Your parents' stupid jobs.

My dad works as a salesmen for Office Depot (isnt that exciting) but retired from the military about two years ago after twenty one years of service as an electronics technician...He worked on everything from the first LAN on the NASWI (the base)...That LAN gave birth to monthly LAN parties...Him and his co-workers decided to install the original doom and play...And since they have had monthly LAN parties...ive been going since i was old enough to play...however we have had to stop due to lack of participants remaining in the area :( ...

My mom works as a sales associate for a jewelry store (locally owned) which has serious benefits...Such as massive loads of Belgian (sp?) Chocolate twice a year when her boss goes to Belgium for a diamond show...and the occasional trip to Reno and a week stay in the Reno Hilton for the IJO (International Jewelers Organization) Show...however...despite the efforts of both parents...we (my parents, sister, and i) are still as broke as ever...

This has not affected my Career choice because my current plans (if you were to call them that) is to go to Wyotech and then get a job at a body repair/engine repair shop and slowly build into my own car repair/custumization shop...
 
My Dad is Vice President of my Grandfathers Machine shop, and mom is is somewhere in a morgage company.

But I wouldn't mind working for my dad, its good pay.

My dad is the president of an entrepreneural group, its biggest asset is an in Holland based trucking company, although I'm not sure the group still holds 51%, I know he still covers the CEO position of it. He also works as an outside consultant for companies, he just finished a short stint with Mitsubishi and is now going to re-organise the warehousing and transportation division of a multinational farmaceutical company called Firmenic, among other places its based in Brussels, Zurich and beautiful Geneva.

He's had some succes in real estate in Marbella (Spain) and my hometown, where he still owns several warehouses rented out as office space. And then there's MAA, which is stupid, and I'm not going into further.

My mom grows flowers.

This makes me want to get into business, knowing I could network through my family (so getting a degree in business school should not need to be my highest priority) I deliberately chose to attend the School for Journalism in Utrecht (The Netherlands). Which starts for me in a little under two years.
 
My dad is a real estate agent, and my mom stays at home. It almost makes me want to get into real estate, but there were some pretty rough times before he became successful at it. I suppose it could always be a backup plan.
 
My father was an instrument maker in DuPont's Engineering Physics lab, meaning he designed and fabricated a lot of prototype machines. Extreme-environment prodes and instruments, and other one-offs. Basically he was an engineer without degree who could also do his own fabrication. He could repair anything and scratch-build most things.

He also had a couple of small side businesses, some successful, some not so. His self-serve carwashes put me though private school and college; his model-airplane accessory business made some intersting products but not much money, and his specialty fabrication business helped pay for his own machine shop after he retired.

My mom was always a stay-at-home mother of 4, though she dabbled in a needlework shop as a way of keeping herself busy while enjoying her hobby.

They haven't really influenced my career for good or bad, though they always supported me in choosing it. What mechanical ability I have I got from my father; I only wish I had absorbed more of it before he died.

none of them have influenced my career decisions in any major way. The management part of my degree was only fluke since I wanted to get into a good IT program that wasn't entirely IT oriented. disgruntled employees decided to commit arson at a truck stop my dad owned. When the guy was arrested, he said he didn't know anything and was just following boss'es orders. Racist texas judge decided to give my dad 3 years because he's muslim. Now the fbi is investigating but we got no clue if they'll find anything since they said that the court documents were modified after the trial
 
I'm not entirely sure my mom still has a job, and I don't much care for my dad.
 
My dad's retired, although he was a secondary school (high school) teacher for 40 years, Now he's enjoying the fun of retirement, replete with a hip replacement, two heart attacks, a quadruple heart bypass and two strokes.

Not mine. She was a teacher for 34 years, but currently spends her time dead. She's a stay-at-tree mom - good enough?

both my parent's (divorced since i was like 1 1/2) are accountants, and both with anthropology degrees... :odd: My dad was in AirForce Intelligence before i was even thought about. But the only way their careers have influenced me is that i don't want to do what they do; sit in a damn office all day and type on a computer.

I'm going to school, and will go through Army ROTC and get commissioned into the Active Army as a 2nd Lt. in the Infantry. I'll make a career out of that then dabble in politics.
 
My Dad is an electrician. My Mum works at the local Citizens Advice Bureau.
 
My father is an entrepreneur in construction, and my mom is an administrative assistant. The only influence my partents careers had on my choices would be that my first contact with computers were when my mother brung me with her at work sometimes when I was about 6-7 years old.
 
My dad is a 22+ year Mazda Master Tech here at Lou Fusz. Before that, he worked on other various imports including Fiat, Alfa Romeo, and Saab.
Has that affected me? Ofcourse. Well, a little. Ok, a ton. It's how I got my hobby. It's how I got my job. It's...life.

My mom is an interior designer, but does not work. She worked up til when my brother was born('83), then quit to take care of the family. About 2 years back she started working at Hemispheres, but that place sucks and they claimed that she was taking excessive coffee breaks, when my mom has never ever drunk coffee. They also expected her to climb 20ft ladders to get furnature and stuff down, and the whole environment was filled with stupid bits. Currently she's back to being the house manager here but is looking for an interior design job.
 
my parents are currently in the process of buying a grocery store(the only one in town)so they are up there 16 hours a day. it has effected me by getting me free food :D and i have a job which i totally hate
 
my dad is senior geologist for petro-canada and my mom is a stay at home mom.
 
My dad is an avionics teacher for a college, my mom stays home and stuff.
 
Dad was machine repair at Chevy engine plant and Mom was quality control at Delphi. I'm a design engineer. The only effect it had on my choice of careers was that I knew I didn't want to work in a factory or belong to a union.
 
My father is an art teacher and owns apartments.
My mother is a Human Resources director at a hospital.
 
My Mom is an Accountant, Travel Agent, and Karate Instructor at her own school. My Dad is like an accountant but different (Dont know how to explain it quite right), and he will also teach at the Karate school. My dad can beat up your dad :dopey: .

This has affected me:
A) I dont want to be an accountant or CPA (sp?).
B) I dont want to work around kids (like at Karate).
C) I Dont want to tell people what they should do with their free time (Travel Agent).

Actually, being a Travel Agent could have its advantages, my mom has been on 9 cruises, Ive been on 4, and my family goes on lots of vacations. I just got back from 5 days in Port Royal, for the 4th of july. Fun!

I may be getting a job at Sonic, which sounds kinda fun. I want a new car!

My dad is VP of Marketing at a company called Tollgrade. Before that he was an industrial engineer at Westinghouse/AEG/Cegelac.

My mom used to be a nurse, but she's been staying at home ever since my brother and I were born.
 
My Dad is a 23+ year Air Force Pilot. Currently a Lt. Col. - flying C-17's. He's also a Captain for American Airlines out of NY. My Mom is a Paralegal, or some ****, for some big law firm in downtown Charleston.

It's affected my career choice by... making me want to join the Air Force as soon as I can, and pursue an Airline Career later on in life.

My dad was in the Air Force for 24 years, and when he looks back at it he wishes he had become a pilot.

I think he worked on F15s for a while, then he started doing lots of other junk in offices and stuff, over at Langely AFB.
 
My father works as a quality engineer in Mg Rover group! My mother is a receptionist! Yes it has influenced my career as i am now in an apprenticeship at MG Rover!
 
Mom was a stay-at-home mom, and dad was in charge of the Inland Empire Office of Army Core of Engineers. We moved to the Inland Empire just before his death. Mom lives off his death benefits.

It didn't influence me one bit in becoming a musician, and then a business owner. Duh.
