We more or less had this already in Gran Turismo PSP since the license tests or bette called challenges were the only thing close to a career mode in the game apart from single races.

Looks like they're trying to expand on the racing scene that GTA Online created. If they can drastically reduce the waiting time between races (reasons why I stopped racing in GTA and Wreckfest) it could be interesting.

THQ also publish Wreckfest right?

I wonder if it has Wreckfest physics. That would be awesome. The name seems to draw allusions to Wreckfest. I'll keep my fingers crossed that there's some common DNA in the engine.
I thought this was a direct sequel to Wreckfest when I first read the title, gutted when I found out it wasn't.

Wreckfest has by far the most enjoyable physics in my opinion.

TBH I completely forgot about this game. I was very interested when I first heard about but now it's kinda meh. Maybe when it gets closer to release I will get more excited about it

I don't know the game or the physics, but this circuit maker reminds me the Dirt5... a little bull...****.

If it has a mix of Wreckfest and Burnout with open world and editing in it then I will be happy. For now that actually seems to be the case. An underrated aspect of sandbox games to me is editing in the open world. Hopefully there are traffic or maybe even other ai cars (like drivatars or whatever) to mess with and cause massive crashes. Seeing Wreckfest style damage via GTA5 style editor would be awesome.

On the fence. Still hanging out for a direct Wreckfest sequel but the online aspect of this seems like it could be really good though, with the amount of track customization. We'll see.

I wouldn't suggest looking for Wreckfest here as it's unrelated. This game started out as Dangerous Driving 2, the sequel to the tiny (team of seven) Criterion-breakaway's previous Burnout-like game. Wreckreation is set to be more of a "Burnout Paradise meets TrackMania", no realistic banger racing here, this'll likely play similarly to Forza Horizon 5 Hot Wheels, but with more high-speed shallow-angle drifting, boosting and Takedowns.*

*EA may claim ownership of the word 'Takedown' in a car-tackle context, so maybe something else.

I’m not sure there’ll be a Wreckfest 2. That was so perfect for what it was it’s hard to see how they could top it other than doing something like this - taking the game open world or something. So I reckon this is essentially going to be it. I prefer “sequels” like this, something drastically different and fresh but pushing all the same buttons for the same fans. If this is anything as great as Wreckfest I can’t wait.

Looks like a mix of GTA V, Hot Wheels, and Table Top Racing. I'll have to wait for a low price before I buy it.

This is the discussion thread for an article on GTPlanet:

It’s pretty likely that you’d forgotten that Wreckreation was in development, given that the last peep from THQ Nordic about the sandbox smash-’em-up was back in August 2023, but not only is it still on the slate it might be with us soon...

You're a little behind here EDIT: Scratch that.. Just noticed this post was from 2023

I can't remember if Wreckreation was the game I saw announced awhile ago and thought it looked cool; Like the Bugbear people were making a side game to Wreckfest that focused on their sandbox area stuff and activities.

If Wreckreation was that game, it doesn't look interesting to me anymore. This just kinda looks like a Burnout game or something. Not a fan of the crazy FOV blur vision type stuff that many of these newer arcade racing games do to try and make it look faster than it is.

I’m still wary of the handling model, but very relieved to see this project didn’t die. Hopefully there’s some depths to the driving dynamics with all the physics objects, but from the trailers it’s looked very basic.

Interested to try it out regardless.

Had hopes for it but doesn't look promising how the car behaves and graphics seem to be more on the mobile game side (which isn't really important for me as long as it's fun to play but "the internet").

Ahh I just looked them up. Never heard of Three Fields before but I do recall seeing Dangerous Golf and stuff. This definitely looks like their previous games.

I don't know what I could've possibly been thinking of before then. Guess I'm just crazy. Swear it looked like BeamNG or Wreckfest, specifically "Next Car Game" when they called it that. That sort've early demo thing. And I thought oh cool, they're branching off of Wreckfest to make like an arcade/multiplayer/party game based on that original demo.

It's more than just their previous games as Three Fields Entertainment. The three founders of the studio are:
  • Alex Ward (former Criterion Games): creative director on Burnout 3: Takedown, Burnout Revenge and Burnout Paradise.
  • Fiona Sperry (former Head of Criterion Games for all the above mentioned titles).
  • Paul Cross (former Criterion Games): lead programmer on Burnout 3: Takedown, lead designer on Burnout Revenge, and technical director on Burnout Paradise.
And, apparently, several other former Criterion developers have joined the studio since their beginning.

Wreckreation is Burnout, but with a different name because they can't call it that.

@warp9engage Yea, I recall hearing that the devs were former Burnout people back when they made those first couple games. But when I watched those early games being played, they seemed pretty bad. As in, not up to the quality of the Burnout games. Though that was a long time ago and looks like they've released more stuff, hopefully getting better.

It looks like Burnout but still kinda bad/cheap, IMO. Enough negativity from me; hopefully the people who want a new Burnout game enjoy it.

Could it be you're thinking of Wreckfest 2?

@Famine Nah, I was just mistaken. It was Wreckreation in this initial announcement trailer from 2 years ago. I still think it looks good/interesting in this trailer. The tone and speed etc. I hadn't heard or seen of it in so long that, in my memory, I was thinking it was from the Bugbear people. Plus the 'Wreck' in the name.

Rewatched the new trailer and, for whatever reason, its that boosting FOV blur effect they're doing that looks particularly bad to me.
