Would you like it if PD had some "imitations"?

It's already been done in GT3

That one doesn't look quite right to me.

Heres an old thread i've found with the other GT3 F1's on it. One's a rip off of a JPS Lotus. https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=186627

Those FGT cars were SEX...Reminds me how much I dislike the GT5 one...

For years after I finished GT3, I'd occasionally take the F688/S (loved the sound) to complex string for a couple of hours of zen driving...

I'd like them to actually get the real cars in the game right before they start outright making crap up.

Fake cars? probally the stupidest thead on here. i play a sim for real cars

How about kit cars like the ford GT kit car (I know they already have the Ford GT in the game but it's just an example).

Don't like fake cars.

And this is when I'd stop playing Gran Turismo...

agreed.

This is not Tokyo Xtreme Racer Zero.

All of you are too late. GT is plagued with "fake car". Has been forever, so nothing is really changing.

That.

So somehow, fake cars don't belong in a sim?

?????????????

Fake cars don't belong in a sim that likes to rub everyone's nose in how many cars it has.

I'd think that premium cars are a bigger threat to car count than a few fantasy ones.

I also wouldn't mind giving up the Honda Life Step Van for the F-094/S or whatever it was called.

Considering that simulators are what's used to design fake cars and make them into real cars...I don't follow your logic.

GT is full of fantasy cars and some cars that never made it to the production line, so what? As long as it's not magical stuff that looks like unicorns and rainbows it shouldn't be off limits. All cars were fake at one time or another, little models made from shaved wood and what not. Try not to forget the road take to get to the end result and keep the talk about what GT should and shouldn't have within reason.

Last I checked all the fake cars in GT still had to adhere to the same physics engine as all the real cars, so ideally what's the problem?

I don't mind the game having a few fake cars as long as they are based on real models that are already in the game (Or something completely unique like the X2010 that was designed with a purpose in mind i.e. A race car that is not restricted by regulations).

Not overly keen on the Nike car from GT4 and things like that, it looked like it was made by a graphics designer with no knowledge of cars. I mean, the wheel rims were not attached to the car at the centre, so how did they turn? Pointless exercise that uses technology that doesn't exist, whats next, a PD Hover car?

Not remotely my point.

See my first post and you'll find I already explained it.

And, no offense, but your "well, all cars were fake at one point" justification is pretty much a trainwreck.

Hubless wheels have been around for decades.

I feel that If they made car's like that chances are it will naturally be just a little bit better than the other cars in that class.

Online play would then become 90% PD supercar races. In a way a bit like the GTR or the LFA in 500 - 600 PP races but worse if you get what I mean.
I run the Alfa 8C for sure not the quickest in this class ( max 573 PP ) but its a good challenge.

They probably imagined it would work like these Sbarro concepts.

Although I personally hated that Nike car too, that was clearly a marketing exercise too far.

The fact that you can feed that physics engine wildly improbable figures for things like engine output, downforce, chassis stiffness etcetera. Things like the X2010's lag-free gas turbine engine, basically.

Why are people getting hung over if PD makes more imitation cars next time around?

Let them see if they can expand their talents.

It has a turbo charged V6 bro...not a gas turbine engine.

I think we need to separate imitations (like the GTA cars for example), replicas, concept cars and imaginary cars made specifically for GT.
I doubt PD will ever create new imitations like those F1 car lookalikes in GT3, and replicas of cars they couldn't obtain the license for is probably another route they won't take as it risks further alienating the original manufacturer and thereby obtaining that license in the future (although car manufacturers are opportunists pur sang).
I have absolutely no objection to concept cars, as a videogame is probably the only way to experience them if you're not a car journalist, even though I prefer production cars in general.
As for PD creating imaginary cars, as long as they do so by collaborating with real life designers/companies (X2010, Citroën GT) I don't really have an issue with them although they should (and probably will) limit it to a bare minimum and focus mostly on replicating existing cars instead of creating videogame-only cars.
Instead I'd rather have some sort of 'design your own car' feature based on a few default chassis/bodystyles which you could alter and specify, you know, the user created content Kaz mentioned a while back he was interested in (ModNationRacers video).
Having Adrian Newey design a car for us is all very well, now let us adopt the role of Adrian Newey (the 'light' version) by constructing our own make believe contraptions (before anyone says it'll ruin online, they could be limited like karts/F1).

You're kidding, right?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K4YmVP6i4qw - that is the principle on wich the wheels can turn witout being atached at the centre..

Even if they DID choose to do this, how would they get the physics of the cars?

You do realize that the PD team have to drive the cars and monitor the car's behaviour, right?

Did they drive a X2010, FGT or the electric and racecar versions of the Citroën GT for example?
Or the priceless Jaguar XJ13, the GT-R Proto which can't be driven since it's only a mock up without interior in real life?

The X2010, FGT and Citroen GT cars weren't imitations in the first place, but I get your point.

I wouldn't really want them to go down that route, but I think if they had trouble getting licenses for certain teams they could do what Forza 3 did and introduce a blank DTM car, a blank NASCAR car, a blank Super GT car etc., for painters to work their magic on.

Or like the Lexus IS-F touring concept, where it's blank, yet paintable:tup:

Phil Frank and Saleen would disagree http://www.phil-frank.com/
