Started typing this yesterday, and don't know what happened. Anyways, I had headed over to Massey Cadillac to look at the STS. But I eventually ended up looking at a CTS. As some of you know, I absolutely distaste the front end on it and would never want one.

However, that was before I saw a model in Black Cherry with a CTS-V-like grill. Completely changed the whole look off the inset grill. Eventually, I sucked it up and got a test drive in one. HOLY FREAKIN' COW! If there is one thing the CTS does well, it is hitting 80 on the freeway without you knowing it. I wasn't even anywhere near flooring the accelerator, and here I was at 70Mph! The car is just really fast. :eek: 1 of the other surprises is how incredibly smooth it is. Anyone who has driven the LBJ Freeway by Massey (and JCE might know) should know how bad a condition it's in, worse that it's under construction. But the CTS just glided over everything. Well, except some old train tracks.
Getting a chance to floor the car for once (as someone was merging into my lane next to me and being an idiot!), you can really hear the V6!

After all that was said and done, I was really impressed. So, I have to say, I take back everything bad I've said or thought about the new CTS. YSSMAN was right, this is a fantastic car. Do I think the grill is still butt ugly? Yes. Will I consider the CTS anyways? Hell yes. 👍

Regarding the latter portion of your statement, everything I've heard about the CTS says it's a fantastic car. Except for those cheap plastic interior bits.

I didn't say anything about others saying that. But regardless of whether others said that, I'm right - those signal stalks, gauge binnacles, power window switches... they are cheap, or else they wouldn't be used on just about every GM vehicle north of the Aveo.

Wait, I don't understand. Let me reiterate.

1. I didn't say anything about other people saying that. Regardless of whether others said it or not, that doesn't mean it's not true!
2. If they're used on the (outgoing) Malibu and the Colorado, as they are, they cannot objectively be expensive... unless Chevrolet was using expensive stuff on those vehicles, which we all know they aren't.

Matt, when Doug assesses that Sol for me he'll truly understand what cheap plastic interior bits are. So then maybe he'll rethink the fact that everyone knows he said the CTS has cheap plastic interior bits.

Such pictures are impossible to come by - and the CTS's looks slightly altered from the Trailblazer's, like its steering wheel. It still takes the same cheap appearance and flimsy feeling, no doubt. The windows switches and gauge binnacles are pulled straight off other GM vehicles if the signal stalk is not.

For the record, I love the new CTS, I'm just still not totally convinced. I consider myself to be a prospective buyer in this segment and for right now, I think the CTS is very near the top of my list, just not at the top. That said, the other day I was driving at night and a new CTS in full spec came towards me. It was so obvious that it had so much more presence than any Infiniti G35 could ever have...

I don't know. I like the styling, I like the (reports of) the handling, but the interior isn't quite up to class leaders, and I think a few too many new CTS models are getting absorbed into fleet sales. I'd love to drive one, but as a rule I'm not a huge fan of how domestic cars drive.

I don't want to be that guy who says "I told you so," because that would be douchy, but I really do want to push the fact that GM CAN make wonderful cars when they put their minds to it, and God I hope this is the start of something great.

I still haven't had an opportunity to drive one (being *almost* 21, I doubt it for a while), but sitting in one, I was simply shocked by how nice it was. I personally would rate the interior as high as that of the new C-Class, and thats a statement that has been reflected more than once in other magazines and websites, but thats obviously up to personal standards as well.

If I had the cash, it would probably be second on my list for cars this size. I'm still waiting for the Pontiac G8 GT, which is just such an outrageous deal for a little over $30K. But when you see more and more new CTS' around, well, you really start to want one. I even drove by a stripped-out FE1 CTS with the "regular" LY7 and the small alloy wheels and it still looked good.

I just love this car so much, and I'm so happy that others are drawing the same conclusions.

So, the CTS actually withstood 635? That's a miracle in itself. In my Camaro it always feels like the "world is coming to an end"--which is an inside joke among my friends anyway (about the 'maro). But seriously, I've taken BMW's down 635 that almost broke my back because of the harsh ride of the suspension and the fact that LBJ has to be the worst place to drive in the metroplex.

Oh and as for this super secret CTS you drove with this assumingly awsome grille...I say...

I haven't seen any C-Class interior besides the C350 Sport, and the CTS wasn't quite as nice. But it was certainly smoother.
After the CTS drive though, I really want to see if you're right about G8 as well. But no dealer has one. :indiff:

I'm also surprised you of all folks, haven't gotten a chance yet to drive it. :eek:

I found it shocking it withstood 635, yet some ol' train tracks really rattled the car. As for the BMW, I've never taken mine down 635 (and never will), but I'm sure the highway can rattle anyone in any car.

You'll have to wait, although I didn't actually test drive the Black Cherry model. I test drove what I believe the dealer called Sunset Blue. The grill just made the car look a whole lot nicer, but if you want an idea of what it looked like, just imagine the CTS-V's mesh grill....

I think it really changes it up, although the inset grille is still nasty.
 
Speaking of the CTS, I saw one today behind me in traffic. It looks simply stunning among all the small European cars. Had the same kind of reaction when I first saw a 300C on the road.

The 08 model you just posted doesnt look nice though.

Thats what I've been thinking. Maybe I'm overestimating Harvey Cadillac, they might let me take one for a spin, but you never know. When I told the guy at the Chevrolet dealer that I do a lot of writing about cars on the internet he was happy to throw me the keys... Maybe they'll do the same?

I should probably wait until I get my 21+ license in the mail.
 
I'd imagine that if I borrowed Grandpa's Yukon they'd let me take one out for a spin, but a semi-worn Jetta won't likely do it.

The Chevy guys were all over me when I pulled-up in the W-Body, its a pretty good sign of company loyalty I suppose.

It's better looking than any Lexus, cheaper than any German luxo-sedan, and is bigger than any comparably priced RWD sports sedan. How is this a rental car formula?

OH WAIT. It's american, so It MUST be some sort of rental mobile that only geriatrics will buy until they themselves disintegrate.

My comment wasn't intended to be negative to the CTS. I worked at Enterprise this summer. We rented the CTS.

Read this post and then try to calm down before replying again.
 
Sorry. I'm sorta tired and such. I guess I'm used to having to defend American cars.
