The longest shift I have ever put in has been 20 hours! With an 18 hour shift the next day! UGH! That hurt!

I worked at a convention center where we put out AOL's Christmas holiday party for 6,000 people every year!

I don't doubt it. One of the strangest things I ever did involved a set of leasing documents for a doctor.

He had a small break in surgery at about 10pm, and I had to meet some people in a nearby hotel at about 7. I took the documents with me (he was buying a car) and to be blunt, had a fair bit to drink - I had warned him I'd probably have had a few beers.

So I roll up at ten with about seven or eight beers in me, he's worked something like 18 hours straight - it was a pretty interesting signing, I can tell you. I doubt either of us was legally competent.

What do you know about sucking like a turbo hoover? (:

I'm the Sys Admin at an advertising agency. w00t! Right now I'm working three 8 hour days a week. The off-time is really nice, but if they'll double my pay I'll be there the other two days.

BAM!

lets see...Project Manager at an Architectural firm. 50 Hours a week w/ another 5-10hrs in driving.

Used to be a Combat engineer (Got to use High explosives. high stress, but fun when you deconstruct bridges). Honduras, Panama, Mexico, Texas, South Carolina, Missouri, Vermont.

Did the Nude male dancer thing for awhile. That's how I met my wife.

Sales Councelor at Circuit city (never believe a salesman, they lie) at the same time I was a CAD monkey. 70-90 hrs a week for 2 years (and still had $143 dollar in returnable cans in one year).

Student (Hey, alotta people go to school for seven years. Yes, they're called doctors.) Received 2 degrees, though.

Sunday school teacher, Soccer coach, Clerked a convenience/video store.

Just kidding about the Male dancer thing, I only do that FOR my wife.

Question: Are you out of Nursing for good?
I ask because we are currently in Union negotiations and life in the hospital is a lot like sanding a bobcats butt, in the fun dept.
Every day I wonder what It would be like to work in one of the big music stores, playing my way thru the guitar inventory and helping peeps choose their musical mates.

I don't work, I stay at home and look after my 4 children aged 11, 9, 5 & 3 :)

When the youngest is in school full time i might get a job, don't know what though

I have six from 17 down to 10. And that is exactly why I work. So I can get a little peace.
Actually, kudos to you. It takes a strong person to stay at home with little people. Anyone who doesn't think that's work is out of their minds. You get paid in love and respect from the wee ones.
Money is a neccesity, but I think I like your paycheck better.

6 kids! Gee i thought i had it tough . Lucky for me Mr P brings in the money so i don't have to worry about finding a job really . Would be nice to earn a few quid and get a break at the same time though. Staying at home with the kids is just as stressful as any job, though rewarding like you say :)

Yea Lotus, that's like my mom...her job really is to keep the house running, take care of all of the intricut stuff, get groceries and other stuff, and, well, everything. It's great though, she likes it, and we like it. She is currently looking for a job at a furnature store. She's an interior designer, been one for, well, ever, just when my bro was born (1983) she had to quit and take care of him, and then I came around in 1986 so she never got back into it. If she gets a job(no one wants to hire her, I don't know why, but she's been turned down just about every time, or the working hours and pay wasn't good. She will get one eventually.

