Being crashed out of every race seems like the real life Daytona experience to be fair 🤣

When I've started from the front it's felt like you need to keep it tight in the yellow line, if you drift up half a cars width someone will have their nose there. You starting from the front doesn't make you more or less likely to crash it just means you don't see your killer 😆
You still get those that drove to the left of the yellow line down the main straight though, and then pit manoeuvre you......

This is what race A is this week, one group of players actively trying to take out anybody not in their friendship group. It was the same at SSRX too last time DR/SR were turned off. You can't get good oval races in sport mode now, I would love it if the game had all of these races ranked but using a oval specific DR.

I won't lie this one was actually pretty fun with the challenge of mirror driving trying to survive as long as possible but for those taken out after half a lap with no chance of getting back in the tow it's all a bit silly.

Very much expected given it’s set at SR off. Those people don’t care at all. The SSRX week last time around was a total joke. DR off is perfectly fine in my opinion to chill things out a bit but you cannot ever put SR off, it will always invite the imbeciles to act like this, they won’t miss the opportunity be an asshole.

So today when playing Race C, I started third. When the race got going, the top two users were in a clean battle but it was getting distracting already. So I took a chance & pitted at the end of the first lap. When I rejoined, I was dead last with no one ahead for many seconds. I just concentrated on my race & wanted to lap fast but without mistakes. I was able to focus enough to lap in 1:16s throughout the remainder of the race which ultimately got me the victory. It was quite satisfying.

I'm sure many users must be following this strategy but for me Watkins Glen hasn't been an easy track to get the flow & after racing there for 3 days, I'm getting comfortable. The past two Race C events (Le Mans & Dragon Trail) I had no issue with as I love those tracks & am comfortable driving there. So this last to first victory felt real satisfying & sweet at the same time.

On the positive side at least they've fixed the driving over the grass in the tri-oval at last, that's finally a 1 second penalty, the back straight yellow line thing is wrong in so many ways, it's no penalty for going below it to pass but if you get forced there you have to do a dangerous rejoin before your time runs out and you get reset half a mile back down the straight.

It was exactly the same when we had the Porsche race at Le Mans too, the only difference then was some of those players got bans (from memory one got 3 weeks).

Can't keep away from Race A - it's either that or the yawnfest that is Race C (exciting first lap, then 14 laps with everyone driving 5 seconds apart....).

FInally managed a race without getting taken out, started P6, finished P3.

I'm going to make the most of this too - very rare that I'm anywhere other than bottom of my friends list 😂 (P486 overall):-

Getting into the 47.2's is tough, well done chief.

Racing alone here only works if the rest of the drivers are fighting each other.
If they work together (bump-drafting) they would easily achieve mids 1:15s and you would be missing 1 second per lap against them so be careful with that strategy because only works against people who dont know what they are doing.

In some lobbies you see a lot of drivers fighting for position in T1, dragging all along the straight just to fight for position again in the bus stop. When you see that kind of drivers in front of you, your strat fits perfectly.

Official would be a bit hard with iRacing launching their own official Nascar game next week on console, but a generic modern stock car would be good.
While true I don't need an official car,ma NASCAR in similar vain to the unofficial GT3 cars we have will be fine.

NASCAR still exists? NASCAR lost it's relevance decades ago.

Of all the things they could add in terms of features or car type, NASCAR is the worst suggestion. It was novelty at best in GT5. Sure, if they added some classic NASCAR stockers from the 60's or 70's, that would be kind of cool (like race A), but beyond that NOPE, no thanks.
Wrong ( regarding worst decision), i can fill a lobby in a very short time with a proper NASCAR. All levels of drivers can compete on Daytona. It doesn't matter how popular NASCAR is. F1 is popular yet I can never fill a lobby and have to wait ages. Only lobby I've had success in filling is GR.3 at red bull ring but that's with 4 or 5 of us already in. NASCAR races are fun and relatively easy.

Its just not a popular style of racing in most regions, the Nascar and F1 stuff jusy isnt as fun for a lot of people, GR3 with some assists on makes for fast fun racing.

What we like isnt always how the wider peeps feel.

Will be interesting to see if the player counts in the US region specifically drops after next week, when there’s a new simcade on the market.
Honestly I don’t think it will make a difference, historically it’s all levelled out again. There may be a drop but I bet the same people are in my lobbies, Just don’t see it myself that anything/game is going to be compelling multiplayer to sway the numbers

Yeah the next 2 months will be an interesting loyalty test. How committed are Sport players to GT? Especially the ones always crying out for new GT3s/Hypercars and tracks. Is the spec 3 content enough or will they jump ship to PMR (or Rennsport I guess for the crazies). Will the US players switch to Nascar?

I’ve seen people jump, fair play but in the same vain I don’t think their ties were as much as a 25 year veteran who only uses a console etc

We will see, but I’d bet the attrition rate is a lot less than we think.

The daily races numbers are so stable in the context of this thread it’s hard to call

I am a bit ignorant of other titles, do any current or future console titles offer the same sort of "jump on and there's 3 races a week i can race against peeps roughly my skill level"? That's what always brings me back, 2 kids, wife, work etc but on a Tuesday night i can wander into the basement at 930pm and be side by side in a competitive race within 10 minutes. That's a huge sell to me anyways.

Project Motor Racing will probably be the closest, if everything they claim/promise happens. Their multiplayer sounds the closest to GT7 in terms of pick up and play.

The ones who cryies out loud for new race cars are the most committed ones to GT7 because they already have what they ask for in other titles and however they are still here complaining update after update 🤷‍♀️

The difference is those other titles were mostly on PC (or Xbox). These new ones are on PS5, until now ACC was pretty much the only other show in town for non-F1 circuit racing.

EDIT - I somehow forgot Grid Legends, and I own it. Oops. Must human-like AI in any racing game (they are psychopaths if you hit them).

I have ACC and it;s good and all but a) i find navigation really confusing and b) i don't really want to be bogged down with endless set up changes etc, i just do not have the time. Lock the cars, let's race peeps, that's where GT7 is a win for me.

On NASCAR and F1 etc, a little here and there in GT7 is fine, maybe they have it right with just a few historic cars to make it fun but not diluting the game the way rallying does (imho).

Bah, uncivilized yanks with their silly left turns...🤣

But in all fairness you can look at it the other way as well (the beauty of data)

I started in GT1 and 2 and then went to PC and then came back back to console. I don’t think it’s the platform that is the driver for things more the accessibility.

Specifically new games where the lobbies will be sparse at least initially I don’t think there is that much more racing out there in the same way as GT for a lot of factors.
