Wing mirrors are back to front?

I have just been watching the IGN GT5P videos:

http://media.video.ign.com/ev/ev.ht...rack1_032008_flvhighwide.flv&object_ID=949777

And noticed something wrong.. The right wing mirror is showing what you should see on the LEFT... Check out the 4th video.. At about 30secs a white car appears in the right mirror and then overtakes on the left...

When i looked back at all of them, they are all wrong...

I havn't been able to find any other videos (which show an in car view and wing mirrors) so can't confirm whether this is just something funny with the version IGN are testing (hopefully just a beta), but lets hope that this isn't a problem in the final release!

I have look at a few videos on Youtube and the mirrors appear to be right.. But they are 'left hand drive' cars.. I just wonder if this is a problem on Right hand drive cars? Or perhaps just some kind of setting whihc can be changed...

nothing wrong with any of the videos. Its puerly the car that was behind ended up going behind the car on video after being overtaken hence it ends up visible in the right mirror. If you pay attention to the moment you talk about in the 4th video, you notice the car goes flying rightwards in the video.

They all seem correct to me.

The "white car one" I presume is the white Mustang? That car quickly shifted from the Mazda's right to left to overtake.

Sorry JPap and GT, but I challenge you to watch again and tell me I am wrong.

I have studied all 4 videos and I guarantee those mirrors are wrong...

For example, look at a track where there is a stadium on the left.. Racing line on the left.. Barrier on the left.. And countryside on the right......

In the right mirror you should see 'countryside'.. But what you see is Stadium.. Barriers.. Racing line.

Those mirrors are wrong... Why? Now thats the quesiton!

You didn't really need to tell us 3 times though.

EDIT: I think you're just being confused because you can't see the side of the car in the mirror.

Sorry. just thinking aloud, as I was surprised that no-one agrees.. And to be honest still am.. They just don't look right!

The angle of the mirror does seem to be a little extreme (but I'm not 100% sure since I don't drive in real life)... but it is correct. The video where he's racing against the red Mazda Altezza, there are yellow markings on the left side which don't appear on the right mirror right at the beginning, and the width of the track in all the videos is always on the left side of the mirror when he's driving on the right side, etc. I don't think it's helping that you can only see half of the right mirror.

They are correct, but like one said, the angle is a bit too extreme so it looks like it is reflecting what the left side should reflect.

I think jweaver is right, and the mirrors are swapped. I watched the first video that loads, "Beauty in car form". When it starts, the car is on the right of the track, and there's a yellow line on the left side. In the mirror however, you see the whole width of the track (which you shouldn't, as there is not much track between the car and the track on the right side) as well as the yellow line (which you also shouldn't).
A bit later, the car goes to the inside of the left-hander. Here, you see the apex in the right mirror, although it actually could only show the rest of the track on the right. This isn't an extreme angle either, as you could only see the apex if you could see anything of the car. Therefore, I do agree they are swapped.

It was the same when PGR 3 came out, you would see grass in the mirror were the road should have been, it's fine in the japanese demo, but can't view the above vids I'm on the Ps3.

JWeaver is correct.

Watch as a car passes, you do not see this car pass in that mirror and judging by the angle needed to not see this car, you would not see the road either, especially at the angle it is currently showing the road. The image being displayed in that right hand side mirror is what you would expect to see if it were on the left hand side. It seems PD have taken the left mirror, put it on the right hand side but have not changed to the correct perspective.

Please check the latest IGN videos closely, they are definately bugged.

I certainly hope Polyphony are on the ball and have an online patch ready to go come release.

I agree - the driver's side mirror in the clip linked to is showing the infield of the track.

I hate to disagree, especially with the indigo one, but I don't think it is reversed.

We're not seeing the whole mirror, especially the very important right hand side of it, and we don't see the side of the car. The side of the car would normally block out a portion of the view. I believe that what you are seeing in the side mirror, is what the rear view mirror is seeing.

What we are seeing is not a normal wing mirror view, but it is not reversed.

👍 I agree.

As mentioned it looks like it's just the rear-view mirror - the right-side of the rear view being cropped to fit into the right mirror.

Not reversed as in what's in the left of it should be in the right of it. But it is showing detail which the other side mirror would show - the trackside in the images is the left/infield instead of the right/outfield.

Of course we'd need to see the left-hand side mirror too.

The angle shown doesn't match up for it to be this. The image shown in that right side mirror is what you would expect to see if you were looking from the left wing mirror.

Pause the first video 10 seconds in as they are taking the left hand curve. That right mirror should show nothing but road and possibly the car behind, definately not the grass verge and Michelin boarding.

*EDIT*, also look 20 seconds in as they overtake the car. The car passes on the left side and the right hand mirror displays exactly what you would expect to see from the left wing mirror.

just watched the vid too and am a bit worried...so from next week on people wont see what they are supposed to in the mirrors when starting to play the game???....how wierd!!

Reviewing the case and looking deeper into it, I think this pretty much nails it. The following picture is taken out of the video "Pure flight":

As you can see, the car drives just just right of the yellow line, maybe a bit onto it. The rear view mirror tells us the same thing. The right mirror however also displays the yellow line, which it should not, and could not in a real car. However, regarding the angle of the line, this is not the image we would see in the left mirror either. If it were, the line should be parallel to the cars side, which it obviously isn't.

I think what we're seeing here is pretty much this:

The blue arrow represents the rear view mirror, which is accurate. The green arrow represents the right mirror, which displays an image you'd see nothing but your own car with in real life. In the game however, the mirrors do not display your own car, so the mirror actually looks through your car and therefore sees the other side, a bit behind the car.
This also matches what you see in the videos. There, the mirror seems to display the other side, but there is a certain lag to what you see in the mirror, which means that it displays your left side quite a chunk behind the car. I still have no idea why they did this though, as I see no benefit.

good view you made there interceptor...i totally agree with you there...
so it somehow looks like they try to kill the "dead zone" which you always have in anycar looking thru your mirrors....but if its that(i cannot think of any other explanation..)than it is the worst thing i ever saw....really,this cannot be it!!!....whats up here??...

the_interceptor hit the nail on the head. That's exactly what I think is happening.

I personally think it's a good thing since it allows you to see more of your surroundings, but one could argue it lessens the realism.

Well, if they did it intentionally, I really have to question it. When I'm driving, I have the mirrors to tell me what's going on behind me. And if I see a car in the right mirror, I'd expect to find it on my right, and not somewhere behind me on my left. In my book, this can only be confusing, especially when you have to meet decisions in an instant.

exactly man..so,if any of the guys who are racing the game allready could comment on this (amar...)we would hopefully be tolld we are mistaking....beceause dudes, this would be ....well not good!!!:grumpy:

I'm sure this will be fixed by the time GT5 retail is released. It's the prologue... there's still a lot of work in progress. Before the tokyo motor show, the rear view and side mirrors were still a low res mess. Patience boys.

GT5 is a long long way away, mid to late next year, I should think this issue would be fixed by then, so don't stress.
