Formula Legends’ New Demo is Live From Today, Adds New Track and Cockpit Cam

A new demo is now available for Formula Legends, the cutesy trip through the history of open-wheel racing, running through the Steam Racing Fest period and on until August 30.

It’s the second time that the game has been available as a time- and content-limited demo on Steam, with the previous version of the uniquely styled, chase-cam racer being played over 40,000 times according to developer 3DClouds.

Following feedback from that version of the game, with some 10,000 comments on the feedback form, Formula Legends is back with a new demo with some improvements, changes, and new content for players to try out over the next month or so.

One of the biggest changes is a switch from that pure chase-cam view to multiple different angles that now include a cockpit cam. If you want to stick with that over-wing look, there’s now several different range options too.

The game has had a physics overhaul too, improving the handling model — reducing input delay to make the steering feel sharper — and vehicle braking which is described as more powerful and predictable than in previous versions. There’s also a improvement to the AI, to bring about a more realistic set of opponents.

You’ll be able to access three of the game’s vehicle eras, with the full set of Mid ’70s, Early ’90s, and Mid ’20s cars, along with their drivers — all named and designed to be as close to the real thing as possible without upsetting any licensors.

There’s also two circuits this time round, as “Belgium” — a circuit inspired by Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps — is joined by the all-new “Hungary”. Both circuits will be available in Classic and Modern variants.

Each is available with new dynamic weather options, with everything from a full storm (in which the cars still race, unlike the real thing) to bone dry are selectable in custom mode. This also offers multiple ways to customize your race settings, from difficulty and assists, to race rules, and of course the cars and AI rivals.

Alongside the Custom Race mode there’s also a Time Attack mode. This is just you vs. the track, and your time is ranked in the new online leaderboards.

There’s still plenty more to come too, as 3DClouds continues to refine the game ahead of its proposed 2025 launch date (on PC, at least) and fans feed back their thoughts.

Among many other things in development there’s planned support for wheels — yes, it’s a controller-only game right now — and ultrawide screens, although we’d not expect VR. A custom camera system and the ability to toggle your view rearwards are also coming, along with new on-screen elements like delta times, throttle and brake indicators, and AI tire display.

As we said back in our developer preview of the title, Formula Legends looks set to be a fun and slightly different take on F1 racing games but with a surprising depth and a lot of love for the sport. It’s one we’ll be looking for when it does hit the virtual shelves.
