Ever wish you'd have thought of a name good enough for your latest, fabulous race series? Same here. Anyway, I haven't. But let's take a look anyway.

The primary objective of this series of races is to use cars which are easy to handle, in an attempt to promote tight, exciting and competitive action.

We've got nine weeks of racing, with one car and one track per meeting. Your two lowest scoring weeks will not count, so if you have to miss a couple of weeks you won't lose many points.

Track limits on, tuning banned, T/C and ABS allowed. Damage, visual only, engine damage off. Fuel and tyre wear standard.

The first race will have ten minutes of qualifying, followed by a race of approximately ten minutes.

Race two will have no qualifying, starting with a random grid. It will last about seventeen minutes.

Race three will have fifteen minutes of qualifying for which there will be points, the equivalent of the racing. Then, when the race starts, we all drive slowly, moving over to the side of the track your grid position has given you. The person who qualified at the back moves to the centre of the track and drives past the other cars. Person in second from last place follows last person through, and the person in third from last follows second last through. So on and so forth, until the person who was on pole is at the back, with the whole pack in single file.

Then, at a pre-determined place on the track(which will be an exit from a corner), we start racing. This race will be about thirty-five minutes long, to give everyone plenty of opportunity to climb back up the field.

Okay... to the car/track combos:

Monday 27th March, 8:00pm BST. Ginetta G40 Junior, Fuji. 4, 8 and 15 laps. Spring time, and cloudy.

Monday 3rd April, 8:00pm BST. Ford Escort RS1600 (Road G), Brands Hatch GP. Spring time, cloudy. 5, 9 and 17 laps.

Monday 17th April. Lotus 25 (Vintage F1D), Sakkito GP. Spring, a little cloud around. Track limits will be off, because they are extremely strongly policed around here, and I want to give everyone the best chance they can have of keeping away from the interlocked wheel scenario.

Races will be 5, 8 and 15 laps.

BMW 2002 (Road G), Bathurst.

Today! Monday 8th May. Ford Escort RS1600 Racing, Bannochbrae.

KTM Gr4, Nurb Nord.

SOMETIME SOON!
BMW 2002 Stanceworks
, Rouen Les Essarts Short. Summer, light cloud.

Ferrari 355 (355 Challenge), Snetterton 300.

BMW 320TC, Sakkito (Winter, on ice).

The lap numbers to follow, as will weather conditions. Generally the weather will be user friendly, to keep to the objective of the series as a whole.

Does anyone know what tag to use for Beach?

Folks, I wonder if there is anyone who has reason to find a day other than Monday to be better suited for their racing. I'm saying this because I know that you're an awfully polite lot, and probably wouldn't want to rock the boat, even if you did have a preference, so to speak.

Well, if you do have cause to prefer a night other than Monday, here's an invitation to speak up about it.

But you will be here on Monday 27th March, yeah?

I know I have been irregular in my participations but that's nothing to do with the day of the week we race in, more to do with stupid amounts of work lately and some traveling also work related. All in all I think monday racing is fine.

Regarding the 27th races, I have a meeting scheduled for next Monday at 6 PM but will do my best to be home in time for the fun. Will talk to Duarte (in London these days but I think will be back by monday). He's even more work afflicted than I am now.

PS - As he should be, young guys must word harder and longer so we old folks can relax and play games! :D

Sorry for my absence from race 3 owing to the sudden rodent intrusion incident. The trials and tribulations of a (virtual) racing driver. I must remember to add 'lock the cat flap' to my pre-race procedure.

A fun little car the Ginetta junior.

Golly gumdrops fellas! I must say I'm chuffed with that set of results. Not just the results, but I really enjoyed the racing too; the finishes flattered me a bit, it was really hard work.

t's a pity that Paul was distracted by some big-game hunting, but hopefully he'll make it throughout next week, and maybe one or two more will be able to join us. Bring on Brands!

This is one group where you can't just turn up and race (at least not me, took me a while before I could slim down my lap times to match the front runners). But indeed it was great fun and especially the last race was a thrilling experience with a race-long battle against @richroo until finally the evil sorcerer Zolon (your internet name looks like something suited to a villain in a Flash Gordon movie so I'm going with that :D ) got to us both and overtook us to grab the win at the line. Great racing all around!

Now ... about this championship's name ... :odd: ... we have to do something about this!

I propose a "name the series" challenge between us all. We all can submit entries until the start of next week's race and then @Zolon32 picks the one he likes the most (hell probably pick one of his own entries anyway :P )

I'll start by submitting two entries:

- The Zolon's Obviously Madder and Badder Idea Ever Series (ZOMBIE Series for short)

- The World Racing Eccentric Cars Kerfuffle Series (WRECK Series for short)

:D

Close-ish. It's certainly has a science fiction connection. Got a Kindle? Want to help a author saving up for a PS5? 😉

You've now got my brain ticking over with series titles. Won't sleep tonight. 😀

Sounds like a plan Mario!

