2013 Nürburgring 24 Hours, Live Coverage & Video Streams

The 41st Nürburgring 24 Hours gets underway at 17:00 CEST (15:00 GMT/UTC) today, with the #123 Team GT Academy GT-R GT3 26th on the colossal 176-car grid

Stepping up a class into the top SP9 GT3 group, the quartet formed from Tobias and Michael Schulze, GT Academy Le Mans driver Michael Krumm and Gran Turismo founder Kazunori Yamauchi set a fastest lap time of 8’27.497 in the top 40 qualifying sessions earlier in the week – 40 seconds faster than last year’s car.

With a considerable speed improvement, the team looks set to eclipse their own distance record of 136 laps – though their chances of managing a third successive class victory are less clear, given that they’re now competing directly with factory teams for the overall race win.

Gran Turismo fans will want to check on the progress of Academy judge and Queen of the Nürburgring Sabine Schmitz – qualified in 13th in the #30 Frikadelli Porsche 911 GT3 – while GTPlanet users might also like to keep an eye out for the SP7 class #47 Car Collection Porsche 911 driven by GTP member Christhedude (Christoper Zöchling) – no stranger to the ‘Ring.

The following resources are available for anyone looking to keep abreast of the race:

GTPlanet founder Jordan is also at the race, and will be tweeting progress from the official @GTPlanetNews Twitter account.

The race starts at 15:00 UTC/GMT (convert to your local time here). Head on over to our forums too, to participate in the race weekend discussion thread.

Race Status Update: The Schulze GT-R was crippled on lap 7 following a cooling failure that cooked the engine. They returned to the pits to swap the entire engine. Having been raining harder and harder since the 2nd hour of the race, finally the mixture of rain, fog and darkness made the race too dangerous to continue and the red flag was brought out during lap 34.

No restart has yet been announced, though it’s expected at or around sunrise at 05:50 CEST (03:50 GMT/UTC). Restart positions will be the race order at the end of lap 32 – though the clock continues to tick during red flag conditions – and the Schulze car has been repaired, ready to resume from 160th place, 25 laps down.

Race Status Update: The race has resumed in the early hours of the morning following an easing-off of rain and lifting of fog. Substantial surface water remains – and the #123 GT-R is back on track and lapping as fast as the lead group!

Does anyone have heard news regarding if GT6 will bring Pikes Peak?? I do need to race with a SX4 on that mountain!!

  2. TheGTGuy

There’s new gameplay replay footage of GT6 showing the Nurburgring and the shulze Motorsports GTR and Audi R8 LMS Ultra race car, which is a Premium.

    1. pepeferrari

I was going to comment the same. Hope they update the website with this info. Thx for making people notice this! :)

    2. gtrx251

I saw this new GT6 trailer and Gran turismo 6 24h Nürburgring Audi R8 LMS ultra on YouTube. It’s COOOOL!!!!!!!!!!!

    1. JaySamurai

^^Lmao, i know how you feel, i can actually feel this guilty feeling creeping lol lets bow our heads in shame.

    2. Longa23

I have heard that the Ring is not sell on a Single Person (sheikh).

Before that happens do the Car manufactures together.

Sorry 4 my English im a German Guy

    3. Deko Wolf-GTPT

I missed most of it. If you manage to find an highlight digest video of it, could you please share it? I’ll do the same if I come across one.

      Thanks!

    4. MeanElf

Umm Ferrari…news items generally have appropriate photos from the GT5 community photomode competitions – what car did you expect?

  3. biftizmo

Sounds like they had an unlucky time of it…but adds to thier exsperance ..well done boys…was a struggle all round lets hope for better coverage next time…

  4. Dustinho25

Just arrived at home. It was a great race even though there was a 10h long break because of heavy rain and fog..
The GT-R was awesome to look at but they had no chance in the SP9 class, which wasn’t a suprise to be honest.

    1. PaMu1337

They only lost because of cooling problems causing them to stop for a few hours. They were lapping about as fast as the leaders.

