That would be fantastic but FOM owns the intellectual rights to all F1 cars, apart from Ferrari, so we will not see a Red Bull Racing F1 car in GT.

There must be a workaround, since there are other games that have late 2000s williams and saubers (lfs, rfactor, iracing). What I would want the most though are classic lotus cars (pcars).

Maybe there's no way to license current f1 cars, but those are slower than the older ones anyway and lack the charm of lets say Senna's 88 car.

TG probably is more popular than all major motorsports categories combined, hence it's the #1 license to exploit. Forza4's autovista was a console seller by itself.

But it is still a bit strange that people complain about crappy cars.
And when those cars have appeared in a show, that is all about entertainment which happen to have cars in it, they suddenly turn up on a wishlist.

Don't get me wrong, I love watching Top Gear but it's not a very good car-program ;)

Those games have a lot of mods though which could explain that. Perhaps the FOM's rights expire after a certain period.

Yeah, it's like Top Gear is a seal of approval for anything, people only wish for oddities like the Peel and Reliant Robin when they appeared on the show yet complain about cars like the Midget and 2CV for example.

It's a bit sad if your only frame of reference for anything car-related is an amusing TV-show whilst discovering unique cars yourself and reading up on car history to find stuff you never heard of before is apparantly too much to ask.
People can't even make up their own mind anymore it seems, like trying the Prius in GT5 without resorting to whatever Clarkson has said about it.

Like you I enjoy watching Top Gear but it isn't the end all (nor the beginning) of an interest (or passion) for cars, it's a sideshow and nothing more.
 
Also would be cool if they release a new league in both A-Spec and B-Spec events. Call it DLC

It would include events that require DLC cars and tracks to participate, and the prizes could be something like pre-order/special cars (Chrome line, Stealth, Edge, Gamestop, GT Academy)

But for that they would need to release much more tracks and cars.

Of course it's only a television show, but you have to admit it's the license to use. For example adding the current DTM cars and Motegi is not a selling point.

As for the show itself, it brought lots of people into cars and motorsports, which is always a good thing especially for the latter. Also I don't know if this thread is the right place to initiate a rant about the show based on "motorhead elitism".

What's wrong with "motorhead elitism" if it's that at all? I don't care frankly how many people get interested in cars or motorsport, especially if it means they don't look beyond the content of that show, if it's only a starting point I'll agree but it often seems to start and end with that show.
That becomes a bit tedious, and has nothing to do with elitism nor snobbery, just asking people to come up with their own suggestions (whatever they might be) instead of blindly putting in what they've seen on the telly.

If finding your own preferences and interests over time is considered being elitist or snobbish however, then I'm fine with being called an elitist or snob.
I'd like to see the personal preferences of people displayed here, and sure they could overlap with what's being shown on Top Gear, which isn't the same as only displaying what appeared there.
Why not just put in a link to each TG episode ever recorded?

I would love to see a little "changed up" feature that was present in GT4.

GT4 had the option for each car to purchase a Nitrous Oxide system with variable strength. Seeing as the trend for "economical cars" plays a big role in development, I would love a KERS like system to be purchasable in the tuning shop. It would give you an additional tactical element for racing. These systems are in development all over the place, Porsche running Hybrids in Nurb 24H race, Toyota's TS030, GT500 2L Hybrid concepts etc.

This and the Typical Porsche/RUF premiums and some missed tracks from earlier GT games.

You seem to assume I have something against Top Gear or those who only get their knowledge of cars through watching that show, which isn't the case.
Nor do I exclude them from being a true enthusiast (whatever that may be) or assume anyone watching it doesn't posses any other knowledge, heck I enjoy watching it myself and I can understand certain cars that appear on the show end up here.

But I do find its influence on people's preferences (or even their opinions) sometimes so obvious that it simply made me question if some people ever looked elsewhere for anything car related, if they don't that's fine but it would make these kind of threads a bit more original and surprising and not so predictable, that's all really.

I'll agree that my posts could be perceived as generalizing somewhat (that's hardly escapable if you try to adress a general trend you notice) or its tone a bit strong (or exaggerated) but your describtion of being a giant bookworm looking for obscure facts after me suggesting reading up could also be perceived as generalizing, or at least an exaggeration.

Uh, yes we do. Simply to allow a full field of different NASCAR drivers. Nothing annoys me more than to see 2 Jeff Gordon cars on the track.

And that "70's-90's NASCAR" is an idea I had come up before. It would be cool to see the old drivers like Dale Earnhardt, Terry Labonte, and Bill Elliott duke it out on High Speed Ring.

Morgan is a nice car. The problem is in getting the license to make it available in the game. But I support the suggestion. I also hope that the DLC, The Vitaphone Maserati MC12 appear. But it seems harder to believe that the DLC will be released, than hope that a specific car is released. It's been too long since the last DLC.
