Need For Speed v1.01 Brings New Cars, General Fixes

Need For Speed launched at the beginning of the month to generally favourable reviews. In GTPlanet’s own review, the game’s limited customization features and the AI rubber-banding were two of the standout criticisms. The first patch, released last week, specifically addresses both of those issues, as well as adding more content to the game, free of charge.

First and foremost are the two new Icon vehicles. Joining the two existing Porsche 911’s (both Magnus Walker’s narrow-hipped “277”, and Nakai-san’s wide-bodied RWB monster), Ken Block’s insane, 845hp, all-wheel-drive “Hoonicorn” Mustang should provide players with just the sort of tool they’ll need to create their own gymkhana videos, while Morohoshi’s Diablo arrives with the outrageous neon lights it’s (in)famous for.

The paint editor has been comprehensively improved as well. Colours and materials both now feature presets and usage histories, making it easier to select previously-used colours to match existing design elements. There’s also numerical values for the colours, further helping the painters in the community get precisely what they want out of the editor. Mercifully, decal mirroring is now available for the sides of the car, as well as the side windows.

  • REP Level cap increased from 50 to 60.
  • Daily Challenges rebalanced.
  • 3 new Trophies/Achievements.
  • 30 new pre-set wraps, available across numerous cars.
  • General bug fixes, tweaks, and improvements.

    The best NFS was only one: FIRST game. It was amazing, it was real, graphics and physics – nothing came close. It was like Gran Turismo 1. From the second version, everything went downhill. Not even close

      “Persistent online connection needed to play” = worst NFS ever.
      I guess I’m old school and just want a game you can put in and play!

      I don’t care much for arcadey games either. But a lot of people do. Plus, no game is ‘real’. They are all, basically, fake. Some are more realistic than others, but certainly far from real. I would be willing to bet the GT academy champions could vouch for that

      @Benny44 if the game’s intention is to simulate reality, that’s what i call ‘real’. The only reason it’s not 100% accurate is because of technical limitations. But intention is there and you feel simulation physics. If the game is arcade, you can easiliy notice that and such games are made un-real on purpose. And that’s just vomit inducing product.

    This game is quite a blast. The story is a little bit short though, but with the massive map, there is a lot of things to do. For instance, if you are dedicated enough, you could make your own gymkhana route. Stuff like that.

    Need for speed is always a good time for a couple hours. I always have a blast with these games for about a week then never play them again

      NFS used to be good games in the early years. It’s a shame what EA made out of the series after NFS:PU… I never touched it again and focused on sim racing.

      Yeah. I usually pick them up for $5 in the bargain bin. Typical EA I guess. The thing that made me mad was the latest hot pursuit didn’t support local multiplayer. I think sim racing is like eating a turkey dinner and NFS is like eating cheap candy