While I'm already talking about my family, here's my dad. He use to work in several fast food places in his teens, the likes of McDonalds and StakeNShake. He went to Ranken Tech, and began working at this GN Imports place, they worked on Alfa Romeos, Lancias, Renult, Saab, and several others. In 1982, we(as in my parents)moved out here(unincorperated STL county)and he started working at Lou Fusz Mazda-Subaru, where he quickly became a Mazda Master Tech, and later a Subaru Master Tech(or whatever it is for Subaru). He got his own stalls(or garages if you like), 2 of them, walls on both sides(the other stalls are just open, 4 open on 1 side(my dads side)and 6 on the other side, and the other mechanics(some of which shouldn't be called a mechanic) have those)and his own huge tool box(it must weigh several tons, it's the biggest Craftsman one you can get, and he had add ons on it), 1 lift, and 1 just flat spot, so he can, and has, worked on 2 cars at the same time, and make big hours, usually the most for any one else in the place. He was recently moved up to Shop Forman, so now not only does he work on cars, but he has to help the guys who can't fix anything right(he has a joke about them, he calls them "the come back kids, they fix a car today and it comes back tomarrow"and he usually fixes the other guys screw ups). He use to do tons of side work, but he has ended that cause he wants to just work his job and not 2 jobs, but he still works on family and close friends cars. There was talk that he could work for Mazda directly as a trouble shooter, meaning that he is sent all over the place to fix cars that no one can fix, but he had to turn that down cause that ment a move to either KC, Dallas, or Cali, and we can't move if we tried. I think that they should build a Mazda operations building out here, but they probably wont.

Then there's my bro. He began working at Quiznos(sub place like Subway, but better), and worked there for about 6 months(and gained 15 pounds while working...)and then he just got tired of them keeping him late, so he quit, and found a job at Lou Fusz Chevy as a porter, but that is a drive to St.Charles, and he got tired of it, and found a job at Lou Fusz Nissan-Mazda-Subaru dealership(ok, I need to explain: my dad works at the Mazda-Subaru shop which is repair and parts only. Then you go right next door and there's where my bro works which is a Nissan shop and the Mazda-Subaru-Nissan dealership)as a new car prep. He details the new cars, puts in floormats or other stuff, washs, waxes, and polishes new cars for delivery. It's an awsome job, he makes 8$ and hour and just likes it. He cleans our cars(just cleaned the MPV, it's shiny as hell, everything: tires, wheels, body, trim, it looks like we are back in 1992 when it was made), and weekly cleans his car(it's got a blinding glare cause he cleans it soo much).
Then there's his side job(almost a main job):Buying, Selling, Trading 626, MX-6, and Probe parts. He can get you anything. You want a digital insturment cluster? He's got several(out of very limited numbers in Canada). Want a factory Mazda CD player made for it? he's got that. Need a factory grill with driving lights or fog lights? He can get these from Holland(even though they are illegal here, but they go 1500FT!). He has everything, and can get everything. He also fixes them up with a freind who got this old machine shop and turned it into a garage, and another freind who lives near Cape Gerardo MO. He has been responsible for at least 15 cars that were heading for the junkyard, to be returned on the road, and sold to happy buyers. My dad doesn't like it though cause of all the parts and occasional cars over here...

That's about it...

:) hi Gil
No, i am not out of nursing for good, i just wanted to take a year out and do something stress-free for a while and when i met slip2rock he thought it was a good idea; so i've done it ;)
I must admit though i do actually miss it quite alot, must just be born to look after people i suppose!! ....although it is really dangerous for me working in a snowboard shop; as i want to buy all the cool stuff myself

Hmmm, maybe I should do a part-time gig in a guitar store.:D
I want no freebies from the hospital, that's for sure.

Got a joke for you Bird,
What is the difference between a nun and a nurse?

I thought you might like that one.
Very few people appreciate nurse humor.
But then who else can talk about bodily fluids of all types...while eating?

And who else, besides werewolves, hate to even leave the house when the moon is full?
I would rather sand a Bobcat's behind than go to the hospital during a full moon.

Are you implying he was stealing subs from Quizno's?

My roomate worked at Subway, and they only inventory the bread, not the rest of the goodies (at least they used to). So we'd call up and order like a regular cheese sub, the cheepest thing on the menu. And he'd make us triple-meat monsters with all the extras and send them out with the delivery guys. It was great.

He's also stamp us up dozens of those 'free sub' cards any time there was a roadtrip coming. We kind of got sick of Subway but we ate a lot of it for verrrrry little money thanks to him.

I work at a little garge called FNCustoms. We tune cars. There are 5 of us that work there. My friends dad runs the place outta the his house. I don't work 40 hours a week but sometimes I do.
