There seem to be a lot of false rumours on the 'net about the next GTA game. There was a false report that it was be a launch title.

From http://ps3.ign.com/articles/614/614665p1.html?
ps3.ign.com
May 16, 2005 - Despite early reports that claimed Grand Theft Auto would be a PS3 launch title (gotta love that early launch chaos), we have confirmed with our editors at the Sony E3 press event that no new GTA title has been confirmed for Sony's upcoming machine.

What Rockstar did confirm, however, was that it would be supporting the powerhouse system in the future and that it's looking forward to creating living, breathing worlds with the Cell technology
So the next GTA hasn't even been confirmed yet by Rockstar games, never mind that it's going to be a launch title.

I like Small_fryz idea of a new garage system. 50 sounds like too much car save slots though. They could give you 20 or so slots to save cars in, and then allow you to save or pickup cars at any garage. Once you collect a car, that slot becomes free and you can use it to save a new car if you wish.

The import/export garage in Shoreside Vale was great for picking up fast cars from. Vice City gave you loads of garage space and there were spawn spots for all the fast cars. San Andreas gives you no spawn spot for the Infernus or Turismo, and although you can import them from the import/export crane at the docks, it's really annoying that you can only do it at certain days of the week.

I like the current garage system, I like realism where possible. As long as it doesn't take away from gameplay.

I would be a bit disappointed if there was no GTA for the PS3, though I couldn't blame Rockstar. After all, where else would they create a new city? They've covered pretty much all the big scenes in the US.

They could always try Hawaii (the locking the islands would be real this time).
But if Rockstar doesn't have a GTA PS3 in the works, you got to realize, they have a title called Bully in the works, then there's the PSP GTA.

Rockstar's got alot to work on right now. I think a PS3 GTA isn't right now, one of their top priorities. They have a few games coming out soon, and the PS3 isn't coming out a good time now.

It wouldn't be hard to come up with a new location. Liberty City was only extremely loosely based on New York. Why not make a version of New York and make it more like New York, the way Las Venturas, San Fierro, Los Santos and Vice City were like their cities. All of them had landmarks and locations based on the real cities of Las Vegas, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Miami. They had guys take thousands of photos to recreate famous locations from those cities and tried to capture the overall feeling of a time and place. Liberty City was pretty generic.

You could be driving down Broadway, seeing the Empire State Building, the UN building, driving through Central Park, going to Harlem, etc. etc.

Hawaii doesn't sound like a very interesting location. Las Vegas, San Francisco and Los Angeles are all very famous from TV and film and Vice City perfectly captured the mid 1980s combination of Miami glamour and sleaze from the likes of Miami Vice and Scarface.

I'd like to see them do what they did with Vice City and San Andreas and pick a particular time, place and culture - try to recreate the style and culture from that era. Maybe 1970s New York (The Godfather, The French Connection, Taxi Driver, etc. plenty of stuff to work with there). I've heard 1960s London put forward as an idea - but it sounds a bit crap really - and I've bad memories from The Getaway.

But if Rockstar doesn't have a GTA PS3 in the works, you got to realize, they have a title called Bully in the works, then there's the PSP GTA.
They probably don't have a specific PS3 version of the next GTA game in the works, but I'd be surprised if they weren't doing preliminary research for the next game. Designing 3d models for vehicles, maybe they've already decided on a city to base it on and have researchers taking video and photos, etc. Or they might just have writers and designers working on just concept artwork, trying to decide which way to go with the game.

A lot of the groundwork required for a video game has nothing to do with the platform it's going to be released on. They could be thinking years down the road, releasing the next GTA in 2007 or something. If they're only started on the game, they probably aren't willing to confirm any details yet.

I was thinking of a 70's based game. In Chicago or Detroit though, not New York. Any of those would be good.

One very minor thing I think would be nice is turn signals. They would eleminate so many annoying collisions with AI cars.

The next American 2 cities I thought of that hadn't been done were Chicago and Detroit.

