Your expectations of GT4

Since the TGS there has been a lot more said about GT4. Online mode has been ditched, but features like B Spec have been announced and demo'ed, also showing us the pit crew animations to name but a few.

Now that we have a little bit more info about GT4 (and yet another possible release date), have your expectations towards the game, risen or fallen?

fallen, no online mode. Great B spec and photo mode :P, as if that's a fair trade off.
 
My social life will be deep-sixed for about ... three months while I complete the Simulation / Career mode. Then it will be back to regular scheduled programming.

I dunno. I want to drive all the cars on all the tracks. Participate in some "Rotaries at Midfield" for GT4. Oogle at all the pretty pictures. Then eat some pie.
 
My expectations have certainly risen.

It shows that KY is doing all he can to make this game perfect. The PS2 is a great console, but it has it's limitations. And still KY tries to push it.
It's new features like the B-Spec and Photo modes that really show that the game will remain fascinating for multiple years. They offer such variety and convenience, that will keep gamers going.
Some of my favorite cars have been confirmed to be in the game, and that only satisfies me more :D.
If I could meet KY, I would just say "thank you".
 
i think TGS was overall a lessening of gt4. No online was a bad deal. weather you were going to use it or not thats a big black mark on PD. The good news given, one track shown that we already known about and about 25 new cars... I think PD really needed to finish the show with a big anouncment, but maybe they don have one...
the game will be great, if they ever release it. I will get it (put a deposit on it 6 months ago) i will love it.I'd say though that overall PD receives a "4" for the TGS.

I expect nothing. I think that's the problem around here. Everybody wants something different, everybody wants too much, and everybody wants it NOW.

Online Mode: Boo-hoo :( Why doesn't everyone just go in a corner and cry about it. To tell you the truth, I am glad Kaz had the integrity to face the GT-playing public and tell them its not included. I would much rather see a working version of online mode six months from now instead of a bugged out, glitch ridden, rushed version of it now, that most likely I wouldn't play anyways out of frustration from the problems.

I know that this version of GT will be great. Every game will have its problems. If your expecting to get a perfect game that will please you 100%, your dreaming. If your expecting a great racing game that will be worth your money and time, then Gran Turismo 4 will be the game for you.

or they could have gotten this feature done before adding pointless crap like b spec, like 99% of devs do :P. Lets see how much they charge for the online mode eh, thats how much integrity they have...
 
I hope that I'll be able to take a few days off at work when "it" comes out. I'm gonna buy my GT4, hurry home, put the disk in my PS2, and drive drive drive drive drive drive drive drive drive drive drive drive . . .

Some people always have something to brag about. I don't like this, I don't like that, . . . Personally I don't care for drag racing and drifting, but I am a full 100% sure that GT4 will have more than enough content to keep me happy for a long looooooong time !
 
I think my expectations are the same as they were before TGS. Cause although I really liked that B-Spec idea, that kinda makes a whole new game giving a sort of RPG feeling to it, I was really counting on the online feature. But it´s not so bad, since we´re getting online mode next year, and with some luck we will be able to play GT4 online through the Xlink with no lag until the Online version comes out.

So maybe my expectations are a little higher than before, but just a little. =)
 
Fallen! but not very much, cus the online feature will come by the time. I was happy about the online feature, but ill guess i have to wait for the "2nd" release

Out of curiousity... do you have any idea how software development works?

Your above statement makes it look as if you have little or no knowledge of the subject matter at all.

Rushed!? The first release date given (ok , maybe not official) was over a year ago. Even back then they were saying it was 70% done, we're just working on the details. You can say it takes along time to make the game but dont give me this "rushed out" stuff.

I know enough to know that if they were having problems with online modes from the word go, they should have got more man power to work on it, rather then waste it on crap.
 
Some interesting points, made there folks.

cudadude2 - It did seem like PD had no "amazing" news about the game, to end the show with. Maybe there isn't anything left to amaze us with........If there’s nothing else to tell us, then maybe, just maybe the December release date is the final one.. (I reserve the right to withdraw my final comment at a later date, to prevent myself looking stupid ;) )

Gturismo1 - Spot on. No matter what PD put into the final game, not everyone will be happy. I'd like to see a more granular game, whereby you get loads of different pit crew animations, crash damage, reverse lights and pit radios to name but a few. However, none of these are essential to the game, and I'm still going to enjoy the game if they are not included.

code_kev - It's very possible that B Spec was just an idea a few months ago, but was put into the final game, because they knew online wasn't going to work. This seems to be a very normal practise for game developers. They start work on loads of ideas at the start of the project, and slowly over time ditch the ones that don't work, or would take too long to finish and would push the release date back.

Pointless to you perhaps, but your one person of out possible millions that will purchase the game. Also, I love how you can criticize B-Spec before you have actually played it. There is a couple videos out there showing how it works, but until you play it, don't criticize it.

And if they do charge alot of money for the online mode, don't buy it. But I will.

Cite your source. What does 70% relate to. Is it 70% of the total game? 70% of the game engine? 70% of the cars recorded? 70% of the tracks entered? 70% of the games layout built? Not trying to knock you or anything, but game developers like to say one thing when they are doing another. They may have said 70% is complete when they could have meant 50%. They could have meant the easy 70% is out of the way, now we are working on the difficult 30% thats left. Catch my drift? I never tend to believe what "they" say. :)


Gran Turismo was never meant to be a sole online game. Online was more like an added gift. I would like that gift to be like opening a present and getting keys to a car, not six pairs of socks. :D

Im not slagging b spec off, I'm sure it's fun and all, but compared to online racing it's abit crap.
 
