Avenged Sevenfold's Afterlife solo is just epic to me, and also can be noted as one of the most complex solos ever. Despite it only going for around 40 seconds, the speed and complexity of it just makes it my favourite. And the best part is that Syn can actually play this solo live with next to no mistakes! Quite the expert player..


Of course now we go back in time, to the times of Lynyrd Skynyrd, to find a solo that used to be my favourite for many years. Some people may get bored of the solo because it's 3+ minutes long but it's never gonna be boring to me


And now to the very first guitar solo I can remember (praise Guitar Hero) my father showed me Black Sabbath, more specifically Iron Man. That riff and solo will always be with me

Afterlife by Avenged Sevenfold, one of my favorite A7X songs had such a awesome guitar solo. Didn't really bothered about it being only 40 seconds long because it was still awesome by all means.

I got one more. But, it's not really a solo. It's all more or less fills between lyrics. It's Stairway to Heaven, as done by Frank Zappa. How it's done live, and just what it did to the original song is crazy, and it's a fun listen. One of the only two covers I consider better than the original.

....Here's something many Metallica fans may have known about but not actually heard before.

The problem with Metallica is that they have some stunningly composed lead guitar parts that are terribly played. Kirk's vibrato is pretty horrible really, and the beauty of the Fade To Black intro is nigh on ruined by some of the gratingly barren notes as played.

From a guy that wasn't playing guitar, but did position himself within the guitar scene.....



My 80s-ometer melted when it when it processed that cover "art", but damn it's a beautiful piece of music.

...He is limited, granted. I think he knows it too. But I think the materials doesn't necessarily help him out either.
Kirk recorded a single with Carlos Santana a few years ago, and although it's not a rock number, and it wasn't particularly memorable, I felt he expressed himself a little better there.

...Having said that, I actually like Metallica's solo sections, either performed by Hatfield or Hammet. So there you go.

Edit: Ha, look at us, talking like as if we're some bearded music critics. We are here for music, right?

One of those players where your eyes can see his hand trying, but your ears can't hear the right result.

Sometimes it's hilarious watching people with poor vibrato technique - it's like their whole damn body's moving except for the bit that actually matters.
