Hey guys!

So, I really enjoy overtaking other drivers, and hearing stories about overtakes.
Therefore, I've decided to make a thread, dedicated to overtakes.

I'm hoping that everyone posts up stories about overtakes, following these simple guidelines:

  • Please don't use the names of other drivers!
  • Please don't consider "forgetting to brake" and smashing into someone "an overtake." It's just NOT an overtake.
  • Please make sure that the two cars are somewhat similar in performance

And some ideas/topics/"naming ideas:"

  • Funny
  • Incredible
  • Vettel/Alonso @ Monza 2011
  • Online league races
  • Important (championships on the line, etc.)
  • "professional" overtakes.

I don't care which cars you're in, or anything, but, if you make a clean, and somehow interesting pass, tell us about it here!

A great battle with a friend happened a couple of weeks ago during our league race at suzuka. It was the last stint, I had pitted 2 laps earlier and he was pitting this lap (lap 38/45). SuperGT, racing med, no aids, no abs.

I came out right on his tail and knew I had to keep with him through the essess to have a chance. My tires were warm so I took the lap to position myself for a move down the front straight. Having an edge in straight line speed made it easier for me to comfortably take the position heading into the first corner.

Knowing it was just one line through the first sector, I took it easy to prepare to make a break for it in the last part of the lap. Had a smooth drive out of spoon and quick through 130r, but not quick enough. He was in position for a draft down the front straight. I moved hard right to defend the inside, he pulled up beside me, side by side past the start/finish line.

I thought at this point he would move to take a better line through the corner...he didn't. He kept me pinned to the right of the track, he had a bad line...but mine was worse, both braking late as we dare into the first corner, I run my right front over the grass trying to slow the car down in time. He slides smoothly into 2nd place and I'm relegated to third. My tires are 5laps old now and don't have the pace through the essess of a new set. He manages a gap and keeps hold for the last 4 laps of the race.

Close and clean driving, I really enjoyed the battle even coming worse off in the end. Youtube vid below

Racing at Indy in NASCAR cars, 11 lap race. I started 7th in a field of 10. The guy I ended beating started 4th. By lap 4, I was in 2nd. I decided to bump draft the guy for the next several laps in order to put some distance between us and the rest of the field. By lap 8, it was just him and I by a good margin so I stopped bump drafting and started making him mirror drive. Laps 9 and 10, I continually faked passing him coming out of turns 2 and 4, just trying to get him preoccupied with watching me. Going down the backstretch on the last lap, I really started making him nervous. I pulled to the inside like I was going to pass, he pulls down, I go to the outside, he zags back up. At this point I know I'm in his head. I follow him thru 3, and then to 4. I fake to the outside coming out of 4, and sure enough, he was mirror driving too much and scraped the wall, and by I went on the inside. It was pretty funny because he kept telling me over his mic how people call him the ice-man, lol. Guess he melted, lol.

Racing with Mugen Civics on Tsukuba,me and another guy were pretty even.
He was ahead going into T2 but went a bit wide, I got under him and in T3 over drove it and went into the grass. What happened next was either I passed him there, or I crossed under him and got the inside for the turn before the straight. That was a pretty good battle.

My best overtake was in a dirty shuffle room. it was a full lobby on SSR7. I got put in an underpowered Lamborghini Miura and I was pitted against dodge vipers, cizetas, basically faster and stronger cars.

Midway into the race I managed to catch up to the group up front (about 11 people). all of a sudden a fight between the cars in front breaks out and they are all over the place. the 2nd place car PIT maneuvers the leader and spins out. all the other cars run into the spun out leader. the next thing you know, everyone is spinning out and smoke is everywhere. I weaved my way through and managed to secure 2nd out of 14 people (two of them left). Pretty close call.

I won't lie, I wasn't expecting interesting NASCAR stories. 👍 Of course, being German, I'm not inclined to like the American sports, but, hey, more NASCARs for you, I suppose.

Dirty shuffle room=winning by being the most clean driver. 👍

I've had many of those smoked filled, tire screaching finishes at Daytona. Had some pretty epic finishes there. I've won sideways, backwards, and even upside down, lol.

Okay there, Jarrett (Bristol race?) NASCAR is such an exception to all of our "normal" motorsports.

You can't win if you crash;
You can in NASCAR...
You've got to tune the car to turn equally left and right
Not in NASCAR.

Honestly, I have nothing against you, but, your stories will be completely different, and I'd still enjoy hearing them. 👍

When both drivers are running clean in low powered cars it feels like you're racing BTCC.
Lots of passing zones for such a small track.

And what made it even better was that it was in FM4, and both civics were going up to 9500rpm, it sounded fantastic.

I used to play FM4. I know that they got the sounds right, but, finding clean drivers is such a hassle.

If you avoid the cycled races and go to class only races then it gets better.
Avoid the T1 pile up and everyone is usually pretty good about close, hard, clean racing.

I was in an online drift lobby. I was using my Lexus LFA and they were using a Viper ACR. He said he could beat me on a 1 lap drift around the course (Suzuka east). So we lined up at the start line and did a heads up start. They had a viper, so of course they beat me to the first corner by a substantial amount. After about 3 of the long sweepers I was right inside his door (no taps perfect tandem). Going around the last long corner leading onto the last straight he over rotated and started sliding to the outside. I took my chance and slipped under him. He came back down on me and hit my left rear, sending us both pointing left. He spun completely and I held my drift, going sideways over and over, crossing the line spinning. :dopey: He ending up calling me a 🤬 🤬 for spinning him. No, I passed cleanly for the win and he tried to spin me. 👍 win :sly:

Drifting isn't about speed. The guy's really not talented, if he thinks drifting's the same thing as racing, because it means that he can't do either very well.