    2. another_jakhole

Pit Crew, that’s not what either of them meant, it seems.

Their car had a fair chance had there not been that cooling failure.

    3. Pit Crew

Read DustinHos OP again, He doesnt seem to have given them a chance regardless of the engine problems. I was being sarcastic towards his statement. I agree with PaMu1337.

    4. Dustinho25

Of course the engine swap costed them a lot of places but guys, winning the SP9 class at the Nürburgring as a rather small team is nearly impossible. It’s damn hard to beat teams like Manthey Racing, Schubert Motorsport, Black Falcon, Phoenix Racing etc. because they’re located at the Ring, they are full of drivers and mechanics who probably know the Nürburgring better than their own home.. The GT-R was fast, but obvously no car someone would estimate to win the 24 hours.

  5. crcn11

Did anyone else see the hair on that Black Falcon driver? I think it was Black Falcon. He looked like the bad guy out of Contact

  6. Pit Crew

That #9 SLS AMG GT3 (Black Falcon) is “Flying” cutting thru field of slower cars like they standing still.

Nurb in GT5 is dramatically under designed. RL course seems much wider, including nordschleife portion, In the game those passing lanes dont seem to be that easy to pull off.

    1. Ferrari Alonso

I agree! I found myself thinking “how come am not able to pull that off like that in a video game?!”

    2. Pit Crew

LOL@ nascarfn. My league ran a 24hr online event just this Saturday, I can’t speak for you but those passing lanes in the game are not that wide, where I could pass clean without some contact, this includes a 8 in game hour day session with rain and night session with rain.

All we got is your word on how fast you are. Any 12 year old will claim hes good till hes been beaten.

    3. another_jakhole

It always looks like there’s more room when you look at the replays. Could it be because of the camera view when you’re racing? I think the chase cam even makes it look like the track width is wider. Elevation changes are far more noticeable when using that view, but obviously you’re not going to be using that view in a race.

    4. Ferrari Alonso

      Like Pit Crew said.
I know I’m far from being put on the sane league as many here, I consider myself to be average at least, decent we could say.
But NO, the Nürburgring in GT5 has space for like two cars side by side while in the race [if im not mistaken] i saw three cars side by side or almost close to being side by side and almost colliding with eachother

    5. SavageEvil

Funny stuff, the course and cars are to scale, perspective is hard to make sense of since human eyes tend to focus and refocus instantaneously. Don’t expect the course to look gigantic in the game, realistically it’s not very wide it’s pretty spot on in the game problem is in a real car I guarantee things look differently, but since the cars and course are scaled correctly I don’t think the course needs to be bigger. Driving a real car you would be able to do certain things that look relatively hard to do in the game because of the sense of awareness, the car becomes an extension of your body and you can navigate the narrowest of roads with seeming ease. Funny thing in GT5 the replays the course looks huge, but not so when you’re behind the wheel and because in real life other drivers just stick to on line when a faster cars comes up and not try to out drive the faster car by taking an aggressive line. There are rare places on the Nurburgring where there is room for 3 cars side by side but the course isn’t that wide the majority of the time. Even the history of the course explains it, some places the course is wide and others it’s narrow and barely to cars can fit side by side(nurb is a two lane road normally). Mind you in racing pros pay attention to etiquette of racing and not drive like amateurs with a wheel and a chair.
Would you be able to name the sections in the race that the cars went 3 wide and where the Black Falcon was passing cars like they were standing still? We can look up the sections in GT5 and check their width.

    6. Pit Crew

SavageEvil I clearly said Slower cars. Too many people trying to correct the next player about their opinions without looking at whats being said.

    7. JaySamurai

I quite like it how it is it adds to the challenge. I hope they add more of the paint work on the tarmac and allow for some reflection on the road if it rains. By the way is it me or have PD added some blur motion effects to the game??