What I expect?

A good Racing game with lots of cool cars.
- I think I get that.

The Nordschleife much more realistic than in PGR2.
(22.8 km in PGR2, its 20.8 km!! And show me the driver
that runs it in under 6:40 with Street Tyres)

- I think KY have done that right. 👍
 
What gt4, a simulation is more realistic then the arcade game pgr2? What a shock...

just a game? sounds like a simulator to me... they've always lied about that in the Past, but GT4 is actually a pretty good sim, not the best, but it can now be called a sim for the first time.
 
No Lambo, no Ferrari, no Porsche, no Online mode, no damages, 6 cars only... :grumpy:

but... it's a drug... i need GT4!!! :D

That is my top expectation and hopefully decent AI. Everything else already seems perfect. 👍
 
Every GT in the series have outdone the previous one. Although the number of cars in GT3 was lackin, but now they're repaying us with 650 haha...
I'm sure many ppl are disappointed with the abortion of online game play but I never considered playing GT online. Instead for me I think I'd have just as much fun tuning the cars with the increased detail of tuning in GT4 and running laps.
With the implication of b spec I see a different aspect of the game. When we used to see replays of us driving now we can control the action and watch it as if it's live.
My expectations have risen not because of the previous points tho, but I think the Mission mode of the game will really interest me. This game isn't ALL about racing it's about Driving and that's 2 different things I think . I really enjoy the "missions" in the license tests but extra mission mode is definitely something I'm looking forward to.
Drift cars are in now ---> that's also a plus 👍
And with the new "human" element in the mix, I think the game will feel livelier than just hunks of metal moving on a track.

shivers when I watch the intro movies of GT will come back to me when I drop my jaw in amazement.
 
my expectations are very high because before TGS I expected a game similar to the previous GT games as far as game modes (i.e. simulation mode with the main focus being the racing, also being able to modify your car, testing it, and licencing, and then arcade mode with it's click and race format). Now with the announcments at TGS the game is much bigger then I previously thought (i.e. B-spec mode, the whole Gran Turismo Resort idea, Mission races, implementation of scoring, and of course photo mode). I also like that they upped the minimum ammount of cars in the game from 500+ to 650+ and I really like the way El Capitan looks. Now for online mode .. I am slightly disappointed that it will not be in the game because I was planning on using it, but the game is going to be so large that my time will be preoccupied by going through the game anyway (who wants to race against other people unless you have a decent car, and you can't have a decent car unless you have the money ect ect ect. .)
 
My expectations are very high because I know this game will own and after all of those delays, I am expecting a fantastic game. 👍
 
My expectations of GT4 are.

I will expect it to be a game.
I will expect it to come out this year.
I will expect that I will enjoy playing it.

Total Cost of Ownership for the 'GT4 Experience': More than most people are going to bother with.

So we get a whole new game next year with online mode eh? Woohoo, watch me get all excited as PD trot out another cashcow for us all to swallow.

Sony need to get their **** into gear, full stop. Network Entertainment my ass. F1 2004 gives you the staggering ability to race best lap times, nothing more. Sega did that with the Dreamcast and a 56k modem 5 years ago. That new Resident Evil game that was meant to be 4 people getting together online to survive Racoon City, solving puzzles, each with their own unique skills - the Australian version has no online side. Now, GT4 drops online play, after the game was substantially delayed for its inclusion. But, they're going to have an online game ready in 6 months or so. Which means it's pretty much just done right about now. Or, alternatively, it isn't done now, so what hope do they have of making it perfect in 6 months if they couldn't do it in the previous year?

Don't tell me if I don't like it to buy something else. I may. Don't tell me not to buy GT4 if I hate it so much. I don't, but I may not. I'm not blowing this out of proportion. But there are some people wearing business suits that cost more than my car who don't seem to be too in touch with the real world anymore. Whether anyone else agrees with me, I don't know, but online gaming is the future. Why spend billions developing real, learning AI when you can just have a great online mode and pit people against some physical intelligence? Doesn't that make sense? Why do millions of people still play Counter-Strike religiously? It's like, 7 years old, and still they play. Still the mods, the support, the interest remain. And that's just CS, a game with a comparatively short story and little in terms of replay value. Can you imagine GT with that sort of following? A game that lasts years already would become eternal. I don't want spin offs, I don't want expansion packs, I want a fully featured game when I buy it. Don't tell me I should be thankful for what I'm getting. If this was free, then you can say that. But it's not. And it's getting less free with every month. I got an email recently that the service structure for Network Entertainment in Australia would be being overhauled in the coming months. I'm not even going to bother taking bets on where that's going.

So my expectations have plummeted pretty significantly. Online was one of the big things still missing for me that I hoped would be addressed. I think Drag Racing is retarded, I think Drifting is lame for the most part, my dad's a photojournalist and I've been playing with cameras since I could walk, so I don't need to pretend I'm a photographer in Photo Mode, and whilst B Spec mode looks remotely interesting, it all feels pretty contrived as though they're trying to hide the glaring omission. Yes, some people here will love it. But do you think Photo Mode is going to spread more word of mouth and move more units than being the best online racing game of this console generation?
