Zero Cup: zero tuning (PS4) - STOPPEDPS4

Well I must say, after a quick 30mins (followed later by 3hrs!!!) i am very impressed, and now looking forward to some online racing amongst friends.
For some reason though, i keep thinking back to a game i played for a while on the Xbox, called RacePro. not sure what it is that's reminding me of this game mind :odd:.

I did experience some behaviour that i didn't understand. When running in quali the car felt very planted (for the record I was running the Fiat 500 AC @ Mugello), and stable. But as soon as I was in the race, that all disappeared! The car became very skittish and quite a lot more prone to lift of over steer. Which in itself is no problem, i would expect the car to behave this way, but why the difference between the two sessions?

Also I managed to run a couple of races online through my phone, it seemed to hold up OK, however i'm not sure how i appeared at the other end of the line.. I could have been bouncy around like a Yorkshire terrier on speed!
@WarriusZero please can you give me some feedback on my connection performance, next time we are on together 👍

Anyway, here's hoping for the patch to arrive soon and fix up the game a little more.

Could the difference be the amount of fuel on board?
And yes, I'll feed back.

Yes I was running complete stock setup, so maybe there is a difference in fuel loads between quali and Race, though tbh I hadn't looked.
Or... Does the time of day (I'm thinking weather conditions) change between the two sessions, again I hadn't noticed or looked, but thinking this may play a part!

Think fuel remains same @ stock 30L, don't think track conditions change fixed for duration, l thought l noticed the 2nd lap on quali the grip dropped off but put it down to pushing slightly to hard.

Ok, so the wife is working nights... which means i'll be racing through the night!

If anyone is around and wants to try some AC online, let me know here or buzz me on PSN.
Failing any attendance, I may end up on GT6 again! (still loves this game)

On a side note, I was comparing the X-bow between AC - PCARS - GT6 yesterday. to be honest, i'm quite surprised by my feelings!

I should be about need to learn tracks and to drive! Time wise what is night driving? lntrigued on the feelings?

I'm up for this. I'm a clean driver with consideration for others and have had some good races with randoms the past few weeks.
Did run into one griefing asshole called bd03ben who waited for us to come round so he could **** the front up.
Crazy how bad some drivers are that can't even drive in a straight line. I guess lots use controller as seen by the juddery steering wheel once I preview them after finishing.
I use g29, I know it's not the best but it does the job nicely anyway.

Hi Marco, wheel/pad war looming

We need to know more about these feelings.

Not really linked to the AC-ZeroCup, but i'm willing to share.

I know everyone has (and is entitled) to there own thoughts/feelings so this is not me saying one is better than t'other!

But i honestly feel that GT6 still stands up pretty well against the likes of these next gen "PC" sim games! if we put aside all the feelings and complaints about bugs / online / connection issues etc. and just look at how the game feels and plays on its own
I still come back to GT6 as one that ticks the most of the boxes for me. Yes, sounds can be alot better, and thats probably the biggest criticism I would throw at GT6 considering the console its on! But i still love the handling model, i don't think/feel that AC & PCARS are that far ahead of GT.

from my comparison though, these are my thoughts

GT6 - the game I have the most attraction to (No,not like that!), I probably find it the most playable too! I can read the handling to the point where, I can pick out under & Over steer, wheel lock ups (running without ABS) and the balance of the car. Graphically it has poor AA in comparison (but we are not comparing apples to apples here!), car model wise they still look convincing enough! its also the game i've had some of my most enjoyable and memorable races. I recall several "Parity" races with @BrandonW77 where we had similar cars but setup differently, with different strengths but the battle for position was epic fun.

PCARS - feels the most dynamic and lively when driving. Probably the best sounds overall too! The track selection gives it kudos over the others, but its probably the game I have found the most frustrating
I really wanted to love and play the heck out of it, but i always find myself feeling disconnected to the handling, be it due to practically zero feel for the front tyres, or (and lets not go into it) the complex tuning & settings per car! Don't get me wrong I enjoy tuning cars and playing with suspension settings etc. but this was just...:banghead:

AC - has the best wheel feel & force feedback, but as a game the more I play the more it feels like a tech demo! (keeps reminding me of RacePRO! :odd:), to be clear i am still enjoying the game, and I will tend to look past the bugs and small issues if i'm still able to get on track and have a blast. There is still a lot of polishing that needs to be done (but doubtful this will ever happen), but confident this game will give me more pleasure that PCARS.

So my overall thoughts, PCARS gets a pass because the game has paid for itself (early access dev program ;)) but frequently left on the shelf, AC gives me hopes and dreams of something better/that could be.
But, GT(S)eries is where my excitement really lies.

I think this opinion is because the importance to me is the enjoyment in the game overall (lets call it, it's soul!), and not just about the technical capabilities.
I've had the chance to play GTS at EGX this month, and with this in mind i'm very excited about what this title will bring.
Sorry if I sound like a GT fan boy, but i do approach each with an open mind.

So do i take from this that I'm a SimCade gamer at heart!!!

I'll be on tonight after 8pm, and possibly on until around midnight.
BIG DISCLAIMER... I am using my phone for connection, so if i'm bouncing around please let me know.

Respect the opinion, tell me what was ffb like on gts.

