Quoting myself but I've found more pictures from around the interwebs

Also R5 looks like a good replacement for S2000, Peugeot have a 208 built, M-Sport will have a Fiesta running by the end of the year and Citroen and Skoda are also said to be interested.

So, is the i20 competing in 2013? Or are they holding off until 2014?

I can't see them being ready for 2013 since the car is just a shell at the moment, I suppose they could copy VW and debut it at the end of 2013 whilst putting miles on the car all through the year. It could even be 2015 since nothing has been announced yet.

This is great news for the sport and fans, it seems many of the manufacturers are edging back into the sport. Maybe they all smell Sebastien Loeb easing his way out.

Also hasn't Subaru been working on some early return work like 1.6L engine development?

Yep I just saw that a few moments ago, what timing.

However I am kind of sad to see Seb wont (likely) be in the running for his 10th championship title.

As much as I hate dominance I do like equal numbers.

9 times world champion doesn't sound as awesome as 10 times world champion.

I agree. I think he'll want to end it on a high, though.

It should be an interesting battle for the top spot next season, especially between JML and Hirvonen.

EDIT: Hyundai have released a promo video for the i20.

Do you think Rhys will be top guy with Hyundai? He has the most background with them in all forms and his rallycross cars seem to be pretty stout overall.

I'm wondering why they ever tested in say a Rally America event or something smaller using a system like Ken's team has for switching between events?

I can't see Rhys being there, I don't know much about him but he seems to be more of a Block than a Loeb, Hyundai will sign professional rally drivers like Juho Hanninen to get the car running well, as for the car I reckon it will all be done by Hyundai themselves to avoid the disaster which was the Accent.

You do have a point to a degree BUT the only thing is all the time he has put into getting the rallycross car on the map, then pikes peak cars, and drifting. I guess I would consider him closer to Tanner Foust in that aspect. He did grow up in a rally background though.

I don't know whether this is the correct thread.. but has anybody seen the new Peugeot 208 R5 rally car? I think it looks awesome!, love how the livery harks back to the old 205 T16 rally cars.

GOTMAXPOWER did briefly mention the 208, but thank you for providing a link too! :D

French TV is showing every stage live, the superspecial has just finished with Neuville quickest, http://www.sport-team.org/ streamed it, hopefully they do the same when the rally-proper starts tomorrow morning.

If I'm not mistaken, this is the first time Neuville has lead a rally? Good to see he's performing well in his closest-to-home-but-not-quite-because-he's-from-Belgium rally.

Top 5 after SS1:
1. Neuville 2:44.7
2. Jari-Matti +0.8
3. Sordo +1.3
4. Petter +1.3
5. Hirvonen +1.3

Loeb currently sits in 6th after having trouble with his pace notes. Nasser Al-Attiyah suffered a spin in the second corner and lost 20 seconds in his DS3, and Martin Prokop said his Fiesta was misfiring. Chris Atkinson reported that he had a moment when he locked up the brakes of his MINI. Yvan Muller suggested a power issue, while Romain Dumas said he was experiencing understeer.

Craig Breen set the pace for the SWRC, too. I'm glad he's doing so well after the loss of Gareth earlier in the year. It was a very emotional win for him in Wales and nearly had me in tears too!

Petter has gone off into a orchard on the first stage of the day, hit at least 20 small trees and a pole which narrowly missed a group of spectators :O

I used to love watching WRC, does seem its lost a lot of its exposure as tbh, I couldn't tell you what channel it's on in the UK.

Hoping if this RedBull thing is true it will hopefully make its way back onto mainstream TV, I think more works teams will definitely help with this.

I'd be very interested to hear the worldwide TV viewing figures for WRC compared to say WTCC (or even BTCC!).
In the UK at least, obviously BTCC is going to be a mile ahead being on freeview. But WTCC is also pretty invisible stuck on Eurosport.

Ford and mini stop wrc ...
Citroen has a contract for 3 years but they need a wtcc car and no news about Toyota and the yaris wrc.
Only 2 new constructors are working on a car.

The beginning of the end for the wrc ? :nervous:
