I just saw pictures on Virtual R and the standard cars look much better than what was shown at E3 and the standard cars dont have blacked out windows any more.

no cokpit for standard cars, not even black framed confirmed by Kaz.

As expected. It simply take too long for PD to even model dashboards for all those cars because even if you didn't model any of the back seats, you'd still have to do the steering wheel, gauges, grill, buttons, badges etc... It was simply too much of a challenge for such a short period of time, so no cockpits for Standards was pretty much as certain as 2+2=4.

Oh well.. Lock?

Wait just a minute. The discussion is about Standards vs Premiums. This means both exterior and interior. Interior has already gone out the window. But what about exterior? Any news on that? Is PD still working on them as we speak? Was the Standards video the final build (even though I have a feeling it is)? Can we still expect some updates such as textured grills now being modelled?

Apparently so, and the last nail in the standard car "cockpit Hope coffin."

Thusfar, I consider this as the only significant dissapointment in GT5.

I guess there had to be one somewhere.

Presumably, this will work to exacerbate the already critical attitudes of the "standard car" issue.

EDIT:

Sorry, but I don't agree at all. Cockpits like skidmarks are the "standard" in todays racing games and it is still difficult to believe they will not be part of 800 cars in the "real driving simulator" even if on the PSP level.

Man, I really wish there was no Kart and no track-editor and no B-spec maneger but cockpit for standard cars. :ill:
Is there a possibility we can get 800 cockpits with DLC??? Don´t think so.

But every other aspect of GT5 is so great!!

kinda bad ratio i hope at least 50% but only 200 cars sigh.. anyway focus on good things. but honestly it still bugs me

Only 200? Lol. Be honest, how many are you going to actually be driving on a regualar basis. On top of that, why cant your drive the other tier.. just because its not over the top photorealistic? I agree only 20% with cockpit seems like a small % on its own if the car count was somewhere around 150 cars, but we have 1000+ cars, 200 cars is a very large ammount. And this is comming from someone who uses cockpit view as their #1 choice.

I am all for DLC after the release. Theres no worrie this time all PS3's have a hard drive. Just release what you have now and add to it later. As long as they get the important parts right before release. Dont know about you guys but i dont love the GT seriers because it has 5 gazzillion cars, i love it because in my opinion it has the best driveing model out there. So get that right give us say 20-50 cars then add/fix everything else after. really whats wrong with that? Now that said the more of the DLC we get as a patch and not pay to play the better.

I don't think we will see all 800 get cockpits via DLC, but what we may be asked by PD to vote on a selection of cars that deserve cockpits? So in time we say see a substantial number of cars with added interiors.

I like that idea! I would prefer they didnt waste there time with some of the dumb cars that make it in to GT. if given the choice between the cockpit of a new camero or a dodge caravan im going with the camero:) not that i would never drive the minivan, just could care less if it had a cockpit view.

I agree, this is a longer shot in my mind than getting them to start with.

But who knows, maybe it will be DLC possibility.

We do have one more expo to come, the Tokyo Game Show, at which we'll undoubtedly get more news. Since Kaz hasn't discussed a number of topics yet, such as the details of just what we can do with the Standard cars, there is still a lot to look forward to. There are still tracks to be revealed - Kaz hinted at new fantasy tracks in his interview, and what's going to be improved with the new Race Mod. Since it looks like the Livery Editor has to wait till GT6, this is what has my attention. If we can make our own WRC, Super GT and DTM cars among others, this is going to be a nice door prize.

I dont believe we will get cockpits for standards as part of DLC's.
If they do cockpits or when they do for Standards they would leave all of them for GT6 (as he already mentioned that Karts were for GT6, which means they are already planning for it)

Yes im very dissapointed about no cockpit view for standards... it will no dobut reduce the depth of the feel of driving for me however as long as they still hold their own in photo mode and replays, they may still capture my love for driving them.

I just hope we get improved exteriors on the cars. So far little improvements have been shown. Just hope TGS will reveal updated Standard Cars with better exterior modelling.

No...

There is still much more to speculate about regarding differences between standard and premium. My interests lie in the differences in modification / parts / tuning options.

what you said +100:tup: I played GT5p recently using G25 setup on a proper Racing seat and stand and to use anything but cockpit view to me felt lame!

I am hugely dissapointed by the no cockpits for the standard cars. Theres no excuse for it, time least of all!!
If they didnt spend so long modeling the wires under the dashes of premium cars, parts that no-one will ever see, then they'd have extra time.
I love the detail in the Jag engine or the Muira wheel, bet again sacrificing a small bit of that detail would have given time, out of the nearly SIX years now.
Its really bad time management, they should have worked on the interiors of the other cars before going to town on those insane details.
Kaz says hes dissappointed about them not being included..... The Jag and P4etc. are some of his favourite cars, he only cares about this game for what he'll drive in it. Thats why he spent so much time on the likes of these cars rather than lets say a B6 Audi S4 or 06 Polo GTi, or the Playstation Pescarolo R8 LMP (Which was shown to be a standard car), the later a car that surely desereves to be modeled to perfection....instead.....we get.....A FIAT 500!!!!(Actually we get two premium slots wasted on the 500 and another one on the Prius.)
I'm worried that we've yet to see any footage of the standard cars(in action, not including that hideous trailer a while back)
Is it that the R8 LMP will look so bad and unfinished next to the P4 that they dont want to include it where reviewers will see it?

Interiors are the standard, Forza and NFS (with their flaws) have cockpits and thy're games come out far quicker than any GT game. I dont care about any excuses like outsourcing, or theres a dial that doesnt move, or they dont look all that perfect. They have interiors!!! End of, and GT5's MAJORITY does not.
If PD did'nt have enough staff to deal with this, it should have become apparent very early on. They've got to have known this for ages, but even now they would'nt dare outsource and at least get the numbers of interiors up.

DLC is'nt going to be the Saviour for GT5's standard cars, or any other shortcomings. DLC costs money, why should we, having waited for so long and put up with so much utter crap along the way, shell out even more hard, earned for something that should be in the box when you bring it to the till.
GT5 should not be given exception for bad implimentation, no more that Forza, NFS, GRID, Dirt etc. etc. and God knows they get jumped on for anything minor!!
Whos to say we even get much DLC for GT5, I remember way back when we were supposed to be getting lots of DLC support for GT5:P, we got some videos and a coulple of extra cars.....WOW!
At the moment I view DLC as nothing more than Kaz's go-to statement whenever hes asked about something not in the game.....eg. We are thinking abount implementing this, its something we've thought about....or its maybe something DLC will help us with at a later stage, maybe possibly we'll consider thinking about it if it would improve the racing experience.

I reckon cockpits are something that are guaranteed to improve the experience.

All that aside I am honestly looking forward to this game, but I was slightly crushed by the confirmation about standard cockpits.
I mean the premiums do look mind-blowingly fantastic, but everytime I look at the engine of the P4 or Jag or the Miura's wheels, I'll know thats where the interiors of my S4 and R8 LMP went.

^^ Couldn't agree more. (Didn't want to quote all that though.)

It's an example of poor time management, as the above poster said so well.

Fiat's? Dashboard wires? Really?

This basically means that, since I've grown so fond of, and accustomed to, using the cockpit view on each and every car, from GT5P, a huge chunk of the material in GT5 won't be touched by me.

Unfortunate, to say the least. :(

In general I agree with SniperSight in that too much time has been lost on details that most people will never see, but I strongly disagree that only supercars/sports cars should have been Premiums. It was never meant to be that way.
Actually I'm happy that after all there is quite some balance between fast and slow (someone would refer them as "crappy". I don't) cars.
