you like zeppelin?Music

yeay moby dick is exellent but i can only listen to it occasionally...if i am listening to the 2nd disc i usually just skip that song

one thing im confused about is that theres a track named moby dick, but its not moby dick, and moby dick is called dancing days, probably a stupid question but do you know why?

i dont want to get into an arguement because music is based on preference, taste and perception...to some he may be the best...to me, he isn't...its thats simple

try listening to to

Nick Barker: COF
Dave Lombardo: Slayer
Paul Bostaph: Forbidden and Slayer

open your musical horizons.

when it comes to technical ability, musical feel, intuitiveness, range of musical influences, dedication, improvisation and rhytmical organisation these guys top the list of best three for me...but there are loads more from differerent genres....these are top for me because i believe that this is the most technically demanding genre of music.

I understand all that. It's not about musical preferance, its about facts. Bonham is one of the greatest drummers ever, without arguement, whether anyone likes it or not.

Most technically damanding genre of music? Bumham can do quads with one foot, on a single bass set, without a double peddle. Technical ability? Dedication? Ask Paul Bostapt to do a double quad with one foot...

its amazing how every Led Zeppelin conversation turn into a comparison field. you realy cant compare led zeppelin to any other band, because no other band can play like them. wheter they made sloppy stuff (wich they awesomely did. yes, they were dirty and sloppy) or incredibly finessed stuff (lemon song anyone?) no band that has ever covered them has come close. hell, not even themselves after parting out have come close to what they did, even in tgheir first-post-Zep works, where they still had the zeppelin sound on them, they couldnt get to even their shoes when they were together. I agree totally with Neon. They needed to be together to be THAT great. it couldn't have been any other way.

I think Rush comes close to them in terms of technical ability when playing as a whole. I suppose you could compare Led Zeppelin and Rush in that way despite the fact that their music styles are quite different.

Geddy Lee's voice would not work with any other band.

While I'm talking about Rush, Neil Peart beats out Jon Bonham on the drums.

woa...a fact?...is that in the Guinness book of records?

Ask Paul Bostapt to do a double quad with one foot...

i will ask him if i ever meet him....but i am sure he could...Bonham isnt super human, despite what you think.

Amazing, since you earlier, not in this thread, said that Jon Bonham was the best drummer ever...? Whereas you say here that Neil Peart beats out Jon Bonham on the drums. Personally, I'd say that Jon Bonham had a better sound while Neil Peart has a better beats-per-minute ratio.

Currently though, Danny Carey is one of the best drummers. Travis from Blink-182 can play faster but no one can play cleaner than Danny.

I never said Bonham was a superhuman. I don't think you know what a double quad is, it is difficult to do on a double bass set, let alone on Bonham's single bass set.

p.s. A double quad is eight beats of the bass drum in about a second.

**..**..**..**..

It looks like that (see above) on paper, with the two little dots being the contact with the snare and/or the rack toms or floor tom(s) that completes the 'quad' then you do the same thing over again, hence the name 'double quad.' I can do a double quad on a double bass set, and it is not easy, I couldn't imagine doing it on a single bass set, nor could I imagine tying to keep up with Bonham.

I just got done listening to several of their songs - from the beginning up to their most recent. I gotta say, I didn't find their music to be very good. Maybe it's me, but idunno...it wasn't my thing.

You guys ARE right about how they sound individually. If you listen to the carefully and take the music piece by piece, you can tell that they just would not manage to sound good without eachother.

wow dude, I think you are a little lost on that. evey member of the zep is a top-notch artist in what they do. Jimmy Page may very well be the best guitarrist of all time, incredibly creative, technic (he had a unique, very developed technique, all his very own), experimental (ever seen him play his double deck guitar with a violin bow?) could play ANYTHING he wanted with absolute confidence and it always sounded very cool, and for those whom speed matters too much, he was lightning fast.
On his own Page was no Hendrix, but as a group Zepplin were exellent, they are one of the best groups ever and they always will be.

some of their songs rock ass, others of theirs just bore me. They're not one of my faves but I still listen to some of their stuff...some meaning that I don't have any of their albums, just a few songs here and there.

Page is not the greatest guitarist of all time. Bonham is not the greatest drummer. Plant is not the greatest vocalist. Zep is not the greatest band. Does any of that really matter? I don't think so. Zep still rocks.

Dyer Maker will probably always be my favorite Led Zeppelin song, I don't know why. Over The Hills and Far Away, Immigrant Song, Tangerine, and Misty Mountain Hop are also among my favs.

:odd: damn that is weird. I mean, I like dyer maker, it gets me on a good mood, but it's... very prescindible... it's even silly. but yes, nice song. just odd.

Genre: Everything and anything under the sun. The more genre-meshing the better. Just as long as it sounds good.
Lead Singer: Steven Morrissey because he has the best voice ever.
Guitarist: Jimi Hendrix because he is the best guitarist ever
Bassist: Jaco Pastorius because he is the best bassist ever.
Drummer: Jon Bonham because he is the best drummer ever.
Backup Singer: Mark Sandman because he so obviously rules He could also play the standup bass if it were needed in a certain song.

I prove my point.

IMHO, Zeppelin Sucks... They had their moments but, as of now, should also have their peace....

Led Zeppelin are legends of Rock. Jimmy Page is a great guitarist, and has been named up there with some of the greatest ever. I agree with Ser0119, they are not the greatest band ever, Jimmy, Jon and Plant aren't the best in their areas, but Zeppelin ruled! Although they should probably give it up now.

I'm also sick of these old bands trying to keep up with the times, or even worse, trying to do the same act they did years ago (Judas Priest). I think some old bands are still going strong, though (Slayer) 👍.

Well, i dont really have a problem old bands touring again. I'm 15, and I was never around when Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Rush and other bands first came out, but now, 'classic rock' is all I listen to, and I am glad they are touring again because I've never had the chance to see them in their hay day. I'm going to see deep purple in august along with e mad, and rush as well, now if they weren't touring i would never have been able to experience these legends of rock and roll.

Yea, I'm a fan of the classics, hell I'm 16. But I'm saying bands like Judas Priest are embarassing themselves by trying to look and act exactly the same as they did when they were first popular. Look at their singer, I mean geez. 'Nuff said. But I still went and saw a Kiss concert a while ago, and they're still using the same gimmicks. It's a matter of knowing when it's your time to quit.

Yeah, I get what your saying now. I thought you meant like they shouldn't tour all together.
