A surprise new addition to the Gran Turismo 7 car roster has leaked out, in the shape of a Chevrolet Corvette concept car called the CX.R Vision Gran Turismo.
The car is the star of a video on the Chevrolet YouTube channel, originally made public but then quickly moved to unlisted (Edit: and now made private!) and the fact that it appears to be unaccompanied by any other information suggests that it’s safe to say that it’s broken cover just a little early.
In fact, given the appearance of Laguna Seca under its wheels, there’s a good chance it was intended to be part of the Monterey Car Week this weekend — at which GT series founder Kazunori Yamauchi is a judge for the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance and selects a further car for the Gran Turismo Award.
Unfortunately that means we do have little other information to go on right now, but it looks like the car is the promised third model in a series of three concept design studies to be launched by Chevrolet this summer.

The first was designed in the UK and revealed in March, while there was a second to follow it up in July from the Pasadena studio in California. Both took the mid-engined shape that made a debut with the C8 and moved it on a touch but without any specifics as to the power source.
This also appears to be the case for the CX.R Vision Gran Turismo, although the video does confirm that the car will be a hybrid of some flavor. It’ll likely use a similar arrangement to the C8 Corvette E-Ray or the ZR1X — which recently became the fastest American car around the Nurburgring Nordschleife — with a blown V8 powering the rear wheels and an electric motor on the front.
It’s been a while since Gran Turismo had an official motorsports Corvette added to the game, with the last actually being the C5-R from Gran Turismo 3. Since then, the game has only featured an unofficial model of the C6.R, in the shape of race modified C6s in Gran Turismo 5, leading to questions about why cars like the C7.R, C8.R and Z06 GT3.R have appeared in other games but not GT.
Not only did the CX.R make an appearance before it was due, there was another accidentally public video featuring a CX Concept (not a Citroen).
This looks to be the car upon which the CX.R is based, with the same styling and same front-hinged canopy, but appears to be an EV. Given the obvious connection between the two, we’d expect both to appear in a GT game but, unlike the CX.R video, there’s no Gran Turismo logo at the end of the CX’s clip.
With the Monterey Car Week already underway, we’re expecting more information on at least the CX.R’s appearance in Gran Turismo soon, so watch this space for all the latest as we get it!
