I was going to ask what is wrong with mixing tires? From SD above, it appears that it hampers your ability to learn how to drift better.

Can you explain the benefits of using tires other than sim tires? What are the aspect that will improve when I switch to a tire other than sims? What tire should I switch to? DarkAzn apparently deems it stupid to use sims, yet offers no reason why. You've all stated it will improve your drifting ability.

How?

We all have to start learning somewhere, and why not use sims? They are the easiest to break traction with and hardest to regain traction. So should I aspire to drift with T5 tires?

Be as mean as you want, but offer a plausible reason why someone should not use sims.

Calling it stupid and saying nothing else simply points to your own in telligence.

I think it's wrong to think of it as, which tire is better...... The tire merely needs to be matched up with the HP/weight of the vehicle.....

If you have a stock to 350hp (up to 400hp on cars with less torque/heavy), use sims...

400hp to 550hp (up to 650hp on cars with less torque/heavy) use normals or sports, and so on.....

I think it is best to learn how to drift, on a low power (stock or close to it) vehicle on sims... This forces you to learn good technique, and use weight transfer, instead of relying on power to initiate drifts..... This also teaches you the base handling characteristics of your vehicle, so you have a good idea what needs to be tuned......

Furthermore, I have noticed that most of you don't realise, that when you install sims, it changes the physics of the game slightly, so the control is more realistic..... This has nothing to do with the traction of said tire... It just means the control is altered slightly to feel more realistic..... As long as you don't use too much HP, sims have a very realistic feel.....

Mixing tires creates an unbalanced traction coeficient, from the front and back..... This can make for a choppy drift, and will ultimately slow the progress of an aspiring drifter..... Balance is the key to drift/grip, as I'm sure some of you know..... Keeping balance in the vehicle, is extremely important IMO, and should be given more attention, than what tires are the best.....

Very well said Silviadrifter is there anything you don't know

Plenty.......

Maybe, but not as much as me. Thanks for the consise explanation. I pretty much knew that, but I couldn't explain it that well. 💡

However, as I have said before... If you don't want to learn how to become a better drifter, than that's just fine.... It's up to you....

;)
I never said I didn't want to learn I just think it would be very difficult, what with my PS2 dead now. After I get a new one I'll be back for some help.

thats cause u suck my friend :)

Wow, did you figure that out all by yourself? That's pretty much a no brainer. The funny part is that this thread is almost a month old and that was your ony reply? I know you're a veteran here and all. But what's with you?

Heero 12. Man, that's rough about your PS2. did you get the disc read error? BTW, I'm sorry if I "read into" your post. Honestly it did come off like you had a "holier than thou" attitude. But hey, I could be very wrong. Anyway, it's cool to see you're willing to learn, once your PS2 is back up an running. :dopey:

don't take it personal... just practice on sims is what im trying to say.... if u just practice for the next 2 weeks on sims with a stock 180, you will be better than most on this forum.. just a little tip..

remeber... 2 weeks - stock 180sx (except for all drivetrain mods - i sugest a 1.5 or 2 way diff.. i prefer the 1.5....)

Ok, I will certainly take that advise. That seems like a very sound plan to me. I've been trying it like you said but with the S13. I get a lot of power oversteer with it tohugh. I PM SD on it, but if anyone else has a suggestion I would like to hear it.

I hear a lot of people on this board say things like "you're not drifting unless you do it on sims!" What kind of garbage is that. I don't care if the player is using sims or T8's a drift is a drift. It's all about having fun and making something fun to watch.

Yes, there is a lot of skill involved, especially with the FR drifting. I've tried drifting on sims. It's borderline impossible, at least with a controller. :banghead:

Do you think that people who drift on a regular basis use the stadard all season radial when the drift? I'm thinking no. They would tear that tire apart.

So, I say again. who cares about sim tires! Just play the game, acquire some skill and have fun. If it's on T6's in the front and T4's on the rear then so be it. Just enjoy the game and enjoy the drifting for what it is....fun!