It felt like a great win to me, as a viper ACR is MUCH faster than a LFA...also, I rarely drift, so it was nice to have a solid and clean race

I drift on dirt; it's called Rally, and it's very fun.

In honesty, drifting, rally, and racing are fun, and certain techniques ARE interchangeable.

Example:

In a Rolex series race, last season, at Nürburgring GP/F, I was following closely behind a Viper SRT10 Coupe, waiting for a mistake. Going into turn 1, the mistake was made, and the very inside line opened up. I was in an Audi R8 4.2 (AWD,) so I scandinavian flicked the Audi around the first turn. It was sideways, momentarily, but I was able to get alongside the Viper, and used the AWD to pull me out of the corner faster.

Scandinavian flicks are what I used in Rally before. It's now my preferred drift entry, too.

A good example of "rubbin's racin,'" plus my 3-wide pass in the grass. Start at 1:30.

I was racing with some people in a FGT lobby in Spa (quite weird to find) I was 3rd with a guy blocking me at the end of the kemmel straight every lap, but at the same time we were approaching the leader and something like this happened

I won the race the 2nd and 3rd places were praising my move and I was writing "thanks" like a fool

That's one thing that I like about your driving; you know how to use the gaps that are given VERY well. 👍

Again, though, sorry about the thing from karting today. I hadn't seen that Lout was in that battle with the Jr. karts, too. I saw the three Jr. karts, and didn't know that Lout was going to pop-out of the Jr. draft, to pass you, and I bumped him into you. It was my fault, but, only because I thought that everyone in that group was a Jr. kart.

Actually, appearing beside someone, when they think that you're clearly behind them, is an incredible trick to play, so long as they realize that you're there, before they turn in. 👍 on the clean pass. :)

We run a 500pp league with free tire choice, draft set to low and low mech. damage. The races are setup to last 45 minutes.
This race on High Speed Ring had the weather fixed at 100% water and 100% rain.

I was driving the WRX while a friend were on the orange GTR, in the first laps I managed to climb up some positions. After the tunnel I was on 4th place chasing the 3rd. As my car was weaker in straights I had to make use of the draft to overtake the GTR, which happened on the first leg of the S turn. After that I was chased and overtaken in the straight.
When we approach the first turn before the bridge I lost my breaking point and touched the guardrail. 10 laps later I was still in 4th but just 0,5 sec behind him again...but that is another history.

Good over takes at
2:16 - He wasnt making it easy
3:46 - a close call!
6:04 - when the cars ahead get tangled!

I wish I had saved the replay for this, this was back when we all got X1 Vettel's

Me & Joe had a 25 lap duel on Wings of Red Dragon in X1's, Boost on High and Tire Wear on, coming past the pit entrance Joe runs out of fuel and I draft by him and we finish side by side, me barely winning

It wasn't even a trick, I will recreate what happened

''Well, I think I can overtake him.....Why is he swerv- OH 🤬 *swerves to the right*
2nd and 3rd place: OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHH what a nice move, you're the man oh my god!
Me: "

Either way, not bad. I suppose, you were drafting (en la aspiración) behind the other car?

Wow, both 3:46 and 6:04 were absolutely amazing! Great job

One more for the same league as the one cited in my previous post:

The race was at Laguna Seca, 25 laps. I my tires were in a bad shape but by the lap 19 I was in 4th place (golden elise), chasing the 3rd place (red) while the 2nd place (black elise) was not to far ahead.

By the end of the 20th lap, we run into some traffic, two backmarkers also fighting for positions. As all five cars approach the first 2 bends, I missed the braking point and got passed again by the red elise but as I got more traction exiting the 2nd bend, I gained the 3rd place, but lost it again when the blue nsx blocked me on the next turn. It was a nice overtake done by my friend in the red elise.

I just recently acquired a Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4 '11, so I was taking it out online to do some SSRX'ing. I found a room full of Bugatti Veyrons (15 people, about half were in Veyrons). I was in the last turn when the Bugatti in front of a long line of about 4 Veyrons drafting each other figured out that his car couldn't take that turn at 263 MPH, so he pulled the handbrake. Managed to hit the next car, which in turn hit the next, etc. until all 4 were out for the count. I cruised on by at a slow pace, overtaking all four.

I had a similar experience to this. I was enjoying a dirty shuffle race (hey, I like to have non-serious, crazy races every one in a while) and was dead last of about 12 people going into the last lap of a 5 lap race at Tokyo Route 246. And I mean I was waaay behind even the 2nd to last place guy. Through about 2/3 of the lap, I picked up 6 spots due to guys crashing and avoiding said crashes. Meanwhile, I also picked up a bunch of time on the leaders who were beatin' and bangin' headed down to the end. Then all hell broke loose in typical dirty race fashion as all 5 drivers ahead of me wiped out on the last corner. I casually strolled by the inside of the corner and took it to the checkered for the win.

Maybe not exactly great overtaking, but still fun and interesting nonetheless.
