RC Cars! And miss Spa? You must be kidding. There must be a woman involved there somewhere. Lol

I have been thinking of an idea for a sunday series.

The majority of series' out there seem to be of a set structure in nature. You know who is racing, what car they are racing and the race dates
and times. That is great for those people who time on their hands to set up the car and practice the track, but what about those people who
love online racing, but don't have time to set up and practice and also for those who like a bit of randomness and who like to drive different
cars in the same series.

So I want to create a series where the competitors decide which direction the championship takes. On each race night the driver who finished
highest in the previous weeks race, decides which category of car we race this week (from a pre-defined list of categories - which we will call the 'Race pack'). Then the 2nd
highest placed driver from the previous week chooses which track we race at (from the 'race pack').
Then the lowest placed driver from the previous week chooses the tyre selection, number of laps (and possibly even pit stop rules) for this
weeks race (also from the race pack). Then the fun begins...

Each 'race pack' consists of a category of car and a selection of suited tracks for the category of car and tyre/pitstop selections.

For example:

'Race Pack 1' - High-end Luxury family sedans
Dritetrain FR
Min weight - 1900kg
PP Limit - 520

Tracks
Monza
High Speed ring
Circuit de la Sarthe
Daytona
Indionapolis

Tyres
30 laps - Racing Hard, with 1 stint on racing medium allowed, 1 pit stop mandatory.
25 laps - Racing mediums but you must do at least 10 laps on Sports Softs, 1 pit stop mandatory.
28 laps - Racing softs, with 1 stint on racing hards. Must do 2 pitstops at least.

'Race Pack 2' - Hot Hatch FWD
Dritetrain FF
Min weight - 920kg
PP Limit - 460

Tracks
Tsukuba
Grand Valley East Section
Deep Forest Raceway
Laguna Seca Raceway
Circuito de Madrid

Tyres
30 laps - Racing Soft, with 1 stint on racing Hard mandatory Pitstop windows at laps 12-14 and 24-26
25 laps - Racing soft but you must do at least 10 laps on Racing hards, 1 pit stop mandatory.
28 laps - Racing softs, with 1 pitstop mandatory or. Any other tyre with no pitstops.

'Race Pack 3' - Muscle Cars pre 1979.
Dritetrain FR
Min weight - 1450kg
PP Limit - 500

Tracks
Daytona Road course
Indionapolis Road course
Toscana (Time)
Trial Mountain Circuit / Reverse

Tyres
25 laps - Racing Soft, with 1 stint on racing medium mandatory.
30 laps - Racing Softs with 2 pit stops mandatory
28 laps - Racing softs, 1 pit stop. everyone has to make a pit stop on lap 16

'Race pack 4' - Snow Rally
Drivetrain - Any
Min Weight - 700kg
PP Limit - 575

Tracks
Chamonix - 20 laps
Chamonix Main (Weather) - 16 laps
Chamonix East (Weather) - 22 laps
Chamonix West (Weather) - 26 laps
Chamonix Mini (Weather) - 42 laps

Tyres
All on snow tyres - no choice.

'Race Pack 5' - Same Car Recommended
Previous weeks winner chooses any car they like from the Recommended tab.
Dritetrain - N/A
Min weight - None
PP Limit - N/A

Tracks - The higher the pp of the chosen car the longer the more laps we do.
Fuji Speedway F
Suzuka Circuit
Nürburgring
Cape Ring Outside

Tyres
If chosen car is < 300pp then Comfort Medium
If chosen car is > 300pp and < 350pp then Comfort Soft
If chosen car is > 350pp and < 400pp then Sports Hard
If chosen car is > 400pp and < 450pp then Sports Medium
If chosen car is > 450pp and < 485pp then Sports Soft
If chosen car is > 485pp and < 525pp then Racing Hard
If chosen car is > 525pp and < 560pp then Racing Medium
If chosen car is > 560pp then racing softs.

*The lowest placed finished from the previous week chooses the pit-stop rules.

There will be many many more 'race-packs' to choose from and the championship will run in a similar manner to the lupo cup with quali, sprint race and main event.

Obviously this series will suit those racers who have larger garages of cars, but with prior publication of the 'Race Packs', drivers will have time to aquire any missing cars for their garages.

Let me know what you think of the concept.

It might actually end up more work for you to organize which will give you less time to play. For me it's more about the quality of the guys we race with than the cars we race. Good clean racing is what it's all about for me :)

I think its important to keep it simple and the least time consuming as possible.

What I loved about the Lupo series is I just got in the car and drove it , no in depth tuning was needed and I could still be competitive . Obviously you can see the extra half second that is gained by tuning your car but I think keeping it simple is the way to go.

Another 1 car series is the way to go , my suggestion is after this Lupo series we vote on another car and run a series with it as well . We do the same , have a limited pp preferably under 500 pp , my opinion is the lower the pp the closer and more fun the racing .

The sprint and feature race formula is brilliant and is the way to do it

I don't like the idea of mixing sports and racing tires in a race .

