But apparently (from what I've read) the problem is most common by far on the 60Gb PS3 model. I'd be surprised if Rockstar weren't on the problem very quickly with a patch.

Edit: or maybe not - that article is entitled "no fix in sight".

It's frustrating....., then again the game is only a few days old. Honestly, I would expect this on a PC release with all the different hardware variations out there, but not on a console release where hardware variables are predictable and can be planned for. Yes, this is very frustrating.

It's strange how it effects the 60GB more than the 40GB!

The main hardware is the same (bar a slightly smaller (200g lighter) heatsink on the 40GB).

40GB still uses the 90nm CELL and RSX, only difference is card readers and USB ports which will make no difference! Although admittedly, the 40GB PS3 uses a new motherboard revision which might be making the difference?

How could this have gotten past their QA when it occurs in BOTH 360 AND PS3???

I may have to change my vote to the 360 version if the PS3 version isn't patched to where I can play it. Constant freezing. ARRRRGG....
The bonus to the PS3 version (because I don't believe that the 360 installs anything to the HDD does it?) is that some seem to have fixed it by deleting their game files and saves and restarting.

Saw it on Joystiq yesterday.

Seems a pain but if you were going to switch consoles for it I don't see a difference, aside from a saved $60.

That was actually the first thing I tried.

I have tried every "Chicken Soup" remedy to solve this issue to no success. This is an issue that MUST be fixed by Rock Star for it to be resolved.

Hmm, well as it is on both systems I can only assume that this is a code issue and can be fixed via patch.

It does seem odd that it made it through QC testing.

I will be getting the Xbox360 version, since that's what my brother plans to get. I'm trying to finish up my classes, so hopefully I don't get sucked in when he gets it. :scared:

When both consoles came by default with a hard drive, it gave developers a blank check to patch games to fix problems rather than have them sorted out before release.

Not when Bully managed to make it through.

I may be wrong, but I remember reading a while back that it's a lot harder for a games company to release a console game than a PC game, because anyone can release a game for PC, but you have to get a license from Sony, Microsoft or Nintendo to release a game for their system and you have to pass their quality testing. I think this is the rationale behind Microsoft's "Games for Windows" platform, as a way of marking games that have passed their quality testing.

Which makes this problem all the stranger - how did Sony and/or Microsoft (edit: and of course Rockstar) not pick up on this bug? They've had an extra six months since their original released date to patch up anything that needs patching, and as Pako already said in another thread, this would be an understandable problem for an odd software/hardware combo for a PC game, but a major release like this should have been tested like crazy on all combos of Xbox/PS hardware available.

Not entirely correct. According to Kaz Hirai, the CELL processor in the 40GB model is 65nm, while the GPU remains at 90nm. This is why the size and weight of the heatsink was able to be reduced and why it uses slightly less power.

Anyway, I don't experience any freezing on my 40GB PS3.

The only thing that means is that the publisher has to pay a fee to achieve certification. Unfinished garbage like Enter the Matrix still gets released all the time. Remember, Bully was a major exclusive that Microsoft no doubt paid Take 2 to make not happen on the PS3 (hardly the kind of stuff Microsoft would fail certification for), and it was still totally unfinished.

And "Games for Windows" was just Microsoft's attempt to officially control the PC gaming market. You can still release games for the PC, and I think it actually may be more common for companies to forgo "Games for Windows" labeling than to bother with it.

Try turning off the remote start via the PSP on the XMB, I had problems conecting to MP and a couple of freezes, plus the game was telling me I wasn't sighned into the PSN when looking at online stats although I was........cured the problem for me on my 60gb PS3....can't hurt if your having the same problems!
