Would you like it if PD had some "imitations"?

Like cars from companies not licensed.

For example, I like this car:

But PD does not have Porsche, and it does have RUF but I dont think RUF ever made a car like that.

So how about just making the same car with different logos and slight alterations and call it something different? Just have the physics and sound similar? Kind of like what some games do when they dont have licenses but instead copy the look of a real car and dont have the real brand listed?

"Introducing the 'Gran Turismo Le Mans Race Car That Looks Strangely Familiar To Another Le Mans Legend'." I can see it now... :nervous:

I remember suggesting this for Turn10 in Forza, but how what if PD used their name like a manufacturer and created their own lineup of cars? There are currently some tuned cars in the game, but a model range of original cars designed by Polyphony Digital would be pretty interesting.

They could make a hot hatch, sports sedan, muscle car, sports coupe, supercar and a few different types of race cars(GT & LMP LeMans, WRC, Super GT & DTM?).

Judging from the tuned cars, the X2010 and their work on Nissan's GT-R, PD is keenly interested in the design of cars. Designing their own cars would be a logical next step.

And this is when I'd stop playing Gran Turismo...

I prefer real licensed cars, but more 1 or 2 "fake" cars would be cool, because I like, for example, the S2000 LM Race Car, the RX-7 and/or RX-8 Race Car...and even...:nervous:...the...:scared:...X20...10:D

I like the fake race cars they made, like the S2000 and the like, the FGT is kinda cool. These cars could exist, and similar cars do exist. They're just make believe "if we wanted to race an S2000, what would it look like cars".

Putting cheap knock-offs with different names in the game would be just that, a cheap knockoff. Terrible.

That's not a bad idea.

PD should just bust a gut to get porsches into the game. Regarding Imitations....never, but making fictional race cars out of cars that have never been raced is ok (as others have said).

I wouldn't really want them to go down that route, but I think if they had trouble getting licenses for certain teams they could do what Forza 3 did and introduce a blank DTM car, a blank NASCAR car, a blank Super GT car etc., for painters to work their magic on.

If that's what it takes to get a Porsche 917 in a game, I'll support it.

If I want imitation cars I'll play Burnout or Grand Theft Auto.

No thanks.

Hmm; It takes them 60 years to develope the ultimate car, but then it gets all jaggy round the edges when the tires are smoking.. :ouch:

👍

You know that was patched, right?

It's already been done in GT3

Heres an old thread i've found with the other GT3 F1's on it. One's a rip off of a JPS Lotus. https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=186627

I would only tolerate "Imitation" race cars.

There could have been a Polyphony Digital manufacturer which has models based off of other cars. They could have each of these cars be named after the year it raced, the league it was in (shortened i.e. RXSC for Rolex Sports Car Series), and it's driver('s) initials.

Hence, they could add a, say, "Polyphony Digital JIDB WSC LM 82'" for the Porsche that won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1982.

I have a better idea.

Make a "Car Builder" tool, like Course Maker. You can decide the style of body, type of suspension, drivetrain, engine, length and width. You put in these parameters and BAM!

..... Out comes a plate of spaghetti.

Super Car Street Challenge comes to mind..

There are plenty of other games that make up their own cars to look slightly like real cars - leave that sort of thing to them, thats not what i want to see in GT or Forza.

I don't mind the made-up race cars based on actual production cars (e.g. S2000 LM Race Car, RX-7 LM Race Car, etc.)

But totally made-up cars are a no-no. The Formula Gran Turismo and Red Bull X2010 are fine for the imagination and the "what if" crowd, as well as its testing/proofing of the physics engine, but adding even more to that would dilute the list of models. This isn't Ridge Racer, and if GT insists on being "The Real Driving Simulator", then they should stick to real cars.

Even being new to the GT series, I would not be for "imitations".

There's already 1,000+ cars in GT5 - most of which I'll probably never drive. Does it really need a plethora of imaginary cars on top of that?

If PD wanted to play "tuning house" and offer wild, radical, even silly interpretations of real-world cars (already in the game or not), that could work. It could be a variant of the existing "race modification" element of the game. That could work, in my opinion.

I really, really, really the idea of a game allowing you to play "car designer". I'm sure PD could make a "spin-off" game with that as the focus, even utilize that from GT5 which works. However, it should be a totally different game.

Imitations in The Real Driving Simulator? Not for me!

Peace...

👍

Why does it always have to be the worst case scenario?

Speaking of which, I'm not particularly interested in ultimate hypercars, I'm more into traditional and reasonable cars with their own special features. You can call me boring if you want.

If room hosts had the option to select a class of car allowed, (for instance if a host had a class restriction setting so he could select 'GT500' only) then fake cars would be ok because they could be kept seperate. A host could open the class restriction setting up to allow any car on track and then I guess it could be fun, but when you have a pack of genuine race models say GT1 type cars on track dont you think a completely fake GT1 would ruin the whole feel of it?. I could just image racing with my friends and having some guy turn up in the 'GT thrust zero' and killing the whole vibe.............................Ok i just thought about it a bit more, no more fake cars for me.

doesn't the game already have "fake" cars?
such as...
Formula Grand Turismo
red bull X2010

Surely there's enough real cars in the history of the planet without making up new ones. I thought the GT series was 'the real driving simulator' not 'the simulator of real driving'!

;)

I actually really hate all the concept cars that are in the game already. If it doesn't exist in drivable form, keep it out of the game please. Racing conversions of real cars to air/weight restricted formulas are more than welcome but stupid pie in the sky fantasies like the X2010 demean the achievements of actual passionate human beings who put actual blood sweat and tears into making actual racing cars that actually work in the real world.

edit: the Formula PD cars are kind of a grey area for me because while they're more powerful they can't hang with the Ferrari F1s on downforce. That said they fill a void that could've just as easily been filled simply by letting us respray the Ferraris, which would've avoided having a bunch of ugly standard models take up a fairly high-profile spot in the game too. Guess there was too much legal wrangling involved with the Scuderia's sponsors?
