another reason i find the dfp so good is because before i couldn't drive with manual gears but with the wheel i can :)

i have also gone the lazy option with a cockpit and have ordered a gamepod gt2 ready for GT4 :sly:

Max Table Thickness 1-1/8"
read again, his table is thicker than the max bite of the DFP clamp, hence needing a thinner (new) table.
 
Has anybody noticed the following problem with the DFP wheel?

When playing a game with only uses 200 degree`s feedback i.e. GT3 Concept, ejecting the CD and then running GT4 Prologue without actually switching off the steering wheel it doesnt reset correctly.

Ive reset the console and switch off/on the wheel also and the feedback is alot better, the force feedback is the same as before but the tension is alot stronger in the wheel.

You kids and your steering wheels, in my day, all we 'ad wus a wiggly joystick (that wiggled some times) and 2 buttons. Ah but we were happy, oh yes....those were the days. aye.

pfff. In my day, we used dinner plates as steering wheels. They didnt do anything to the game being played, but we used our IMAGINATIONS.
 
Plates? You were lucky, all we 'ad wus a small stone, that I span and pretended wus a car. Aye, but we wus 'appy. We dint need none of your fangled ray stations, and ya tele-wotsits.

On the Spectrum 48k there was a racing game (can't remember the name) where you could put a biscuit tin lid on the keypad and use it as a steering wheel.
 
I got my wheel 2 days ago, then i went to a scrapyard dealer yesterday, bought a spotless passenger seat from a ford escort, then welded that to a bit of steel box section, with a piece jutting out in front, followed by a vertical piece of tubing, with a T piece for the wheel to clamp to, and then i set the pedals into a removable piece of box section at exactly the right angle for comfortable hours of GT, result:
i can now recline my seat, move it forwards and backwards for the longer legged racer, and i can enjoy all the games i own without the damn thing sliding around on my lap like it would.
In my opinion this is the only way to have a wheel, to have it attached to a gamepod or RACESTATION or diy driving seat. My friends all think im mad cos im nearly 30, but i know theyre just jealous.
I have managed to make my ideal GT4 partner for the cost of a few bits of steel, (free to me) and a secondhand seat (£15 sterling) and the fun hasnt stopped yet.
The feeling is awesome, i too am adjusting to the fact that i cant perform as well as i could with a pad for the time being, but the immersion is spot on.
I love it, and i cant wait to try every last car on GT4.
By the way, the wheel is supposed to give 900 degrees on cars that that relates to, but you will find GT cars that have only a small turning circle require much less steering input to get round a hairpin, but still retain full 2 and a half turns to full lock as a car should. Its supposed to be hard, its a driving sim, not an arcade blast, no guns or attachable rockets here.
I love my new wheel, if anyone is thinking of getting the DFP then stop thinking and order.

Sounds great, any chance of a diagram/photo so we can plagiarise?
 
sorry to double post, but i wanted to add that i did have one small problem with the usb port on the ps2 the first time i plugged in (never been used before! probably dust!) and the wheel didnt align itself properly. the game loaded, i started to play, but the wheel was hanging slightly left of centre. to solve this, i reset the ps2, and the wheel re-aligned.
I still love my new toy to death though.
Buy one.
No pics of my seat design as yet, but maybe in the future..
