Yeah I did it...... I got Gold in all the B's YEAH. it only tock me a hour to get to B-8. but it tock me about 2-3 hours to beat B-8
42.768 YEAH........ Damn I'm Happy..... Now to A :D :D :D

I just got Bronze in S-1 last night and felt the same way. Such a feeling of relief as you round that last turn and you are a few car lengths ahead of your ghost (who missed it by .2 secs numerous times) knowing you will not have to slay that dragon again. Tonight I begin work on the DREADED S-2 seattle circuit license.

ewww S-2....that was the worst.

There's nothing that made me want to cry more than having what I thought was a great run on S-2 last weekend, only to find that I was .004 seconds off the bronze time... AARRGGHH!!!!

That's exactly where I was on that test a month ago. I put the controller down quietly and walked away. Haven't gone back to the license tests since.

Took me 2 hours to do the whole licence :sly:

Well, aren't you special.

I must admit though that S-8 is a right pig. That Toyota GT1 has too much bottom end torque.

Right after I got S-1 done last night, (bronze by .4 secs), I just started up S-2 and didn't even look at the demo. I knew it was a witch from all the posts but I wanted to see just how bad it was.

I failed to finish in my first 4 tries (wall) then finally rounded the last hairpin and finished. I looked down and to my dismay I was 12 seconds from bronze. OK...I ran a very conservative run and was simply trying to finish but 12 seconds off!

Suggestions? Advice? Hints? Any help is appreciated. I have been running with an Automatic tranny and using the analog stick for acceleration.

1) Do I need to make the swith to manual shifting? Can it be done with auto?

2) How long did you guys spend on S-2 and does it get easier after this one?

i always use automatic transmission on license tests.
it's easier to concentrate on the gas, which is easier to determine and tweak by watching the ghost.

Congrats on your progress thus far, tez!

S2 (along with B8) is undoubtedly one of the most talked-about license tests... for good reason.

Well, I **ALWAYS** start with the demo. The few times I haven't, my thumbs have paid dearly. I view the demo with all options the same way I race (cockpit view), and note the following things:
- how the car lines up when coming into/out of a turn
- enter/exit speeds for turns
- high/low speeds for turns
- landmarks (logos, banners, trees, rumblestrip, sometimes mph) for turning, braking, and accelerating
- checkpoint times, if any

Another thing I do is "play along" while the demo is running. I press the circle button (3 o' clock) to pretend I'm accelerating, the triangle button (12 o' clock) to pretend I'm braking, and the joystick to pretend I'm steering. This is good for muscle memory, as long as it is close to what the demo is doing... I didn't want to practice a bad run.

And, after at least 3 views, I'd step into the ring and start swingin! This is now my 2nd attempt at all license golds, on my 3rd gamsave. S2 has been the hairiest beast for all of them (I think it took me like 3 days on my previous "perfect" gamesave), but most recently it took me 42 attempts over 31 minutes to get 1.29.686 (I race auto, mostly using the keypad to steer). This was mostly due to a lot of first-turn fails.

The thing that made S2 hard for me was the fact that I didn't know how to slide-turn. I think it's impossibe for me to get gold without doing so. I didn't think slide turns were necessary for ALL of Seattle, but I needed to use the accelerator to help the car turn.

One last hint I can think of is: let the car drop to 1st gear for the final hairpin (after making the first 90 degrees, pump the gas once or twice) and keep the turn tight. You'll get the torque AND TRACTION you need when you come out, and you'll keep the right speed to catch the left-side rumble strip to help with your turn. This is definitely one of a couple places the demo can be outdone.

Keep us all posted on how you do, tez! Have a great drive!

I can't really offer any real in-depth tips for that test. Ironically, I didn't seem to have too much trouble with that test after I knew how to get through the first chicane correctly. But some basic "rule of thumbs" to follow are:

-Brake in a straight line, then turn in and apex each corner. You don't have to clip the rumble strips for each corner, but it does help.

-Get through each turn where you have to steer the car fully to the left or right to make it through the corner, meaning you need to keep up as much speed as possible. It should be to the point where you are narrowly missing the outside wall.

-Don't let the walls intimidate you! At circuits enclosed with railings (Seattle, Rome, Tokyo), hitting the walls and even scraping the walls slightly cause you to lose a lot of time, more-so than you would probably think. You will need to drive with confidence and precision, especially when going through the right-left-left uphill section after the back straightaway. It is crucial to nail the apexes and rumble strips here.

-Try to be smooth and keep a constant momentum. Keep the car stable by not making any drastic jerks on the steering and unnecessary left and right movement. This is especially important when passing through the downhill jumps section towards the end of the circuit where sudden changes in direction can send you hurtling into the wall.

-Practice, practice, practice! Watch the demo and learn how to approach, go through, and exit each corner. If it helps, you can learn the route section by section or even turn by turn. The first turn is one of the biggest places that can make or break your entire lap, so once you can conquer that turn, the rest will come to you.

B-8 was a killer. the trick (for anyone who still has to do it) is to get very low into the final corner (on the yellow line), and exit way into the tunnel without sliding. this will give you the extra speed needed up the last hill. It took me about 2 hours to do B1-B7 golds and about 6 hours to do B-8 over 3 days. (I just started playing though, didn't even race at all before hand, since I wanted the Miata LS). Now I could easily do it in about 10 tries since I have gotten better. And I too, have had some very close license test times. I beat the IA license for one of my friends and one of the times was 24.000 (i think) and i finished at 24.000 exactly. I have also finished .003 short of a time too. But I know how good it feels to beat a tough license. I just beat IB-6, 7, and 8 gold which I though were impossible. Now I am moving on the the golds on IA. Just keep trying and you will get it.

Ive spent 2 hours just on S2 it makes me want to pull my hair out...Arghhh!!!!

Keep trying Sk8rKiD

You'll do it eventually , watching the Demos, using Manual and using every inch of track and Kerb can help? :curvyrd:

i am up to the s licence now..

I have found them all pretty easy so far, but when i had a go of s1 the closest i got to bronze was about a second... but i did only have 3 goes at it..
more practice needed :D
