Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races: Tuner, No Crust

Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races have updated on their usual schedule, bringing a fresh set of three events for the week — and you might need some tuning know-how to get the best results.

That won’t be the case in Race A which remains its usual one-make road car race. Once again, you’ll also find that Driver Rating updates are turned off for the race, so you won’t enjoy any gains from good results or losses from poor ones — but be aware that Sportsmanship Rating updates are still enabled.

For this week’s race you’ll need a Maserati MC20 — and again you can either borrow a car for the race or use your own — equipped with Sports Hard tires. This mid-engined supercar is a relatively recent addition, coming in August 2023, but went somewhat under the radar as it arrived at the same time as a 160hp ambulance

You’ll be driving the V6, twin-turbo MC20 around the Red Bull Ring, for a fairly standard five-lap blast, with no fuel, tire, or strategy concerns, so just go out and have fun. Just don’t stack it; the MC20 is far too pretty, and it will put a dent in your SR too.

Races B and C this week employ a broader spread of tuning possibilities than in previous weeks, opening up a new category for adjustment. That may mean consulting GTPlanet’s Gran Turismo 7 Car Tuning forum for setups or a strategy.

In both races you’ll be able to adjust the Brake Balance Controller at any point during the race and, as in some previous events, set up the car’s suspension with anti-roll bar, damping (compression and extension), and natural frequency settings. This week you’ll also have access to the car’s differential settings, with initial torque and acceleration and braking sensitivites all adjustable.

That should all be of relatively minimal effect in Race B, which is a sprint race for Gr.3 cars at Laguna Seca. You can select any of the Gr.3 cars, which are broadly equivalent to the real-world GT3 category and all rear-wheel drive.

It’s a simple enough six-lap blast at the Californian circuit, with the only consideration being the fitment of the slowest, Racing Hard tires.

Race C is a more complex affair this week and might throw up a few curveballs. You’ll be heading up the coast to the fictional Grand Valley Highway 1 location, but that’s only the start of it.

Firstly, this nine-lap race will be running at the reverse layout of the full course, which will be unfamiliar to many and could catch a lot of people out without some practice — especially as the first big braking point is the slowest corner on the track.

Additionally the race is for the Gr.4 category of car. This GT4-like class in the game allows for not just rear-wheel drive cars but front- and all-wheel drive, and that will mean that the differential settings could dramatically change the usual pecking order — especially as some cars will have them available on both axles.

There’s also a potential strategic element here as there’s two permitted tire grades, one of which is mandatory. You’ll need to use the slower Racing Hard grade at some point during the race — you’ll collect a one-minute penalty if you fail to do so — while the Racing Medium is also available as an option.

If that wasn’t quite enough, fuel consumption may also come into play for thirstier cars, with the fuel use multiplier set at 7x. That’s the equivalent of 63 laps for a tank, and the pit lane time loss is not kind…

In order to access the Daily Races, you’ll need to unlock Sport Mode, by completing Menu Book 9 (“Championship: Tokyo Highway Parade”) in the GT Cafe single player hub.

With GT7’s Daily Races updating every Monday across the game’s life to date, the next new set should arrive on Monday January 22.