With Chicago, the obvious thing to do for a GTA type crime game would be to set in the 1920s prohibition era - with Tommy guns and those old 1920s cars. It wouldn't really be in the spirit of the GTA games, but it could be a good idea for a similar type game.

I agree that the 1970s would be the next obvious era to do. There's plenty of 70s gangster, crime and police movies that could be a good inspiration.

I definitely think that something should be done about the driver AI. It's one of the most annoying things about San Andreas. The traffic drives around like crazy and makes it really annoying. Half the fun with the traffic is trying to drive around it at high speed and trying to avoid it during police chases, but when your driving at 100mph+ and you're rammed from behind by an 18 wheeler, or when traffic takes turns at 100mph at right angles without slowing down right in front of you, if's just annoying.

It would be nice to have better crash physics as well. The San Andreas cars look better when crashed than GTA3 and Vice City, with bumpers hanging off the car. But it would be nice if your car deformed after serious collisions - with the front getting squashed etc. or the roof getting bent out of shape if you roll the car.

Also, bring back the stingers that the cops use to pop your tyres. That was a good addition to Vice City, I don't know why they removed it.

It'd also be nice to have a proper tank. The size of a real tank and with proper catterpillar tracks.

Wishlist:
  • You can actually properly hold up stores again, yet developed better, including banks, etc.
  • The ability to enter every building. I wouldn't put this past PS3 technology.
  • Ability to store things in the trunk of your car (including bodies), at your house, etc.
  • In-car view and first-person view.
  • More realism. I'm hungry!

Nice i really like the trunk idea. I think they should put something in the game that is praticly impossible for someone to do. Like the army base got kinda easy after a while and avoiding missiles is a breeze for me. They should put in like a mine field or something. Or like a place where the cops are really hard and they get brutal. And for god sakes bring back spike strips ! they were the bomb.

I have an RPG game for PC called Morrowind. In it, every single building is enterable. There are hundreds of houses, castles, taverns, mines, caverns, tombs, temples etc. than can be entered and in different areas of the game world, they have different styles. They still seem a bit cookie-cutter though, much like the safehouses in San Andreas, all very similar designs.

It'd be great to have hundreds of pubs, nightclubs, office buildings, shops, houses, etc. to enter, with a large variety of designs and all with their own population doing their own thing inside.

I hope they get rid of the eating thing though. Too annoying. It probably seemed like a good idea to add that touch of realism, but it doesn't work, it just annoys me and make the game too close to something like The Sims. And I hate The Sims.

I barely ever get the message saying to eat, and it doesn't annoy me. If they don't keep it, I'll be pretty disappointed. As I said when San Andreas was first coming out - the more realism the better.

That would be one GTA title I'd probably not buy.
I'm not very big fan of the 1920's time. The cars would annoy me as I, personally think they're down right ugly.

The 1920's just isn't a place I'd like to play around in.

I really like the whole eating and exercise and haircut and clothing thing, it's really cool IMO. I also like the ability to increase skills etc.

Things I would like are turn signals, and injuries e.g. you get shot in the leg you limp until you get health. And body armour only protects your body, not your limbs etc.

There are certain things I definitely want realistic in games like realistic graphics (just wait until the next GTA on PS3), historical authenticity (the Medal of Honour games have German soldiers speaking genuine German and the weapons and lots of locations were researched thoroughly for authenticity), semi-realistic car physics (I don't want a driving sim, but I also don't want all the cars to corner like they're on rails), realistic character physics (like ragdoll physics, which unfortunately none of the GTA games has)

But I don't want to be thrown through the windscreen after a headon clash, I don't want to die after being shot once or twice or to have to crawl around because I've been shot in the leg, I don't want my car to be a useless wreck after a couple of collisions, etc. And I don't want to have to eat in a shoot 'em up driving game. As far as I can see, it serves no positive purpose. It doesn't make the game feel any more authentic to me, it just annoys me.

It's not just a matter of more realism, it's a matter of choosing appropriate things to be realistic, and which things to make like a comic book.

