Gran Turismo 7 Weekly Challenges: Slipstream Extreme

The latest new set of Gran Turismo 7 Weekly Challenges is beginning to pop up on consoles around the world, replacing the old ones when your own console clock passes midnight on Friday morning, bringing fresh events including a rarely seen event type and some of the new game content from the 1.67 update.

Weekly Challenges were added back in November 2023, and is essentially a special bonus event for players who’ve finished the main GT Cafe mode. Each week there’s five different challenges, four of which are standard race events from World Circuits along with a fifth Special Event, created just for the week. Since the Spec III update this one may be another, themed race, or a time trial or mission-type challenge.

As the name suggests, you’ll have seven days to complete the five challenges and you’ll collect bonus rewards for doing so in this window. This offers a little extra incentive to complete some of the races you may have missed in the Cafe, along with new content and races introduced in recent updates.

Gran Turismo 7 Weekly Challenges – February Week 2 Events

European Sunday Cup 400 – Watkins Glen

The lowest-paying race this week isn’t a bad payout at 38,000cr for winning a three-lap race of the Watkins Glen Short Course. As a round in the European Sunday Cup 400, you’ll need a road car from a European manufacturer for this one but don’t worry about the “400” part: that’s just a suggested Performance Point (PP) value for a competitive race against the lead AI.

Special Event – 24 Heures du Mans Circuit

A blast from the past comes up in the Special Event slot this week, with a Mission-type event that calls back to Gran Turismo 4. It’s a slipstream battle on the 24 Heures du Mans Circuit (Circuit de la Sarthe as it was then) featuring the Renault Avantime. You’ll need to stick close to the brick-shaped cars ahead of you, ducking out of the slipstream only to pick it up from the next car as you try to wind the oddball MPV up to 142.9mph to score the gold, without contacting any of the other vehicles. There’s only a one-time reward of up to 40,000cr for this one, with 8,000cr for a bronze pace, another 12,000cr for a silver, and the 20,000cr top prize.

Japanese Clubman Cup 550 – Grand Valley South

Another (region, level, PP) event is up next with the Japanese Clubman Cup 550. As above, the “550” part is immaterial, as you only need a road or Tuned car from a Japanese manufacturer for this one. It’s four laps of the reworked Grand Valley South circuit (a pale shadow of the old East course it’s based on), with a 55,000cr prize for victory.

World Touring Car 600 – Nurburgring

Both of the final events offer up 115,000cr for taking the win, and we’ll start with the World Touring Car 600 race. PP limits do come into play now, with this one requiring cars to be at or below the 600PP cap but they can be any type of car in any state of tune. It’s a two-lap race around the Nurburgring Nordschleife which was added in the 1.67 update, and there’s a couple of fierce opponents in this one that don’t seem to have read the rulebook on the whole Performance Point front.

Gr.1 Prototype Series – Daytona

Finally there’s a ten-lap race at Daytona’s Road Course in the Gr.1 Prototype Series, and again don’t worry about the name here. Gr.1 cars are not required, as anything up to the 950PP maximum may take part as long as it’s on Racing Tires. Watch out for high tire wear and fuel consumption in this one; picking a car that can sip its way round without troubling the lower reaches of the tire gauge so you can dodge the pits will just about guarantee victory and the aforementioned 115,000cr.

Weekly Challenges offer you bonus rewards, alongside the prize money for the events themselves, that increase in value as you complete more of them. The precise bonuses change most weeks, but are always sent as tickets to your Garage’s Gifts section, and you’ll to need to redeem them before they expire.

We’ve got credit tickets in the first two slots this week, with the event offering up the usual 100,000cr ticket for completing any one event and 200,000cr ticket for finishing any three. The top prize this week, for clearing the full set, is a Six-Star Roulette ticket, which offers a Brand Central car worth 480,000cr or more or two possible cash rewards: 500,000cr or, less likely, 1,000,000cr.

In order to have access to the Weekly Challenges you’ll need to have completed GT Cafe Menu Book 39 and watched the ending movie. The events update at midnight local time on Friday mornings, so we’d expect the next set of the new-look events on the morning of Friday February 13.