THATS WHAT IM SAYIN. IT DOESNT MATTER WHAT TIRE U USE ITS FINDING THE RIGHT TIRE FOR U TO DRIFT ON AND DIFF PEOPLE USE DIFF TIRES . SOME PEOPLE LIKE TO DRIFT FASTER AN SOME PEOPLE LIKE TO DRIFT SLOWER 👍

Turn off your caps lock.... Also, it's funny that you quoted Swifts post, considering he is now an advocate of not mixing tires..... Mixing tires creates unbalance and will ultimitely hinder your progress....

Every tire is perfectly fine to drift with, just not mixing them.....

;)

g'yarr!! I use tires to determine how difficult i want the driving to be. The tires aren't very realistic in any aspect anyway. When i practice i use sims on my 1060 hp Speed 12... muahahahhahahahhahahaha.

Its funny Silvia said to use normals/sports on cars in the cars up to 400 to 550 hp. I power-oversteer my C4 with well over 600, on sims :sly:

That's extremely exsessive..... You do not need that much power to drift fast, and/or well on sims..... It is possible, and will probably seem easier for beginners, but you are upsetting the balance of the vehicle, and causes you to do more manhandling of the vehicle to attempt to keep the drift looking smooth.....

;)

why doesn't everyone use whatever tires they want? I have fun using sims, and i have fun gripping with normal tires, FUN is the key to a GAME. Games are made so people have FUN, why doesn't everyone have fun?

btw I'm back for those who care, which will mosyt likly be noone... *sigh*

right. lol

LOL that's a lot.

That number legit? (i.e. non-hybrided... I have yet to drive a speed 12)

Sil, I don't run much gear...

Not hybrid. 1040, 1060, 1080... when you get all the upgrades it's around there... im not going to go check right now. The scary thing is it's well under 1000kg too!

Wow, I really can't believe this.

I post a thread, with a bad attitude but good meaning(just drift and stop ragging on people). I've calmed down and learned not to get so angry. And I also have like SD said, lost the mentality of mixing tires.

But I wish people would not get so upset of stuff like this. What SD is saying is true. Mixing tires jacks up the balance of the car. Say what you will and overtune your car all you want. But it's unbalanced and will limit the amount of techniques that you can effectively use for drifting.

Oh well, I'm getting better, Praise God, and it's because I listened to the veterans on this forum and followed their advise. Now I can completly drift Mid Field II with almost no problem.

Get a stock silvia, S13-S15, upgrade the brakes, drivetrain and LSD. Set the LSD around 40 or so. Put sims on it and go have fun.

I don't care who you are and what you have. But if you drift for just fun and don't care about skill then that's fine. But don't say "I've got mad skillz" and then come in here with a car that has 600+HP and mixed tires. Who couldn't drift that? :dunce:

Wow, I guess you don't run much gear... you run too much gear and keep the revs up and its difficult to control wheelspin... you only want so much.

For some strange reason the eight-six can't handle over 350 hp well... maybe it's the wheel size?

Much gear? what does that mean.

Uh, I keep the revs pretty high. You have to stay in the powerband to have good control. Once you're in the drift with a FR it's all about countersteer and throttle control. If you're not in the powerband, you loose one of your forms of control over the drift.

i think that sim tires r 4 noobz...they do take technique but not much..lolz....its better if u have sum better tirez and a sum good settings and a great technique.....and actually there is a shift lok..lol... if ur usin automatic u hold R2..lolz...but itz alot funner when u have manual...because then u have more control over ur speed.and ****...so ya

I'm not even going to touch that one.

good job biting ur toungue. :) he obviously didnt read all of the other posts. Sims require the most finesse out of all the tires. but everyone else has already pointed this out in posts before so this could really just be closed and all the newbs should be forced to read it, lol.

OO, and w/ the trueno all that power ruins the low speed performance. but once you get past 65MPH that car can hang w/ cars w/ other cars that have more horsepower. its still a cornering machine as long as you keep revs up and little tire spin. i dunno.. maybe its just my setup. My current S.S trueno has 240 hp and that seems to be just the right amount for HP for that car. Just about everything else is "stock" on it except i think its NA stage 3,. If i remember correctly its about just as fast as the r32 gtr on most windy courses.

damn... hate to know that I'm a "noob"~!!

and all the elite drifters here are all using sims.... what a coincidence.... :dunce:
