Would you like PD to defect from Sony and go multiplat with extra emphasis on PC?

Being a die hard PC gamer, I would love a game such as GT on my PC.
Every little detail about it could be made worlds better than the PS3 can dream of. That being said I think it should be left alone and kept as PS3 only, it is the first game that could drag me away from my PC in the 3.5 years that i have had it.

GT on a PC, Oh God no. Sitting on my couch, big TV and massive surround sound is how I like to do my gaming.

Currently browsing on my lap top, plugged into my 42 inch TV through HDMI, 5.1 system, and sitting far way on a wireless keyboard/mouse setup stolen from my mom's old dell.

It's awesome for both gaming, and porn!!!! :sly:

Im going to say it could go as large as 50 gigs to hardrive. It would still probably have to be on a blu-ray double layer. Forget about buying it if you have a Mac, or are running any 'nix distro. Even using WINE you coudnt do it without having a GD super computer.

My rfactor directory was over 50gb at one point...what of it?

I'm just guessing that the custom race tracks would be insane. And if they were to stop competing with Turn10, I'd like to see a big collaboration. Especially with other devs.

Or do you think PD is better off where they're at?

Please note that this isn't a bash towards PD. Just wondering where you think they'd be best at. You think once devs go multiplat, their freedom gives them a wider range of things to do, or it messes them up and lands them with no direction?

Edit: Damn, the poll didn't work..

So here:

A: Stay as they are?

B: Go with Microsoft(XBox Live can really open a lot of possibilities)?

C: Go with PC?

D: Stand alone and make it for everyone?

E: Make Mario Kart GT for Nintendo :dopey:

Sorry to burst your bubbles or dismantle your hope, but Polyphony will never be able to defect from Sony as they are a Subsidiary ie Sony owns them.
Period!
Originally a development group within Sony Computer Entertainment, the creators of “Gran Turismo ” established Polyphony Digital Inc. in 1998.

With their track record on making an equally perfect 'imperfect game' on all versions, it would take at least 15 years for the next iteration to come out.

I'm torn...

It's too easy, as it is, to lose large chunks of time with GT and a PS3 hooked up to a TV. I just have to make something of an effort to devote enough time to sit down and play.

If GT was on a PC, and assuming I would have a notebook powerful enough to run it, then I could pretty much play any and everywhere. GT via TV through notebook. GT while making toilet. GT while sitting at the airport. GT at Starbucks while I enjoy a Vente Mocha Ripoffsugarcino.

I'd get exactly two things done:

1) Jack
2) [Expletive Deleted]

As much as it pains me, I'm going to have to go ahead and not want this to happen.

I would rather have it on the PC than the PS3. User made custom tracks and cars would be simply amazing. The racing game GTR 2 has almost every track in the world (and about a billion cars) because of all the people making mods for the game. Just think how many more there would be with the larger player base of gran turismo.

Also some people on the first page seem a bit confused......... you can easily hook up a computer to any TV. Mine is hooked up to my 47inch right now and I can play any video game on it (usually in higher settings) than my PS3.

It will never happen though. Sony banks on the gran turismo series to sell there console.

Not ever in my lifetime, after it sure thing. Being on PS made GT what it is, it would have been stretched to all sorts of areas and lost itself, see the GT PSP fiasco. PC gamers have their great Sim games, could you imagine Kaz trying to get Sony to fund GT for the PC.

Kaz Hirai would laugh his behind off if Kazunori sauntered into his office asking for funding for a PC version of GT Series. With the amount of money you spend on GT for one system, you think we are made of money? Try Microsoft, they have money to buy the earth.

GT on the PC?

Well yes and no.

Yes, because if they allowed user created content like Rfactor and GTR the game would just explode with possibilities. In proper racing games on the PC you can race just about any car on just about any track because a lot of very talented hobbyists have created mods to allow you to do so.

But my final answer has to be no because it wouldn't be a proper PC developed game, it'd just be a port like all of the EA titles.

The good old days when major games companies took the time to create proper games for the PC are long gone. All they do now is port them across and make some minor tweaks if you're lucky. NFS: Hot Pursuit is a very good example. A great idea but crap to play because they've made the assumption that everyone who will be playing it will either be 13 year old kids who wouldn't know what it was like to actually drive a real car fast or drunks coming back from the pub. I was bought a copy for Christmas and played it for about 3 hours before I put the disc back on the shelf and loaded GT up again.

I just wish GT had come out on the PC in the first place rather than being limited by 5 year old hardware.

Hadn't PD been hard-capped by Playstation hardware limitations we'd need the NASA mainframe to run Gran Turismo properly by now.

So yeah, no.

Hardly, the game is only 14-15 GB's in size and most parts of PS3 games do not use compression. Delete all the movies (HD video is rather large) and it'd probably fit on 1 DVD-DL.

The first video game was made on an analog computer. Regardless, I'm pretty sure arcades could be considered the grandfather of gaming as we see it today.

I was just joking the Xbox is my fav system but I love the GT series, GT5 has let me down though

I think that PD defection is something that is unlikely to happen, the main reason being that like myself many folks/fans of GT have only purchased the PS for the use of GT. If GT goes multi-platform there will be many people, including myself that will not bother with the next PS and just buy it on PC and Sony will lose out in the long run.

Firstly, they're owned by Sony, apart from SOE, Sony games don't go to PC anyway.

Secondly, first party is the only way they could stay open, third party publishers wouldn't tolerate it or as independent developers they'd go out of business within a few years.

Thirdly, even if Kaz and the PD team went to form a new studio, Sony still have the studio, the engines, the infrastructure and, most importantly, the GT name, one of the things that allows Kaz to do what he wants.