After reading the last ten or so posts, I agree with alot of the content contained in them. I`ll definately vote for a 1970`s based GTA, whether it`s the next one or not. I`d even be happy with another GTA set in the 80`s, as that era has the most fond memories for me of any time period. No thanks for any GTA set in the 20`s, 30`s, 40`s or probably even 50`s either.

I got it alot.

It annoyed the crap out of me. Now, I just put in the Never Hungry cheat.

I personally, do not like it at all.

I think a 1920s Chicago gangster game couild be a pretty cool game, but it just wouldn't be GTA.

I think the 1970s would be the obvious next era to do. A 1970s GTA game set in New York or a GTA New York ripoff would be seriously cool.

KM go check out mafia, great game and excatly what your looking for. Steal cars shoot people, damage. Its set in the 20's - 30's or so i think. Its free roam around cities like GTA. Though i dont know if its for PS2. Download a demo somewhere for your PC and see what you think.

Personally i agree with the 70's and most of your other points, especially about the eating, when i get hungry i normally eat (duh!) or save my game, die or get busted. It annoys me for killing sprees and such. Id also love better damage and AI cars, ive been a big fan of roll over damage and i love finding place to hit so my car does lots of rolls down the road.

I remeber a place just outside your portland hideout where id drive a moonbeam down the highway and where the road goes straight and where it goes down their was a ledge and id get half the car on it so the car gets thrown onto 2 wheels then it would roll down the hill, Id get like 4 - 5 rolls with doors and panels flying off the car.

I seriously think they need to get over to the UK and set the next one here. Don't all start mentioning Getaway, it's not like there hasn't been a GTA set in UK before.
I'm getting a bit sick of all the American-ness of the series.

then they should set it in canada, like the territories. With them crazy eskimos, there'll be some crazy snow mobile chases i gurantee you that.:dopey:

Oh yeah there's been a GTA set in the UK before, and remember how much of a failure that one was? :dopey:

set a GTA in europe.

USSR?, Italy, Germany.

Get some Mafia or some organised crime.

I want the gang cars to come back, i remeber the diablo stallion, and the yakuza stinger. Also i want it to be more like VC where your the king of the city at the end, with a really really useful mansion. Mad dogs mansion is 🤬.

Im also sick of americianess of GTA.

For those of you who want a 80's GTA - try Vice City

For those who want a GTA set in New York - try GTA III (Liberty City)

Canada sounds awesome!

Think about it? How cool would it be to drive in snow? :dopey: And then travel into the greener cities.

Canada sounds perfect.

I'd love to have a 60's GTA. :D When your driving around in your flowery VW Bus, listening to The Beatles the radio and driving past some people demostrating against the Tatcher rage, or who ever were the president of UK atm. :D

Does anyone like the idea of seasons? After like 30 or 40 days pass in the game it changes from summer to fall, then to winter and continues like that. I'm not really sure if I like the idea but I definitely want snow in the game some how, for snowmobiles and make the roads more slippery unless you change the tires to snowtires. Maybe, if it's not too annoying, after snowstorms the snow piles up and you need powerful vechiles like snowplows, or attach snowplows to trucks.

Liberty City is a very poor simulation of New York. Vice City and San Andreas cities are obviously based on Miami, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Las Vegas, but I had completed GTAIII before I heard someone no a forum mention that Liberty City was based on New York - I had no idea. It doesn't feel like New York at all.

That's why I think a GTA mockup of New York, more like how the cities of Vice City and San Andreas were designed would be pretty cool. They could capture the essence of New York while also designing the city layout as they see fit.

KM.

Seasons sounds great. Definitely something that should, and most likely will, be added in the next GTA.

However, I really don't believe the next GTA game will be set in anything apart from the present. It will be somehow connected to GTA III, and as always, will be connected to the other GTA's in mostly minor, but some major ways. I'm fairly positive that GTA 4, which is the almost-certain name of the next GTA. It's also officially been commented on by Rockstar that it will be based on the PS3.
KM
And I don't want to have to eat in a shoot 'em up driving game.
GTA is an RPG.

I see where you're coming from, though. We'll have to see.
