I currently have a 1992 Grey Voyager.
It's the vehicle that has turned me cold towards Mopars.
What has it done to you? The 3.0 6 cyl / 31TH auto drivetrain has never given me a lick of trouble. It was due for some suspension bushings, but the only thing I ever put on that car in 12 years was oil, plugs, and brake pads.

I'd still have the old 'Van if some schmuck hadn't rear-ended me last summer. It was perfect: 90,000 trouble-free miles, garaged for most of its life, clean and shiny inside and out. Not fancy but perfectly suited to its job. It would have lasted another 10 years doing its duty of weekend hauling and long trips, at a cost of almost nothing. That would have meant a chance to buy something really fun for my wife to drive (though she loves the 2.4-swapped Neon).

Instead, the measly insurance check was about 1/3 of the down on the replacement (which is admittedly much nicer, but threw a wrench in my best-laid car buying plans):

you can beat that, if you get an sc300 instead of a skyline you still have money left over for rims and maybe some fuzzy dice.:D

BMW fans will swear there was a 1996 5-series, but there simply wasn't. Anyone who bought a new one in 1996 without a substantial discount was out of their head, and anyone who spends extra on a used one because it's a 1996 rather than a 1995 is just as crazy. They were simply leftover 1995s! They didn't even make any 1996s!

One of the things I like about the 1994-95 (okay, 96) 5-series is that the 530i and 540i (both V8 models) insurance costs are actually significantly lower than the 525i's costs. That says something about your typical 525i driver, and about your typical 530 & 540 driver.

Nevertheless, BMW X5 SPORTS didn't find any documents in his glove compartment because hasn't got one. He's a liar and he's always been a liar and damned if he'll post some pictures to prove us wrong.

But ask me today which I'd pick and I'd choose E34. They were more refined, more comfortable, bigger, etc.

Plus - it's hard to own a reliable E30 today. They're old and they've all been driven pretty hard. Finding a 1-owner E30 with under 100k miles is difficult, unless you're looking for a 325iX, which seem to have been pampered quite a bit more than the normal ones. Even if you do find one, there are no guarantees - BMW wasn't exactly the most reliable maker then, even worse than today.

Who rattled your cage m8, i can see your not all to pleased, well im gettin a digi cam from one of my m8s and ill post my ride soon, so till then keep your cool. And have you seen the amount of really old 5's rollin around(let alone sweet E36s). Most of these owners maintain their vehicles very well. so i disagree with you when you say that you cant find a reliable E30 because ive seen some nice ones around town, maybe you need to get out more. i only agree with you when you say that finding a under 100k mile one is hard, cos mine has clocked up 222873 and others ive seen, have figures over 250k. etc

First car was this bad boy--1985 Honda Civic 4WD--this is before honda real-time, it was a part-time system (in silver w/ bondo on the front 1/4 panel). It was rated at 26 mpg, but I drive it so hard I got as low a 8 mpg once. She had no rev limiter, you could rev it as high as you dared :) Sold it for $110 with a bad starter, guy who bought it fixed the starter and it's still going.

Now I'm driving this--a 1990 Honda Civic (in blue).

D'oh. You are correct. I know E39s started as a MY 97 so I just filled in the gap.

Mine had 132,000 miles on it when I traded it in, and damned if that car wasn't the biggest PITA after 100k. Nickel-and-dimed me to death.

89 Porsche 951...

Gil I had the same experience with a voyager from the early years... My parents car but so bad it turned me off of dodge and to some extent made me suspicious of all the good DSM cars...

M5... I was just wondering what else you know about the 325ix or if you know of some place or site where there is a whole bunch of info on them... Its an interesting prospect for a car for my GF...

It's a 2.2 liter 4cyl. At the time we bought it it was the right price, and fit our needs. I wanted the V-6 but it was quite a bit more expensive.
Anyway, I guess it's 10-12 years of abuse to a vehicle that is much larger than the engine can deal with.
But in it's tenure, it has had a major valve job at 60,000 miles, bottom of the engine rebuilt at a bit over 100k miles, Full blown rebuild at 180,000 miles. At the moment it needs something done to the front end, as it "shimmies" at 37-40 mph, then stops at about 42 mph and is fine the rest of the way up.
It is my son's car now, and we use it for hauling crap. It has been a Godsend for getting the house ready to sell. It has hauled boxes and smaller furniture to the storage bin, and larger trash to the dump.
And after I get my truck (the light at the end of this tunnel:D ), I'll be using the van, or my third son will be using it to transport brothers 4 thru 6 to their respective schools.

BTW, Your Van is a "Sexy Beast" as Vans go.
It is definitely the coolest looking of the "mom-mobiles".👍
Also, if I hadn't just put all that money into the van, I might consider putting a grand into the 'Scort to get it back on the road proper. Right now I'm just hopin' someone will give me 8 bills or so for it, so I don't have to deal with it anymore.

I don't know of any website with much information - Google might turn something up but anything I know of the thing is because I was a big fan of it when it was being produced.

Basically, it was made from 1986 to 1991 and shipped here from 1988 to 1991; there was a 4-door sedan available from 1989 to 1991 in the US but 1988 to 1991 in Canada and there was a coupe available throughout. As I've said it was particularly popular in Northern California, wealthy New England, and Colorado, as is the current AWD 3-series. Prices used tend to be about $6k to about $10k, and automatics are cheaper than manuals.

I don't actually recommend this car - one can pick up a 1996-1999 Legacy GT with 165hp, AWD, decent handling, and near-bulletproof reliability for about $7000 or a 1997-2001 Audi A4 1.8T Quattro for $8k-$19k. There's no reason to go for the older, less reliable BMW just because it's got AWD.

ehhh but you can pick up the ix for about half of what you said... I was thinking about the 91-92 galant as well...

Not in decent condition, and with any E30 3-series the first thing you have to think of - before power, styling, or features - is reliability and maintenance costs. If you want to buy a $3000-$4000 325iX... good luck. It is a decent car, but you can do better for the money.

still have it. it fails californias visual portion of the smog test, but passes the actual sniffer test. awaiting replacement with an earlier round taillight (as pictured) model with a straight body and decent all round. mine had the complete drivetrain, from fan to driveshaft replaced in 99, so its essentially new, especially as its basically been sitting the last few years.

current rides are a saab and a benz.

You got a classic beamer right there, make sure you keep it in tip top condition ;)