I also think Sony should really being going to PD for the PS4 and saying "what do you need to make photomode into gameplay?"

Exactly, Sony and PD are joined at the hip, it's never going anywhere. Photomode is nice but then we're gonna be stuck with premium tracks and standard tracks with premium cars and standard cars because they are never going to get around to replicating that kind of detail in a timely manner. I'd really be more impressed if they could pull external data from a geological mapping source and produce generic landscapes out of real localities around me.

No. PC gaming is corrupted by hackers. Plus why would I want to pay for something I can have for free?
yet the ps3 and 360 are both hacked as well. the whole "pc is full of hackers" statement is annoying to read because consoles have many cheaters as well, just look at call of duty.

anyway, i'd love to see GT on the PC. though i doubt it ever will happen, it would be much better on the pc platform than ps3.

Ok, in my opinion if it went to the 360, the graphics wont be as smooth, or should I say less smooth, and would not open opportunities, plus juggling 7 discs is somewhat difficult. and I like the track generator, I dont have time to create a track from scratch. If they had both features then go for it. The graphics wouldn't be better on PC, but they would be smoother, cause the memory in PC is virtually infinite now, so no more pixelation around the car when smoke is behind it, and smoke in rear view mirrors. But I rather it stay on console at least, I go for console over PC, cause its much simpler, and its insert disc them play, not put in disc, enter code, code fails, call customer service, its too late there closed wait tell tomorrow. Plus all the mods and hack would ruin it for me. But once I get 2 grand for a PC, ill stick to roller coaster tycoon (best PC game), and PC exclusives that I like. This is my opinion so be gentle.:nervous:

There maybe more cars and tracks, but there not realistic like PD makes it, maybe the tracks maybe close, but not the cars, nice argument though.

Even tho i didn't liked GT5 that much, but GT on PC... no thanks.
What's good about consoles? It's not even 50'+ screens and 7.1 sound, that everyone can use for PC gaming as well. It's the fast, that they (consoles) all has the same hardware.
Anyone remember Crysis when it were just released? Less than 3 - 5% gamers could actually enjoy it on full setting with high resolution, because that damn game lagged even on 2k$+ worth PCs.
I'm playing to a few PC games every now and then and have ok PC (not ultra high end tho ), but i can run almost every new game on high settings, but some games just not optimised to run good on every system.
Take StarCraft 2 for example, a game from a very well known and respected PC developer Blizzard, who were known for their quality games for a long long time.
To make it run on extreme (or ultra ) settings you must have a monster PC, preferably overclocked and even then, some ATI GPUs users still has some weird problems, such as random fps drops, dissapearing pointer and so on. And all that while SC2 itself... i still love it, but it's not looking very good at all, especialy if compare it with other new games.
Honestly, i prefer to get a game, insert disk to console and play to it. And it will looks and runs how it's supposed to be, not like my hardware/soft allows it.

Multiplatform usually not the best choice either. There's are good examples of failed ports from X360 to PS3 and vice versa, which runs slow, looks worse etc. And of course even more awful ports from consoles to PC (DMC and RE series for example ).

So i'd prefer if PD just checked what GT fans really want and made a proper GT6 (on PS3 or PS4, doesn't matter).

Plus in 5 to 10 years consoles will be just as powerful if not more then pc's. Maybe

When consoles are updated, they are about as powerful as a decent gaming rig. Thing is that the current gen of consoles has been there since a while, during that time computer got better and better, like usual.

I don't see any problem at all if this game went crossplatform with the PC (FF11 is still doing it, DCU just started, and FF14 is projected to do it). It would be more accessible for some people who already own a great gaming rig and don't want to dish out any extra for a PS3 just to play GT5 (and downgrade from the graphics and sound a well built PC can easily dish out in comparison to the PS3).

To the users worried about hacking, I'm sure they could program and install some form of security on their gaming servers. Besides, as mentioned from others, the game could be improved upon from the molding community (additional tracks, cars, liveries, etc.).

To those worried about "the big screen and sound", PC outperforms in both areas. Better sound cards/drivers paired with a good audio system means crisper sounds delivered to your ears. You could also get 7.2 (? correct me if I'm wrong) headphones for your surround sound needs. And if you're worried about the visuals not being on a HDTV, just plug your PC into the larger screen.

And also, I believe SOE and PD have the potential to do team up to make a crossplatform game... I just don't see it happening so that the GT series can boost PS3 sales.

I'd like PD to just shutdown shop and for Kaz to write a book or something. That way gamers wouldn't have to deal with his half-baked visions. :ouch:

Cross platform games are a whole raft of compromises.

PC games are why I quit playing PC games, save for two or three titles. Plus, to keep up with new games, you have to upgrade your PC every few years.

Meanwhile with consoles, the developers do the upgrading within the games to make consoles look better every year. For free.

Plus, I got over my hate for SONY with the PS2. Now, most of the good games are on the Playstation. Good XBox games end up on PC after a year or so, or are released at the same time. And honestly, I don't think they're that good. So, the only game library that I've been adding to over the past few years has been my Playstation collection. With an occasional Dreamcast and Saturn game thrown in. ;)

Like a lot less people playing it online since Micro$oft charge an arm and a leg for Live Gold? Especially for working class people like myself.
PlayStation Network is bloody epic in the fact it is completely free to play online - been playing a lot of GTA IV online lately with workmates and have played GT5 online a couple times.

If it went to PC i'd never be able to play it again, as i can't even afford to upgrade my computer to play SimCity 4 (or barely even SimCity 3000 Unlimited without crashing after a couple hours!).

But yeah, they need to stick with Sony and the PlayStation.
