Nailing The Authenticity in TT Isle of Man: Ride on The Edge

One of the more intriguing titles due to release this year is Kylotonn’s TT Isle of Man: Ride on The Edge. Focusing specifically on the famous eponymous event, the team is looking to recreate the most authentic TT experience yet. A new developer diary highlights the steps being taken to make the game as impressive as possible.

The Scenery and Details of Snaefell Mountain

The Snaefell Mountain Course is considered one of the most difficult rides in motorbiking. Those familiar with the track will know all about its many gradient and camber changes that push drivers to the edge. However, the TT experience is just as much about the scenery as the track itself and Kylotonn is eager to nail this.

The track and surrounding details have all been recreated accurately, according to the video. The ultimate goal is for this level of polish to go hand-in-hand with the gameplay and offer an accurate rider experience. Every last aspect of the track seems to have been taken into account — right down to the placement of nearby road signs. If it’s in the real life TT, it’s likely to be in this game.

Tackling The Technical Challenge

Kylotonn has taken on quite the task in recreating the Isle of Man TT. Throughout the ages there hasn’t been a title as realistic as this tackling of the track. The closest in recent memory was TT SuperBikes on PlayStation 2 — quite some time ago. The technological advances since then mean that Ride on The Edge looks to take the experience to the next level.

The 38-mile TT offers something that can’t be found in titles like MotoGP. Whilst traditional circuits found in that series rely on expertly kept circuits, Isle of Man is different. Aspects like road deformation and elevations changes are part of the overall package, contributing to the feel of the track.

A combination of photo taking and laser scanning were used to capture the track’s authenticity. Interestingly, this approach allowed the team to see parts of the track which are considered scenic spectator and rider hotspots. Expert information fed in by the Isle of TT organizers also helped this process.

The video also contains some new gameplay footage, so its worth a watch. Compared to the other racing games coming out this year, Ride on The Edge offers something truly unique for motorcycling enthusiasts. The title is due for release this November, launching on Xbox One, PS4 and PC. If you’ve ever wanted to experience the Isle of Man TT, this might be worth a look.
