I just feel so angry now and i was supposed to get a laptop but i have to get a new ps3 instead. Gt5 is inside my ps3 the getting out disc method dosent work with a 60gb ps3.
Luckily, 2 days ago i backed up my gt5 save. :sly:

UPDATE I - My sister's boyfriend has let me borrow his ps3 for a little while. (But gt5 is still trapped in my 60gb ps3!) :grumpy:

Update II: Got a new ps3 slim 160gb and accessories for €310 and my backed up save worked! So happy to be back on gt5!

Bad times! however i was under the impression that GT5 file saves were locked to the console? Hope for your sake their not! Also on a side note, DIY repairing YLOD is fairly straight forward. My 40GB console suffered YLOD about 6months ago, spent about £20 on a heat gun, arctic silver thermal paste and security torx (different from standard torx). After following the Gilksy Files instructional vids on youtube, hey presto! all fixed. Suprisingly since then, had no further issues. It may therefore be worthwhile to consider the option, which would also free up funds for the laptop.

Merry Xmas

That is some bad timing... is it too late to ask Santa for some last-minute changes under the tree?

You may want to get a new shift key as well, Dylan ;). Friendly reminder to follow the AUP, even though I definitely understand your disappointment given the situation.

bingo!

sorry to hear about your PS3.

My launch 60gb YLODed on me few weeks ago.

I did the Gilksy's repair method last week and it's been running great. (knock on wood)

it's really not that hard of repair. looks more complicated then it really is.

try it out, what else you got to loose but some time and little money for the thermal paste(assuming you have the other tools).

here's his youtube tutorial...

hope it works out for you. have a Merry Christmas. 👍

Christmas eve, 60 gb quits reading discs. was in the middle of some gt academy work and bam quit bringing the menu up when I would pause. Bought the ps3 21 days ago from gamestop. bought their replacement plan. Since it was within 30 days, the replacement plan is still there, and I got another 60 gb ps3 today.

Give him the damn infraction! Interludes certainly doesn't discriminate, neither should you. He busts my balls over every little thing.

My 60 also YLOD on me last year. Do the Gilsky stuff on youtube. I was able to fix mine about 4-5 times before it finally quit. You can do that while you save for a new slimline and get your laptop.

Also, if it does YLOD on you with your disc inside, you can get it out. When mine crapped out the last time and the Gilksy fix didn't work my roommates game was inside. If you're careful and do it right, you can take the BD drive apart and get the game out.

EDIT: After reading back through some posts, anyone who has a 60g (especially refurbished) they will YLOD. All my friends who have the old model PS3's have all be YLODing recently. Just the way they were built. Everyone do yourselves a huge favor (and headache) and buy a slimline. They're YLOD chances are .5-2% and they're almost impossible to overheat if you keep them in an open space. Also keep them away from cigarrete smoke and keep them flat. And last but not least, DVD spin faster than Blu-Ray's do. I YLOD my 60 from watching 3 movies in a row during break from school while it was exposed to smoke for the first time standing up. The combo was a knock out for my 60

Sucks. You've just missed Santa as well.
Chin up, he'll be back next year.

I can't remember the exact link but search youtube for something like, 'ylod fix for ps3'. There are loads of easy tutorials on hows to fix it yourself. I've done mine twice now, the second time took about 25 mins.
I'm not usually good with electrical things but this was a piece of cake!

If you just want to retrieve your disk, do this:

Turn off the system with the switch on the back of the console.
Place a finger onto the 'eject' button and hold it there while you turn the system on again with the rear switch.
The system should go into a 'super fan' mode and also eject your disk, (Just keep your finger on the eject button until this happens).
This worked for me, good luck!

I had my 60gb YLOD last year and i had to pry that blu-ray drive apart to get my disc out.

Hi Sylph,

Using the 'super fan' mode trick definitely works. I can't remember where I found out about it though, possibly youtube.
I, like most people didn't read any of the PS3s manual when I bought it. It seems that the 'super fan' mode should be activated now and again to help blast out the dust etc that accumulates over time.

EDIT: The 'fan test' mode may not a feature on all PS3s though.

I don't think that works on the launch 60gb.

when my 60gb unit YLODed, my GT5 disc was stuck in it.

I was just going to go buy a slim but I needed to get my disc out first.

tried this method, no luck.

I do not think the original 60gb have the "fan test" mode for this method to work.
perhaps they added this feature on the later fat units.

Aaaah, you're probably right. I have the 40GB that was released shortly after the 60gig launch model. Guess Sony realised there was a problem back then!

Actually, you can do the eject trick to the 60GB unit. It worked on mine as my system got the YLOD a few weeks ago and I got my disc out.

Good luck!

NEVER EVER do this!
Many have got their system broken because of that "super fan" (AKA fan test) mode... :nervous:

But if you already have the YLOD and just want your disc out, well when no problem (if it actually still can do it?).
