I chose turbocharger because superchargers actually are not as efficient, they use the crankshaft to power it, thus there is a power loss (around 15-30 %). But with turbos, there is none of that. And you can not only boost power, you can also improve fuel economy with them as well. So you can have a smaller, more fuel efficient engine, but still make power.
The major drawback is of course lag. It can be combated in many ways, like using anti-lag systems and using lighter parts to lower rotational inertia.
