i'm wondering if anyone here uses Windows Live Messenger. is there a difference with the MSN Messenger 7.5 than the Live Messenger? if there is a difference, what is it?

Yes there are a few differences, mainly in the visual styling, but the biggest difference I have found, is that it is incredibly unstable...

The only stability issue I have is when people invite me into giant group chats with a ton of people talking while I'm asleep ( ). It normally crashes when I try to close the window in the morning.

That's because you're logging the chats. :)

We'll try not to invite you but sometimes, douchebags invite people to piss them off on purpose.

i just downloaded Windows Live Messenger and it seems to me that everything is running good. hopefully it stays that way because my computer has gone through a lot. if it could handle editing a movie for over 24 hours, it could handle some windows with words in them 👍

Oh? Is there a way to not log chats, but log normal convos?

👍 Thanks. Not that I don't like you guys, ( :sly: ) I just don't like giant chats.

Gaim isn't playing nice with my GTK version. I need this version to run the GIMP so I'm forced to use AIM :( (I know about other clients, but I prefer Gaim or AIM).

I just installed Live Messenger since my roommate for next year doesn't have AIM. I'll add my name to my profile later.

Yes - unlogging your chats gets rid of a mass of problems. I done this a few weeks ago and is 70% more stable than it was. I still get the occational random freezing where I have to do an alt-ctrl-del to close it, and the voice clips I receive sometimes crashes it when I try to play them, but other than that, it's slightly more stable than it was before. :) Plus, the visual changes are nice, but now it's hard to tell wether someone is "Busy, Away" etc because the icons are too small and blend into the background easily, so I sometimes talk to someone when they are Away...

I don't think so. I would like that myself, but I don't think it's possible.

And yes, when I start a convo, I try to invite people that WANT to be there, unlike some people who invite every single person online at the time...

I don't care for those group chats either. Please don't invite me if you can.

What I can't stand about M8 are the very slow file transfers. They totally suck. I want to go back to M7.

I don't think I've ever seen you in the chats,.

I haven't had any real problems with it compared to M7. And I've been using it since it went beta...

Slow Filetranfers - Meh!... That's not really M$s fault - Not being able to get a direct connection will do that - Has more to do with what kind of Firewall / Router you have.

Works fine for me but when the Windows Live Today window pops up when you first start it up, that part, well... Lags a lot and I have to wait a while.

I like the new messenger and the LIVE branding of everything..... looks really nice although I miss the small contact list pictures in 7.5....... all in all its good and ive had no stablility issues.... If you want tabbed chat windows get messenger live plus..... its quite handy... MS should have included it anyway!

I hate Live. 7.5 is way better.

Yeah, its kinda funny, quite alot of my freinds and other people on the net dont like it, either because of they way it looks or the fact that it uses quite alot of resources.....hmmm
