"Wet tyre day" has been brought forward to today as the condition in Jerez were not great, so Pirelli decided to soak the track now and hope Friday will be better.

Autosport's commentary is, as usual, entertaining when the journalists get bored.

Kimi doing a Gilles! :D 👍

Sorry for the double posting, but this is a "back to topic" one.

I'm very impressed with the pace of Bottas in the Williams. Not sure if it is just luck or simply a team that has done its proper homework before hitting the track, but I'm beginning to hope there's something to be noticed there.

Day 2 video from F1times

Was Perez forced to sit in the smoking car until mechanics arrived or did he just decide to wait himself? Hate to think what would happen after a high speed accident.

Laps in 2 days: Mercedes 115, Ferrari 78, Sauber 60, Force India 48, McLaren 43, Williams 42, Toro Rosso 15, Caterham 12, Red Bull 11.

LOL, cheeky but if we get that all Renault -engined teams are in real trouble, we also get that Lotus is in trouble and it's not only because of Renault. I don't care much for them, but I'm worried for Grosjean.

Anyway, neljack's table is telling. Mercedes and Ferrari engines have clocked about 50 laps per car (Ferrari's engine average is unbalanced by the no-show of Marussia, but we all know their absence is not engine related) and Renault is ... well ... far behind.

Even more impressive is the advantage of Mercedes the auto-maker. Rosberg today did almost the double of the average engine runs (he did 97 laps) and he managed long stints in the process. He was the ONLY guy to do this.

Despite the horrendous looking noses on most cars; i'm looking forward to the new season with the new engine sounds, the different handling, how the grid was shaken up with the new rules...

Just hope they find a way to censor the schlong noses during broadcasts, in case children are watching!

Things are looking good for Mercedes powered cars. Ferrari stops again, and Renault powered cars can't even finish a timed lap.

11:01 A smoking RB10 is parked out on track. Ricciardo makes a quick exit, and then inspects the rear of his car.
11:00 It's the Red Bull...

11:00 Red flag. We're not sure what the cause is yet.
10:58 Red Bull is out. Daniel Ricciardo takes to the track for the first time in the RB10, which has completed just 11 laps so far in 2014 testing.

Wow ... :odd:

11:02 Jaw. Floored.

Newey used to be known for his fast but unreliable designs (frustratingly for all McLaren fans), extra cooling? Renault blaming the ERS systems, but I heard something last night that Red Bull think it was actually the Turbo that went bang.

I can see that happening A LOT this season and not just with RBR.

Yeah, but RBR's having real issues now, not even done with the first sector and the thing Webbahs on him, not looking good at all for Renault powered cars.

Merc and Ferrari have so many more laps over them too.

Hard to say how good Newey's design is when the Renault power plant keeps going pop

Mercedes look to be well ahead at the moment.

This is a proper nightmare for Renault. just check the last two runs by Toro Rosso, the only Renault powered team that managed to set a laptime today:

SHORTLY AFTER 3 PM STR FINALLY SETS A LAPTIME. THEN THE CAR STOPS ON TRACK

15:10 Vergne has also gone out in the Toro Rosso, so we have three cars on-track.
15:11 Vergne finally gets a proper time in, but he is still eighth.
15:15 He goes quicker again to move ahead of Sutil's Sauber.
15:16 But he comes by the pits rather slowly and things don't look good.

15:16 And it's another red flag as the Toro Rosso grinds to a halt.
15:19 Vergne has stopped just past the pit exit. He's out, but this just underlines how terrible this test has been so far for the Renault teams.

15:21 Green again for the last 40 minutes.

AFTER THE CAR IS RECOVERED, HE TRIES TO GO OUT AGAIN:

15:45 Good news for Toro Rosso, as Jean-Eric Vergne heads out.

15:46 Make that bad news - he doesn't even make it to the pit exit before pulling to a halt. Red flag.
15:47 Helmet in hand, Vergne takes a look around the car before trudging back down the pitlane, just as his crew coming running up from the garage.