    8. nascarfn

i’m 16 and i’m no beast at driving but with patience and practice it can be done and i can do it cause this is something very specific I’ve been practicing do they need to widen the track to be more like real life yes but i’m saying it can be done ;)

    9. Pit Crew

^ We run at least three Nurb events in my league. A scheduled 2hr event on Nordschleife, a 6 hour event for charity on Nordschleife, and the 24hr event on the 24hr course for charity. I would have to say that I get more then enough practice there. Not to mention the Special event seasonal this week. I logged atleast 2100 miles more or less on Nurb in 3 days this week.

  7. IIC

Great chat with Michael Krumm. Tales of K-Ysan practising wet laps in GT5 in the lounge ahead of Quali…

    1. mavryk_gt

There was a fight between mechanics early hours which was always inevitable with so many people in a confined space!

  8. SebiRO1293

I’ll be honest I’ve only watched about 2 hours of this whole race, but I’ve been wondering, are there that many garages in the Nurb pit to hold all those racing teams and the way over 100+ car field? It’s a dumb question, but I’m just curious haha

  9. mavryk_gt

Midday at the ‘Ring, 5 hours to go. The rain has finally eased and most cars are out on track on cut slicks with a dry line appearing and lap times tumbling.

Kaz’s NISMO GT-R GT3 #123 is currently P155 overall, 28th in the SP9 GT3 Class, 29 laps down due to the engine problem before the race was red flagged. Their pace is good but the team are way down on the other SP9 GT3 cars so likely to finish outside the top 100 overall this year.

    Sabine Schmitz’s 911 GT3 is currently 3 laps down, P22 overall, 18th in the SP9 GT3 Class.

  10. Ferrari Alonso

Who’s that girl reporter on the Gazoo Racing stream?! I’m in love already @,@

What’s that new video I keep hearing about GT6, some extended trailer or something or so I’ve heard.

  11. JaySamurai

Has anyone seen the new short video of gameplay of the Audi R8 LMS ultra 24h on nurburging.??

  12. mavryk_gt

The GT-R is flying, currently faster than the leading pack and clawing back it’s deficit.

  13. mavryk_gt

Kaz’s NISMO GT-R GT3 #123 is currently P160, 29th in Class. Just over 6 and a half hours to go.

  14. Irons

Getting pretty close to the restart here. Safety cars are out leading the competition right now.

    1. Ferrari Alonso

Just lost the stream to the Subaru team (just like it happen to Nissan’s)
Now there’s only the Gazoo Racing stream and there’s not much to see on there.. :curse:

  15. ederss7

According to the video i have just watched in the live stream gt6 will have the last year winner r8 #3 premium !

  16. horuspt

Although the race is currently on hold.. I’ve been having fun watching the Subaru team goofing around.
Such an amazing ambient! Only goes to show that a race is not only about who wins or who’s faster.. but also the comradery between the people who are supporting the drivers.

  17. Pit Crew

Bad Break for the Schultze 123 car. The New Car Jinx strikes again, but atleast they’ll be back on the track tomorrow.

  18. Foxiol

VERY GOOD NEWS!!! They changed the engine after 4 hours and “helped” by the rain and the RED FLAG they are going to get back to the track until the finish!!

Video here uploaded by Nissan just a moment ago: watch?v=B22YmW7IMeE

Hey at least they can finish.

    1. UrieHusky

“Helped”? Hardly. If the red flag was brought out while the car was being worked on it would have been a saving grace.

As it is? it’s the nail in the coffin – there’s no way for the 123 GTR to regain any substantial placement in the GT3 bracket with such a small amount of time remaining once the red flag ends.

  19. biftizmo

Like I said this time last year….can we have the GPS Data of todays live event imported into special seasonal event now Kaz? Maybe that’s for GT6.. He just said in announcements the other day..that they collected lhuge amounts of data from GTA boys and last years 24 hr event that’s helped them in the development of GT6 and the implemented some of it into the game….I see great stuf coming…..soon…

    1. Pit Crew

Why can’t this thread just be about the Nurb 24 and not a GT6 wishlist. Its like three threads and the Main Forums where we can talk about what we’d like to see in GT6.

