Toyota Celica Turbo 4WD - '92
Volkswagen Polo R WRC

Couple points. As far as I can tell the only (announced) new cars are the Mini Countryman S2000, Proton Satria S2000, and VW Polo R WRC. However I don't remember the Renault Twingo in WRC 1? Also i'll be interested in how the old S1600 cars are integrated, there's a fair old load of them. And also its nice to see the old WRC cars, the 300hp Focus / C4 / Impreza combo back.

Overall seems the license is being used pretty well I reckon, looks good.

For those who didn't notice.

Also sneak peek hands on article.

So, no more seasons then, presumably just classes and countries to run them on? That actually might be a relief from running a lot of the same tracks each and every time - yes, I'm looking at France and Germany.

This looks even more positive by the week.

From what Iv read so far...
Improved graphics engine
Improved driving physics
Rain and snow weather effects (not dynamic)
New side events like gatecrasher and demolition derby events
More details and images of all drivers in the game
New boss races introduced to the career? Race the top driver of the land
Possibly reduced finer details off driving setup and garage (Sponsorship, Mechanics etc)
I also think they hinted at re-recorded sounds for cars and co-drivers.

New video -

Graphics are a huge improvement! Glad they finally changed the cockpits aswell. What's with the GPS track map at 4:54?
Disappointed that Great Orme is still in a forest instead of on that narrow coastal road on the side of a cliff. Didn't see any changes to Finland either.
Everything looks improved apart from the handling, which I really enjoyed in WRC2. Hopefully it was just a bad driver but rear grip looks about non existent.
Armindo Araujo at the end playing as himself.

i can translate all the review video cause i'm italian, about the grip he actually says that asphalt and snow are amazing while there is too much grip on gravel. However the physic has improved. He's playing with a g27 with automatic gear box and driving aids, damages and other elements are just from wrc2 in this demo. a lot will be changed.

Suspension looks... weird... the amount of body roll...

oh my god, they STILL have those crappy car sounds(annoyingly bad), only thing I see as a valid improvement is the look, other than that I bet you it'll be the same crap as the first 2.

I haven't played either of the first two and it sounds like I'm not missing much, but how do they stack up to Colin McRae Rally 04, 2005 and DIRT? I had some fun with those. I'm hoping this will be decent but remain unconvinced from that video; why not show the cockpit view?

With all due respect, the sounds are vastly improved from WRC 2 and sound much closer to the real cars now:

Not perfect by any stretch but certainly improved. I also enjoyed WRC 2, so if it has improved sounds and graphics, plus what looks like improved physics, then I am getting this for sure.

You will find split opinions, its generally the sim crowd who expect nothing less than RBR who will slate the WRC games the hardest.
In comparison to the games you have listed there, it compares favorably to them all. WRC 2 has better physics than CMR 04 and 2005 and consists entirely of actual rallying unlike Dirt. Yes graphically WRC 2 could be better but its not awful by any means and has a good enough selection of cars to keep it entertaining for a while (90s WRC, Group B, JWRC, PWRC, S2000 and WRC). The prices you can pick it up for make it worth you picking it up and trying it for yourself.

Great, thanks very much. I wasn't sure if it was just a terrible game or a terrible sim compared to RBR, and let's face it, pretty much everything is so it's hardly fair or wise to slate every rally game just because it can't live up to that. I think I will pick it up at some point, in fact I think I'll trawl the usual digital distribution suspects now seeing as Steam doesn't appear to have it.

Just to let you know, I couldn't see the video either and I think it's because you included the '=' sign and the stuff after it in the tags. I may be wrong though.

I got mine in CEX on PC for £5 so if you have one near you might be worth checking out.

Yes, I am really liking the look of this now, looks so much better with a wheel, WRC2 was awful with a wheel, this looks excellent. Improved graphics and co-driver as well which is nice.

This looks really good this time and it also looks like it is tricky to drive and not like dirt. Still sounds rubbish though but im getting this one on PC so hopefully some good mods.

I think the sounds are fine, bearing in mind we haven't heard the final sounds yet. It is a marked improvement already on the WRC 2 sounds.

One thing the WRC games have had over others for me is the length of stages, i'm watching the first of those 4 videos now. Good to know they're not just 50 second sprints.

Some good, extensive remodelling has happened on cars, sounds and tracks. Like Alan says, the game he played yesterday is still in development, so not the final version and it's already looking great.

If this new engine can get them this far, I'm really looking forward to the final version in October - yes C6.R you are correct, the 12th it is.

Thanks for confirming Meanelf.

I'm very much looking forward to this.
DIRT3 isn't a bad game but always when I'm rallying I feel like driving a rally sprint race.
Love the lengthy stages in the WRC series and the teambuilding

Looks very good to me, much better than the first two which I never went beyond the demos of. Really likely to pick this up though.

Few new pics. There's been more previews released but nothing much new revealed.
Germany, Greece Acropolis are countries that have missed out on renovations (no mention of Finland so fingers crossed).

I used to religiously buy the old annual WRC games on PS2 with those stages that seemed to go on and on for ever, while my mate religiously bought the old Colin McRae annual games. We would spend hours arguing over which was best. I won in the end of course when he finally tried out WRC :sly:

I haven't bought the first two new games as the reviews really made me hold back so I really am hoping this time they have that killer WRC game that I remember and love. If they get it right I will be more than happy to part with my wonga every year for this, since I too long for stages that last more than 1 minute...

WRC 2 was a perfectly adequate game, probably on par with WRC4 on the PS2 in my opinion. (WRC3 was the best as far as I am concerned)

Indeed, I always found that the Group B cars were a lot wilder than on Dirt, even if they were without authentic liveries...

so far so good, really looking to it. i love rally and finally seems we're ognna deal with it.

Looks like guys instead taking a lot of money for crap game, just focused on making good game with smaller budged. I like it already.

The first two WRC titles by milestone games I also avoided after trying the demos and disliking them, along with the reviews. WRC 3 looks much better but I am still concerned with the physics and how it interacts with the wheel from what I have see in videos. I will give the demo a whirl again whenever it is available and if it is good enough I will buy it. I don't expect crazy accurate physics but it should feel like a connected rally car and not some left stab, right stab stearing inputs to take corners.

I used to buy the Colin McRae games also until codies turned it into circus and I went Richard Burns Rally.

Might be getting this if it got positive reviews, I passed on Dirt 3 so it's time for some rally love
