You should have waited for him. You knocked him off track, he messed up a few seconds later. Him messing up wasn't your fault, but the bump you gave him brought an end to a good fight.

Two cars battles at the Nordschleife rules! I used to do this in LAN mode in GT4 with two BMW M5 with a friend, the typical battle was a little bit like this and if we managed to get to the long straight this close, one sliptreamed the other and it was about who had the balls to dive in at the last corner to pit entrance.

I am trying to convince my friend to get a PS3...

Nice job blocking. Not so nice job re-entering the track when he finally got along side you. I think the RX-7 would have blown past you on the straight. He had some issues with grip exiting turns but was otherwise a much faster car simply looking for a clean passing opportunity.

very nice driving. bet this had your adrenaline pumping. not the bmw fault for the bump, he had no idea the rx7 was on his side when he came back on the track. props to the rx7 driver though. it takes skills and extreme concentration to follow someone that close, and try to maintain a line while looking to pass. props to the bmw driver for maintaining his cool while his mirror was full of the rx7..

Call me a cynic but whilst I enjoyed that, it looked kinda false to me, i'm not saying it was, but it looked it. I don't think a car would hang just a couple of metres behind another car for the best part of 5 miles without taking it eventually, or at least bumping it (unless you were WAAAAY too polite). It looked like a parade to me, deliberate, almost like one car was towing the other, and I even felt some of that oversteer on the RX-7 was because it was holding off, coming out of the corners too fast so it would take the BMW.

Both looked like good enough drivers so which RX-7 was it? I am curious to compare those two cars as whilst I liked that BMW, I wouldn't have thought it's as quick as the Mazda.

i could see why you would say that,, but i have done it, its not easy but possible. the car in front of me was the rx7 i forget what model. i was behind him literally on his bumper for a lap in a half on nurburg 24 hour.. my strategy was to pressure him into a making a mistake. i knew i had the faster car (Ferrari 430 scudera). but passing him wasn't an easy feat, without either one of us losing our line. the closer we got to the end the more mistakes he began to make allowing me to pass him while still maintaining my race line. passing him only made things worse for him as now he was pushing his car beyond its limits to try to stay with me.

there's alot more pressure on the first place driver to maintain first, than it is on the second place driver

Yeah, as I mentioned in my post above, the RX-7 was prolly just looking for a clean passing opportunity. It takes skill to follow that close, and it takes skill for the leader to maintain the racing line under pressure. At the 'ring, you can take turns slower if you're in front as long as you hit your apexes the following car will never get around you.

Some more tactics: When you're behind a slower car, sometimes it's better that you leave a little gap. Because if you stay right behind the bumper you can't go any faster around the corners than he do, but if you have a little gap you can wait for a good corner to come up, make it fast through and get more speed out on the following straight, literally flying ahead of the other car.
