Why a Toyota Ambulance is Gran Turismo 7’s Hottest New Car

Although the Toyota Himedic has only been available — and in an extremely limited fashion — for just over a day, it’s one of the most popular vehicles for players to create liveries that we’ve seen in GT7’s lifetime to date.

Technically arriving in update 1.36 earlier this month, the Toyota Himedic Ambulance is not yet accessible in the game through normal means. In order to acquire it for your garage you’d need to have watched this weekend’s Gran Turismo World Series Showdown Nations Cup through GT7 itself before Sunday August 13.

If you’ve missed out, you’ve got one further chance to win the ambulance by watching the stream — even for a second, although it was an interesting race should you choose to watch more — before 2359 UTC on Sunday August 20. It will then appear in your Garage/Gifts section on Monday August 21.

The addition of the ambulance has certainly been divisive, with reactions ranging from the profanely negative to the joyous. Without a doubt it’s one of the oddest cars ever to appear in the series, which is an impressive bar to clear with previous games including drag cars, a tank-engined hot rod, a laser-powered concept, a literal moon buggy, and the first car ever made.

It’s actually pretty nice to drive (especially in VR) and even though it doesn’t have an engine swap just yet it does tune up well with 600PP possible. However it seems the most popular use for the ambulance is as a canvas for liveries, with over 15 pages of them created so far.

We’ve picked out some of our favorite creations for the ambulance, which naturally includes some emergency vehicles from around the world, a Gran Turismo classic, and a bona fide movie star: have no fear, Him is here…