After a few months of being in PC-land I went back to try GT6 a few times and the new perspective made me realize how many things GT actually got right. It still has issues and problems and terrible offline racing but there's a lot of stuff crammed into that game and some of them you don't find on PC. Setting up and running online races in GT is miles and miles better than how things work on PC (granted I've only raced online in AC, R3E, and IR). Unfortunately the screen tearing and fps drops were the nail in the coffin for GT for me, I was never bothered by them when that's all I played but after having rock solid 60fps and no tearing it's hard to deal with.

And yes, even on PC Assetto still feels a bit like a robust tech demo. The things it does do it does very well but there's a lot of room for improvement in terms of features and functions and bells/whistles. Sadly advancement in those areas has been very slow, there have been improvements and additions but it's literally one guy in charge of developing and coding all that stuff so it's slow going (and he can be a bit stubborn about adding things that are asked for). It's a great foundation to build from and has the potential to be a really great sim but I think it will be a while before it reaches that level on PC and/or consoles. Luckily spending a couple hours just driving various cars around the Nords is sublime enough to make me temporarily forget most of the short-comings.

Sorry to hijack, just giving a bit of insight from a long-time GT player who's crossed over to the dark side. Despite my years of criticizing GT and PD I've come to realize that they actually got a lot of things right and PC sims could learn a thing or two from them. 👍

I agree about the force feedback in this game it just makes it so much fun and the physics. I think the game is pretty piss poor at the moment with it's issues and all but simply for the most important thing which is the driving itself makes this game worth it.

Respect the opinion, tell me what was ffb like on gts.

Well, from the little time I had (theres another story there too!), And please appreciate that I ran it in the setup for demo purpose, so I would strongly believe it has all assist on!
My simple thought was, this feels very familiar (GT6) but better, as it felt more feedback was coming from curbs and road. All good things, if you take into account my feelings on GT6

Now the difference could be the wheel, a T300 where I use a T500. Or just a placebo from the excitement of finally playing the game. Which I must say was miles better than GT6, and probably will look the better than PCARS & AC.

But I'm very pleased with what I saw and felt, and heard ;).
Oh and PSVR is freaking awesome!!!

Rigt, enough of the distraction. Time to set up for AC. Who's coming?

Am I right in thinking that all the open/public lobbies are predetermined by AC (i think i'm right on this part at least), but are they also a always the same, and not randomly generated?

If so, then we should be able to establish a list and go from there? We can also see what parameters are open or locked down right?

l think that the rooms are predetermined a certain amount of each as there are always empty rooms at list bottom. The tracks are always the same with car combo.

Edit: You should be able to run a 5 lap race @ nordschielfe in the vintage 595.

Actually, no, as it is, you can't run the Vintage 595 at Nordscheleife. Only at Vallelunga.
There are 45 different events set up at the minute, from my investigation. I'm building up a spreadsheet with the different combinations. The data is done but I need to make it easy to use.

By the way, on the 3rd October, I'm planning on racing the Escort MkI at Brands Hatch. I was going to go for the 595 but the Escort is just that little bit quicker and makes it a bit more fun. We'll race the 595 another time.

I'm guessing the Japanese pack is coming next week so there should be more options shortly. I respect anyone's choice not to buy the DLC, tho, just let me know if it'd be a problem.

Surely there will be some MX-5 Cup, which could become a recurring thing.

On another note, I'm going to edit the original post with the important data put together.

So... Who is racing in here tonight?

I have some fatherly duties to attend to first, which will certainly stop me from being in the room any earlier than 8pm (sorry guys)

But I would hope to be there for start, if only by a cats whisker!

Catch you laters

l shall be there, the tyres seem to go of a bit sudden after about 6 laps?

Sorry for being slightly disorganised but I'm juggling with a lot at the minute. In short:

- We're racing the Escort at Brands Hatch.
- There will be a qualifying session for race 1. In theory it's the last one, even going into next week
- There will be 3 races, more if it goes fast. Length determined by the game
- There will be a manual grid for race 2 and 3
- I'll keep track of the results and will give points accordingly. Same system as the old ZC (14, 12, 10, ...)
- I will issue an invite to the lobby once I join it

Note: I've sent an event invite to 10 people and we can only have 8 so the slowest 3 will miss out (on the audio, mostly...). Accept the event invite if you plan on joining.
Note 2: I haven't done any testing regarding tyre wear.
Note 3: if we were to be more than 8, it's still possible to join the lobby!!

So did you learn anything in the name of science? l did.

Yes. I must now be looking like the worst online player for kicking so many people.
Also trying to do a reverse grid is a chore.
And then we shouldn't kick everyone because we met quite a few good players tonight, that was ace. I'm thinking about @SW__10 and Kappellic... and standard_something but I already forgot his name. (edit: Standard_control!)
And finally, we definitely don't need to have the same car to enjoy ourselves.

I'm glad Warrius sent me the invite the other day, you seem like a good bunch to race with. Guess I'll start to stick around more on gtplanet aswell now. Didn't even buy GT6 and haven't been here much the past few years but GTS coming which I'll get so it's good to know more GTP members to race with that have respect when racing.

Thanks both of you.

We've actually learned much more than what I've described above.
Sorry, I'm still finding my marks so I'll be changing a lot of stuff tomorrow. But I'm getting there.
I need to sleep on it now.

What I know now is that we need to keep it simple.