    2. Ferrari Alonso

      This isn’t a ‘thread’.
There’s no race/much to talk about as of right now.
His comment was related to BOTH.

    3. biftizmo

I’m talking about having a live simulated feed to the race.. Could very well be possible and would surly be better than the rubbish coverage we getting at the moment….with live cam pit stop views. Who’s winning what’s happening …who knows I don’t…

    4. Pit Crew

Blog then, and at the time he made the post the race was still under green.

He mentioned adding features to GT6 in a “Blog” talking about the Nurb 24 coverage which is just another wishlist topic, he could have easily posted in one of the other 5 “Blogs”, plus the Main Forum, that touch on the most rescent news we’ve gotten about GT6 . Your new so I don’t expect you to understand.

  20. infamousphil

“99 Red Balloons” on the German radio while watching a replay on the live stream. Audi, BMW, M-B, Porsche… Wow, zee Germans really know what motorsports is all about. Wish I was there ;)

  21. Vendrah

Famine, is there any exact hour to the race restarting?
In what GMT hour is the Germany sunrise?

    Thanks for informing us.

    1. Famine

There’s no confirmation I’m aware of yet, but sunrise is 5.50am CEST (3.30am GMT/UTC), so expect a safety car lap followed by race restart at about 6am.

Incidentally, the clock is still running while the red flag is out.

  22. SimsonS51

because tomorrow is a german holyday and the 24h race comes on the german tv channel “Sport1” and this weekand is the final from the ice hockey championship, the DTM and and the last football day in the german Bundesliga and so it goes from today until Monday for more time to send the 24h race live on Sport1 totaly 20 houres

  23. Famine

Update: The race is red-flagged due to torrential rain and fog causing extremely low visibility in the night. The race order has been reset to how it was at the end of lap 32 (with the #007 Aston Martin Vantage leading) and will resume at sunrise on Monday.

The #123 GT-R has now been fixed and is, accordingly, only 25 laps down.

    1. Famine

A cooling hose failed, cooking the engine. Last we heard they were in the pits changing the entire engine – which is a couple of hours’ work.

    2. infamousphil

I see workers in the pit garage. Is team allowed to work on the engine during the red flag? Did the team get the car back to the garage?

  24. researchALLwars

what in the heck is that “super mario” sound I keep hearing? I remember hearing it last year as well- like a little siren sound? lol

    1. Wallbreaker

You mean in the pit lane? I guess it’s a signal for those working in the pits that cars are entering the pits. When the rain started this sound came almost permanently.

  25. sumbrownkid

Man how fast were they going for a car of that size to lift about half a foot off the air? Especially with the amount of downforce these GT3 cars can produce. I know they ain’t F1, but I heard GT cars can stick like glue to paper. That looks dangerous actually.

Running a lower downforce set up to get top speed on the back straight I suppose.

  26. mykem

It’s long weekend over in NA- Memorial and Victoria respectively for Americans and Canadians, so it’s great to be able to watch this race all day, night and morning. Now I just have to find live streaming available here in Canada.

Good luck to Yamauchi-San and Co. Michael Krumm is Nismo Super GT driver who happens to be married to a Japanese pro tennis player (not sure if she’s retired) Kimiko Date.

  27. Foxiol

Sad news: The Nissan has problems in the cooling system and is currently 4 laps back in position #146.

It was doing really great in the first hour and a half but then they had to sop and now I´m not sure if they are in the race or trying to fix the car. :(

  28. vr6cas

I think they can make premium cars alot faster than what people think, thats the gtr gt3 thats already on gt6, so I doubt it takes months to make a car, with todays tech, and pds manpower I bet it only takes days or a couple of weeks. lol And if im not mistaking they never said how many premiums was in the game what if they took some standards out of the game but added some premiums.

  29. vr6cas

I wonder why this race does’nt get international coverage? Why dont speed channel support this race, they have alot of other races, le mans, v8 supercars, nascars, f1, monster trucks, but it does’nt support one of the greatest races in the world that only happens once a year. wtf!

