Which version of Grand Theft Auto IV will you be buying?

Hmm, so far more PS3 players than Xbox. Doesn't really surprise me because this is a Gran Turismo forum so there'll be a lot of PS3 players here.

Are there any dual 360/PS3 owners here? Are you buying one version over the other because the PS3 has superior graphics or maybe the XBox because it's got a more popular online service? Or are there other reasons for your purchase?

I don't own both but I imagine Xbox360 would be likely because of the content on the way in the future.

I'd like for somebody to show these "superior graphics" that the PS3 version has.

It was me who mentioned the "superior graphics". I've no reason to think the PS3 has better graphics, I was just throwing out potential reasons why someone with both consoles might go for one version over the other.

I don't want to start a war or anything but it was mentioned by Rockstar that the 360 version maybe slightly optimized leading to slightly lower quality due to the lack of Blu Ray and more importantly the lack of a guaranteed hard drive (some 360's don't have them).

The Xbox 360's lack of a guaranteed hard disk is creating limitations in Grand Theft Auto IV's development, Rockstar has acknowledged.

During an interview with our partners in crime at Official PlayStation Magazine, Rockstar's creative vice president Dan Houser was asked: "On PS3 you've got a guarantee that every machine is going to have a hard-drive and, with Blu-ray, you've got plenty of storage, whereas on Xbox 360 there's no guarantee of a hard-drive and you're working with the DVD format. Does that create limitations?" To which he replied, "Yep."

LMAO this is a GT forum a franchise to Sony PS exclusive and its still full of xbox fanbois.

so the poll its going to win the x360 version, even though theres zero reason to buy it for that system, ign already confirmed the graphics are better on PS3, Blu-ray version will have shorter load times, and best of all PS3 controler is the best, the x360 is very unconfortable.

Ok I'll just go and buy a PS3 copy for my XBOX, as there is NO REASON at all for me to get an xbox copy:dunce:

I only care if have to actually omit features or compromise gameplay on the 360 version. I don't care about lower quality textures, less polygons or compressed sound or even some longer load times, because it's obviously going to look good even if the PS3 looks better and it will obviously be head and shoulders above the PS2 GTA games I've been used to. I'm mainly interested in how it plays. The audio, acting, radio stations, jokes, satire etc. is going to be same on each version, so unless the Xbox version looks really crap, and from what I've seen, it doesn't - then it's not much of an issue.

Going to have to pick it up for the 360, considering I'm not going to have a PS3 until Christmas at the latest.

Quote from IGN US review
For those wanting to know which version looks better, the edge goes to the PS3. The textures and framerate are comparable, but the PS3 has far less pop-in. The 360 has richer colors, but the PS3 has better anti-aliasing making it look a little cleaner. Because GTA IV can preload onto the PS3 hard drive, the in-game loads are faster. Don't worry Xbox owners, the load times are rarely more than 30 seconds and don't occur very often. The slight visual edge goes to PS3, but the 360 is no slouch. Either version will do you proud.

Swings and roundabouts really but they reviewed both versions back to back so they would have a good idea of the diferances, there is more detail on the "issues" but I don't think we need to go into it here, I'm getting the PS3 version, did own both systems until recently and if I still had my 360 I wouldn't get it on that format....personal preferance nothing more.

Um, I don't have a PS3 so I reckon I'll probably buy it for my 360. Is that a good enough reason?

What! hey thats no reason at all! theres a comodore 64 version and a spectrum version to chose from as well! people often forget this and although the graphics are "slightly" lower quality that the 2 "big" systems they are equaly enjoyable! :sly:

Yeah and with Rockstars great data compression techniques they managed to get it all on the 5 inch floppy disk. :)

Your just posh getting it on floppy, I'm getting the casset version!

Just a quick one which may change a few peoples minds as to the version they get! this is a quote from and article this morning in CVG

Here's a piece of info that might bugger up your Monday morning; Grand Theft Auto IV, as in that game that's going to be in the shops tomorrow, is totally region locked on Xbox 360.

Advertisement:

That means owners of a North American Xbox 360 (that's us) won't be able to stroll into the shops and buy a PAL copy (and vice-versa) - because it won't work. Bugger.

The PS3 version, like all games, apparently works fine in all countries - though we're waiting for confirmation on that.

Although it's left up to developers whether or not it region locks its games on 360, the vast majority of titles are left open to the world.

Even Rockstar's Table Tennis lacks Region barriers, but seemingly the company has had a change of heart with GTA IV (let's face it, if some US shop started selling it early - we'd all be importing if it was region free).

11th hour bomb shell!!!!
:nervous::nervous::nervous:

Panic over I think I misinterprated reigon locked with internet reigon locked....I hope!

The purpose of the GTAIV region lock is that it has been taken back a notch to get an approved rating in Australia. And I have already seen an article that said the blowback was already coming as many Australian preorders were placed on import sites.

Here's hoping those were all PS3 and not 360 preorders.

I guess your getting the PS3 version?

On to the poll, I have both consoles for those interested but will be buying it for the PS3 only. In fact, unless it's a 360 Exclusive, I'll be getting all my games for the PS3.

Got it for 360 last week. ;)

Cant play it cos im at uni, but when I do get round to playing it, if its as good as the hype then I'll go buy it for PS3!

360, because that's what I own, and what all my friends own as well.

I'm sure either version will do you well.

I traded in a bunch of games today so I figured I'd just get GTA4. They were all sold out of the 360 version so I just got the PS3 one. I really didn't care either way.

Yah! You got the PS3 version . I'm so proud of you joey, its no longer a Blu Ray player:).

add me plz GTP_Labounti..... i'll be playing when i get off work, darn these 10 hour days.

 I have a few other games for the PS3, my most played one is the Lego Star Wars one though.

Yeah, I played the demo of that for the 360, and it has a good sense of humor. I am a PS3/360 owner and also planning to get a Wii soon because of Mario Kart Wii and probably the next gen F-Zero. FALCON PUNCH! Hmm... I'm neither a Sony or a Microsoft fanboy, and since I've been comparing these two versions by research, I have to go with the PS3. It is brighter, has less pop-ins, it loads faster and usually plays better on the PS3 if you want six-axis for controlling the sky choppers. The 360... it isn't that necessary to play GTA IV on that version. I'm not saying all PS3 games or 360 games can load faster or any of the features they have on one of two consoles is better. I like both consoles and I always take care of them. Besides, the 360 looks better with Saints Row 2 if Volition can try to resolve the graphics, the physics and the AI.

GTA IV for the PS3 is all I have to play more with the Sony controllers. If anybody thought of getting the limited edition, don't even spend on all that stuff to adore your friends. Just get it for $60 after you rented it and like it, and you'll be fine.

I'm getting the 360 version considering i don't have a PS3. I don't have enough money and I'm not going to get a job until the summer because this is actually my first year of doing well in all my subjects at school and I'm not willing to jeopardized that by getting a job.

I may have to change my vote to the 360 version if the PS3 version isn't patched to where I can play it. Constant freezing. ARRRRGG....