All suggestions welcome :)

While I'm here I'll mention the fact that I expect the number of laps at Brands to be very similar to the races at Fuji. Also, I'll post the details of the weather as soon as I can work it out. The Ford comes with "street" tyres which, just like road tyres in the real world, overheat rather easily. Even testing them on a cloudy day in January they began to turn yellow, edging towards orange, after far too few laps.

A little light rain might be the answer, and I'm going to experiment with turning tyre wear off, see if that prevents them from losing grip. Anyway, I'll let you know as soon as I know.

I've recently done 5 or so 7 lap races at Brands in the Escort on the default date, Spring I think, and I don't think the tyres got too hot. Mind you I was cruising with the window down listening to this new fangled 8 track player I've had fitted. Groovy man.

I've just rechecked and my Escort was fitted by default with "all weather" tyres, which as I mentioned didn't seem to overheat particularly. Not sure how you got street tyres. Edit - yes I do. You chose the OEM setup. Loose and stable have the all weathers.

Boney M I bet ...
They are on there, "Ra Ra Rasputin, lover of the Russian queen". Great song. The album is a new series call Now That's What I Call Music, volume 1. Not sure if it'll catch on.

Woohoo! I have absolutely no idea how I'd done it, but my Loose setting had street tyres attached. It's reset to default now... and what a freakin difference. Grip, moderate temperature, longevity, it's how I was hoping the Escort would be, and was alarmed to find out it wasn't yesterday.

And now I can kick the AI's ass again.

EDIT, NUMBER OF LAPS CHANGED: So folks, it'll be spring, with light/medium cloud cover, 5, 9 and 17 laps.

Yay, another evening without being disconnected and on top of that... no mice either. Things are on the up. 🙂

A good evening's racing everyone.

Indeed it was!

For some reason this Ford Escort/Brands Hatch combo really suited me, quite unlike the previous Ginetta/Fuji one where I really never felt at ease.

Regardless, and this applies to both races, racing low powered cars with decent levels of grip and bqalanced behaviour really allows for very VERY close racing and so both Fuji and Brands had some excellent racing going on.

I guess the next combo (lotus 25/Suzuka) will be different, if we get side by side it won't be fender-scrapping and paint-scratching, it'll be more like tyre-tangling and bam everybody dies kind of stuff! :

In any case it should be fun. I have been thinking for a long time that it would be fun to do a Formula Ford championship using the british traditional tracks but the issue that made me refrain from suggesting it is really that formula racing in a virtual environment is conducive to many roll overs and angry moments! we'll see how that goes at Suzuka!

Hi guys. I am not witk you on track, but I still read all news according this group. Standing table above shows you have many close battles.
BTW did you notice how improved half within last year? @half_sourly keep going and kick theese asses :), I joined your fan club.

Ha ha, thanks Napalm, I'm doing my best to give Zolon, Mario and the boys a run for their money.

It's all this Fanatic gear he's now got. You know it makes you quicker. 😉
Good to see you're still checking in with us. 👍

And series name? The B & Q championship (Best & Quickest).

....Zolon, who had a nightmare! Honestly chaps, I was giving it my all, but some combos just don't click. I wouldn't mind, but I felt I was really comfortable in practice. Hey ho. It does make the championship interesting.

It's his calming tones that do it. I'm sure he's hypnotising us all. And, great to see that you're still in touch Napalm 👍

Spot on!

Since we're taking a little break, to allow folks to have a life outside racing during this easter, how about a bit of Rallycross? The circuits are short enough to learn quickly, and it's a bit different from the norm.

I'd love to do some rally X (and the ice track) but the problem is that the tracks will only allow a maximum of 6 players. Now that's fine if there are only 6 of us but if there's more we'd need an alternative.

Setting the maximum players to 12 would allow Knock hill and Caldwell - which don't get used much. Setting it to 8 would allow Silverstone Stowe.

Oval Racing? But that's better with more people.

Rightio, we'll do RX if there are no more than half a dozen of us, and have a go at Knockhill in some good old Scottish weather if more show up.

Racing at Sakkito is going to be set for spring tonight folks. A little cloud around, with races of 5,8 and 15 laps. Track limits will be off.

I won't be racing tonight so if someone could please capture results (remember the qualifying that counts) I will update scoring.

Great races last night, that Lotus 25 is a really fun car to drive and 4-wheel slide, as the guys used to do back in the day (shown in the picture below, from f1fanatic)

Race 1 (5 laps) and 2 (8 laps) were spent in close-quarter fighting with Zolon, I made some mistakes and he won them both fair and square. Quali (that gives out points as if it was race 3) I managed pole by a few hundreths of a second and race 3 proper I managed to gain the lead, and then manage a small gap (about 3 seconds), largely benefitting from the fact that Zolon and raeggee were battling in 2nd and 3rd position. Still, as it happened in races 1 and 2, I almost ruined it towards the end with a few unprovoked mistakes. Very tense!

Roll on Bathurst/BMW
