", "Gran Turismo 4.5", "Gran Turismo 4, Steroid-Enhanced", or "Gran Turismo 5") you can bet a year's salary that it will be offered for sale on the day the PS/3 is released.

We'll never know what goes on in the maze of cubicles and conference rooms at Polyphony Digital, and we'll never know the real reasons why GT4 was almost two years late. Maybe PD badly overestimated what they could do with the old PS/2 platform and had to re-do many things before they could get GT4 to work at all. There's a fair chance, however, that, like others have said, the PS/3 version of the game is well along its development curve already and will be released much sooner than we might think.

Think of it this way: From the time of GT4's original intended release date to Spring of '06 (when most think the PS/3 will be released), will be about three years. That's about right for where GT5 would be in a normal release cycle, isn't it?

I think 700+ cars is enough, but only if that means 700+ cars, and not like in GT4 where you have like 400 cars and the rest are just different variants of some of the PD's favourite cars. We need A LOT more coverage for European and American cars, after all, Japan is only a small part of GT's total market. They really should consider that and put more non-Japanese cars in there. I'm not dissing Japanese cars, I like many of them a lot, but we need similar coverage for Eur and US cars too!
(and only two variants of each Skyline generation, PLEASE!)

or the delay was becouse they were trying to squeeze the last bit of power from the PS2. To have a idea of how hard this is to do, imagine you passing a license in GT with gold and to you the time you got is the perfect lap time but when you take a look at the database of times from around the world you see there is room for improvement. :banghead:

I'll probably be on a pension by the time it comes out. I might follow GT5s progress for as much amusement as actual interest. I'm pretty tired of GT not doing anything.

australian cars too :P

I want to See holden VL turbos, and HSV's, and Ford Falcon GTHOPhase3's

I'd want more real world circuits rather than more cars.

I really wouldn't be suprised to see GT as a launch title for the PS3.

I would be fairly confident that GT5 will be along not too far behind the release of the PS3 itself. The GT series has been a flagship title of the Playstation franchise and Sony will want to have some major hitting power available for the upcomming battle with the Xbox 360.
I think this was certainly a contributing factor to some of the delays experienced during the lead up to the GT4 release.

I know exactly what your saying.

Sony has set the PS3 for release in spring '06, but we know how that goes.
Seriously though, i think it will make that date. I imagine that there will be a GT variant available when released. I think the game that they wanted to release as GT4 will be the one released with the console. I believe the PS2 is to blame for the lack of features & glitches that are found with GT4.
I think all the features mentioned long ago by KY about GT4 may make it into the PS3 version of the game. A drift mode/competition, paint shop, a lending institution (aka BANK), online mode, garage cars, etc....
It seems that all of these features were & are ready to go, but the PS2 & DVD9 couldn't handle it all. So choices had to be made, things had to be dropped, & deadlines had to be meet.

with the PS3 though, all of these plus more can be had through the addition of the 50GB Blu-Ray disc & a detachable 2.5 hard drive. they said that they are going to have a system similar to Xbox online. "PlayStation World" which will allow for online gaming, but also for users to "exchange unique characters and items through the network"

so it sounds like to me you are going to have to change your mindset when thinking of the limitations of your gaming console when delaing with the PS3.

I don't think we will have to wait long...

The PS3 is due for release in Spring 2006, and GT5 will be a launch title, in other words, it should be ready to roll out with the PS3... I reckon 'GT5' may be more of an update, all the stuff that was probably already there for GT4, but the PS2 couldn't handle, like multiple (15) cars on tracks, online etc....

I would say earliest mid. 07. With all the new criterias set for the new system. They really got their hands tied down. Since power & coding for Dev.(PS3) is not the problem, time & testing will be.

A real GT5 shouldn't be due soon but I would not be surprised to see an intermediate version released when PS3 launches. And to be honest I'd be easily tempted to buy a PS3 even if the upgrade compared to GT4 is minor. Slightly better graphics (this should be very easy if they prepared GT4 well), more cars on the track and improved AI would be enough to do it for me. For all I care they keep most of the other things totally the same.

I agree. A new GT game will surely be out with the PS3 release. Maybe it is just a better GT4 - better AI, larger grids, online play, GT4P graphics - but not GT5.

These new features are, anyway, a good reason to buy the PS3 and the new GT game .

So, use your money carefully until Spring 2006 - you'll need it! :D

The Xbox 360 will have been on the market for quite a while when the PS/3 is released, so Sony will be forced to make their new device a very attractive purchase.

Its possible that games will be bundled with it, and there's a very good chance that "Gran Turismo 4 For The PS/3" will be one of them. Refer to Yeti's post #14 in this thread:

https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?p=1655000#post1655000

It is very possible that GT4 already has the capability we see in the "Vision Gran Turismo" demo, but it can't be utilized on the old PS/2. Don't be surprised if Sony includes a sort of "Gran Turismo 4 Unleashed" with every PS/3.

Later on down the road we'll get GT5, which will be the first version of the game to fully utilize the might of the PS/3.

Forza is beating GT4 in some aspects so PD has to best that AND Forza II (or whatever they think Forza II will be). I presume both, GT5 and Forza II, will have similar launch dates, Yes a GT4.5 version is probable.

Another thing is that Sony, and Microsoft, need to make some money out their games before rushing and making the next one.

I waited 3 years for GT4, and i'm willing to wait another 3 for GT5, aslong as it gave us what GT4 gave us over GT3. 👍
