Wouldn't GT5 Stunts (Gymkhana) be cool?

With the excellent GT5 physics engine it would be cool if there were stunt challenges like Ken Block doing gymkhana. I'm sure most people have seen this video...

No. Ken Block is an embarrassment to the world of Motorsports. It has been long since proven that his videos are composites of multi-take clips. If he had half of the "skill" that is supposedly displayed in his stunt driving, he wouldn't have done as pathetically as he did in his WRC outings.

I wonder how man takes (and dead old guys) it took around 3.20...
I don't give a F... if they are multi take clips. Movies use more then one take....

As for the OP's question, i have designed a Gymkhana track in GT5...

Skip to 1.30 for the fun stuff ;)

I think a "Ken Block Gymkhana challenge would be brilliant. Forza 4 has however confirmed Gymkhana & being an american game and driver i think we will see your idea in spring this year ;)

Oh and FYI i am working on a multi-take video with my impreza and various tracks. Should be pretty sweet :)

One take:

Some of his skills in ONE take.
Lets ignore the fact that he lost, haha. I'm just showing you that he CAN drive and that he does have skill. Unless you can do better than him, please don't say or imply that he does not have any skill when it comes to motorsports. Also, his gymkhana videos are cool, you know you like them :)

As for the WRC outings, no one is perfect.

I would love a gymkhana like track in gt5 just for the fun of drifting... All you need is a big parking lot with some cones and stuff

This one was taken by Kimi raikkonen king of the I can't be bothered/interested in what i am driving. The only time I saw him smile in f1 was eating an ice cream.

Yeah, some area like a park area or an industrial zone would be cool to make drift stunts.

The physics in GT5 are amazing for drifting.

It would be nice to have it in GT6, but i dont think the average player has the skills, so PD wont put it in. It would be nice to have a few drifting competitions in a-spec, not just in practice and online.

Look at the seasonal event drifting rankings. There are a lot of people doing nothing else.

It isn´t as hard as it looks (in the game)

I'm not sold on it being easy, but with practise I'm sure it would come. If you look at the Dirt 3 trailer and I'm sure this will be the same in game, the physics look too arcade like. This is most likely done to incorporate everyone from all abilities. I would love to see a free course creator/ Gymkhana editor, I just hope they don't turn it into some arcade fest.

well honestly, while the idea of a gymkhana mode is fun, its kinda pointless in gt5. hey, i love ken block, and in a few years i believe he may be able to be competitive in the wrc, but its agreed when others say hes overrated. =/ a gymkhana mode in a racing simulator is pointless, and i agree when others say dirt 3 is the preferred route for all ur 600hp AWD ford fiesta drifting needs.

but who knows? maybe were wrong, and itd be a fun popular idea. i just dont see it happening.

Gymkhana doesn't start and end with Ken Block... :odd:

And GT5 is "The Real Driving Simulator"... Gymkhana is driving.
We were promised something like this before release, anyway.

By the bye, that Caterham video is incredible. But, "Christopher Evans" ? :p

I'm no fan of Ken Block but to say his WRC was pathetic is a bit much. I'm sure i saw him in the top ten a few times and he even set some really quick stage times. This is his first time in the WRC against the best drivers in the world. I for one was expecting him to do far worse.

i saw this guy in real life in the build up to SEMA 2010 in vegas. he is exactly as good in real life as he is in these videos. dont believe a second of the nonsense from the haters saying hes crap.

Hah I was just watching Kyle Mohan drive that layout recently, Ken Block Invitational, right?

I'd definitely be down with seeing a Gymkhana element. Interesting to hear that it's going to be featured in Dirt 3 and FM4...If they improve their physics in Dirt that mode (provided it's not just some lazily tacked on gimmick) could sell me the game. I don't need it to be perfect sim physics or anything, I'm down with arcadey games, I just really hated the physics in Dirt 2...not fun at all.

As for FM4...well we'll see. The physics didn't feel quite right to me in 3 when breaking traction and they're pushing another game out the door in less than a year. It doesn't seem like enough time to fix physics related issues adequately. Furthermore I don't have a 360 wheel and don't plan to invest in a Fanatec on top of the G27 I'd like to upgrade to from my DFGT.

But yeah. Ken Block...overrated? Maybe, probably. Awesome videos regardless of how many takes they were shot in? Yes. Watching a Ken Block vid is like watching a skate vid. He has legit gymkhana skills, but I think his videos tend to go a bit beyond standard gymkhana :P

I'm pretty sure we can all agree that it would be fun. Just give us back the old gymkhana track and let us edit cone positions and I'm good :)

Hey everyone Try the top gear track.

I use the WRC Ford in arcade drift.

confort soft front
confort med rear

Its alot of fun sliding around the cones and tires.

I found a 40-60 front rear works best:)

They're gonna need to start making wheels with handbrakes to take advantage of this, there's no valid way to do this with a G27 for example, short of remapping the clutch pedal to the handbrake, though that is far from a realistic experience.

Would be nice to see it in a GT game, though i don't think the physics model is quite ready for it, enough to pull it off. Dirt 3 are doing it by following the route of a more arcade/casual friendly physics model, but doing it in a simulation and getting the physics model to not have a heart attack is hard.

You're right about full integration, but there are some pretty good DIY methods. I saw some guy who got a joystick and his DS3, wrapped an elastic band round the joystick and the analog stick to use it as a handbrake. I think this was GT5 or maybe I accidently saw the thrustmaster shifter handbrake package ;).

I have an idea, what about autotesting? It's a real motorsport and could be really fun and interesting.