I think if you want to use 2 compounds , use the racing medium and racing soft.

I really do enjoy the setup aspect of the racing. It's not like you have to spend hours and hours perfecting it, but the more powerful the car the more setup is needed. We had a very successful GT500 series before the Lupos and we were running 620 pp. The racing was actually cleaner than in our present Lupo Cup. I think the more you practice and work your setup the better and cleaner the races are, because all the guys are more in control of the cars and know where the overtaking spots are and where it's impossible to overtake without a major incident. Setup is just about optimizing the car according to your style. Other people's setups never work for me, as mine probably wouldn't work for someone else, but setup is a big part of the game and it will always win races..... no matter how simple we make the series. Just my opinion.... I'm actually willing to race anything :)

You are right CanU but it is easier to setup a Lupo than a GTR or NSX .

With that said can one of you send me a GTR GT500 setup , I'm interested to see what someone elses tune is like . I've been driving the Calsonic GTR in leagues recently , I've only won 1 race but I've qualified 2nd and placed 2nd many times.,

Sounds interesting Homes. I think it could be a lot more competitive but still some guys know which cars perform better in a particular "race pack" or can figure out while the guy with little time pitches up on race night, chooses a car without a setup and gets his butt whipped lol.
In my opinion for a Sunday race maybe recommended cars and all race the same car then we all have the same car and same setup making it fair to every1.
Maybe the car and track can be decided after a race giving a week until we run that selection.
For example imagine Grand valley speedway all running the castrol supra with same setup(recommended garage),every1 has a chance to win, all depends on driver skill and not setup skill. Then Tsukuba and the Lancer. Lots of variety and fair to everyone.
Anyways just an idea ;)

The Calsonic Gtr is Driver101 territory, he should have a perfect setup by now. Lol. I'm a Honda man!

Wow Homes.... that's a lot to think about.

But hey....I am keen, if it means close clean racing I am there.

Personally: I would love to see "The Rising Sun Part 2"

Driver 101 send me that setup !!!!

I think the right idea as someone posted earlier is to use recommended cars with no tuning and that will keep the races real close .

Me too, I missed most of the rising sun as I was still discovering that the best drivers are south african lol, just kidding, I only started online racing at that time.
I will prob opt for a Honda but would love to run a Nissan if the setup is competitive. I experimented with the lexus but that has no balls down the straight otherwise i would run it, will ahve to see:idea:

SkengD - I have played so much with it that I don't even know what I have now....lol

Yip BYO....you will do well in it. It was a great series and I miss it. I am not such a fan of the recommended cars, think that idea is great for one off races.

I think the Rising Sun should return, it was awesome, super close, fair and the cars used seemed to work well. We had full practice rooms open over the weekend where guys could see if they were on the pace, we all worked hard at set up, and by the time we raced we were all so flippen quick.

Bring it Back

I would love to race my Honda again..... I really miss her :( I'm all in for a "The Rising Sun Part 2"........ but only after I wip you boys with the Lupos. Lol.

We can run it the same way we run the Lupos.... qualifying, sprint race, reverse order main race with a mandatory pit stop. Bring it on!!!!

Oh and I must agree with you Byo, the last series proved that the South Africans are no.1 ;)..... maybe we can throw a Corvette in the mix for the American boys.

as long as we're going to be racing cars they might as well be race-cars. the problem a lot of other series have is they give you a lot of cars but only a few are fast enough to win. you can fix this with a "One Make Series". this puts everyone in the same car so no one has the advantage of a better pick of car. I also don't like running faster cars without aids. I can tolerate not having them in slow cars.

So.. are we still racing Lupos tomorrow at Grand Valley Speedway East Reverse?

my best lap 1:11.033

I think that's why pre season testing is so important..... you get to choose your car, so you gotta make sure you choose the right one :) Last seasons Rising Sun Cup was very successful with the top guys in the championship in different cars. I think the top 5 were 2 Hondas and 3 GTRs and there was hardly anything to choose between them.

I think the gt500 leagues are the most fun ive had and been having in gran turismo 5 .

Im currently in 2 leagues and would be interested in one if you guys started one , I cant run in more than 3 leagues at a time so it would have to be after we completed the Lupo league.

I just dont have the time nowadays .

Let's enjoy the Lupo cup for now and we can possibly start discussing and planning a Rising Sun Cup Part 2..... that's if Homes is up to it ;)

Of course I am up to it ;)

Just thinking about creating a sunday series in addition to thursdays.

Can someone please send me those quali results form last week so I can do the points?

Also, I can't make tomorrow so If Driverone0one is happy to host (again)???, you guys can carry on as normal. Just remember to send me the results :)

Also running in high 1.10s, racing gona be tight again, that first corner is one to look out for. Don't forget to change your oil hehe ;)

No probs Homes.

We will race in my lounge tonight guys.

Homes - I cant help you there bud, I don't even remember where I started and finished. Think I was around third throughout the night. Yes....thats it. Wait...no....yes....I finished third in the main race.