    1. Amac500

I wish speed channel covered auto racing more extensively. I mean all their entertainment shows are crap, they need to stick to racing and car shows. They could honestly have 2 cable channels and they can dump all their crappy entertainment shows in the second one and then be able to cover major sports car races like this without conflicting their humongous NASCAR contract.

    2. infamousphil

Not since ESPN bought them out or SpeedChannel sold out to them ;(
US commercialism at it’s finest. NASCAR and XGames is where the young money is now, unfortunately.

    3. Ferrari Alonso

Speed covers mostly the american crap (am sorry [not really] but that’s the truth) I wished they covered more international racing as that’s where the good stuff is [personally of course]

  30. crcn11

“Sorry, your network address (IP) is not approved for the use of this offer.
licensing reasons we must restrict ourselves to viewers with various contents of certain countries.
using our System Check allows you to check what content is available in which countries.” from ‘SportAuto.de Livestream’. I’m in the UK and can’t find a single live stream of the cars that works.

    1. Famine

I’m also in the UK and the first link that says “Official Live Stream and Timing & Scoring” that I also just linked to separately below works. I just closed it and reopened it and it works. Three other guys I know in the UK clicked through to GTP and then that link and it worked. A guy I know in Australia clicked through to GTP and then that link and it worked.

I can’t really help beyond that. The official stream at http://www.24h-rennen.de/en/live/ works.

  31. Famine

I’m not really sure why people are having trouble finding the “Official Live Stream and Timing & Scoring” link I put in the post above, but it works perfectly, globally.

    http://www.24h-rennen.de/en/live/

It’s even better in conjunction with the Radio Le Mans link I put two links above it.

    1. Foxiol

I´m watching that way since I always use Radiolemans and The official site in “English”. They blocked the IP´s for the only German site. Use this at the end: de/en/live/ to not have problems.

      The race is great. ;)

    2. infamousphil

Thanks Famine, GTPlanet for the links. I would not know how to find this stuff without you ;)

  32. StiggyGT

Can anyone give a link to this? Nissan’s is off air, Subaru’s coverage is strange, any other links?

  33. MrMahad

That Sportauto.de link only works for people in german speaking countries. I just checked the guidelines on that website

  34. JaySamurai

Hmm just finished watching schumy going around the green hell in the F1 mercs. Seriously this is such a classic circuit that if this was the only racing track in the game id still buy it.

I hope they update the look of the track in GT6.

Good luck to all those taking part in today’s race.

  35. Flagmo-T

I love how the Picture really shows the grass as straws and without any spectacular filter to flatten it more out in this picture..

Sorry couldn’t help myself, adding some tardy stomach acid to the fine thread ( I’m almost Joking )

But with that said, I love racing a track and a Car in GT5/6-> at the same time/day as the real race is going on it’s inspiring to do so and It makes it so much more interesting to race by yourself, so thank you PD for adding this special event to the Seasonal this week, and please continue being creative like this, and while you’re at it, the Overtaking challenges were great, lets have some more of them too..

ALl the best to the real drivers racing today on Nürnberger’Ring ..

  36. RAIDONKU

anyone look at the list of competitors?
in 13th is an un-named team….. its probably tuxedo mask

  37. uhruhtowel

Super excited to see what the gt acdemy team is capable of in this class . Good luck to them . Race safe guys

  38. aronh17

I figured they were running GT3 class this year considering the GT3 class GT-R was shown off during the GT6 announcements. Hopefully we get a handful of GT3 class cars for GT6, we already know of two, it’d be great to run GT3 class, even better if we get a livery editor. Good luck to everyone running out there!

  39. apff

The Nissan GT-R Schulze is no longer the only one in its class for they get a GT3 version this year while they had a slightly modified street car last year…

I wish they’ll be able to demonstrate that this GT-R GT3 is a good car, and that their previous results were not due to the lack of contestant.
