I need a fifth gear!

EDIT

31.663/1'11.556

I absolutely nailed almost every corner, so that's it for me.
Shown up yet again :indiff:
Good work. What are you driving?

Hey Koly, is it to late to add a part to the car even if we have the money for it? I was looking at my list of parts and noticed I still had about 1,450cr left for HP parts and since it could be used for non-HP parts, I was hoping to get another nom-HP part but I wasn't sure if it was to late or not.

If it's not to late, heres the part:
Racing Wing - 1,200 credits

If you have the money, go for it :)

Board updated.

Sweet action(dont ask >_<)! thanks Koly. Now if only I could get a better tranny setup to get this car out of those 90s faster.

EDIT:
T1: 31.578
T2: 1'17.157

A huge improvement for the Cuda. Now once I get down how to drive this thing with the downfore(massive oversteer now), maybe this car will kick some butt

I'm still .3 behind jump_ace though. He is on S3 tires while I am on the S2 tires, I wonder if my gamble paid off?

Koly- with TCS you CAN lose speed if you have it set too high. What TCS does, in the off chance you don't though I think you already do, is it detects wheelspin and reduces the amount of throttle being used. What it does NOT do is detect wheelspin and reduce the throttle proportionally so that it gets an EXACT throttle position to prevent wheelspin. What I mean is it detects wheelspin but not how much. So if you have TCS set low, it'll lower your throttle a little bit when your wheels spin. If you have it set high, it'll lower your throttle a LOT.

When I use TCS (which is rare) I set it to the one setting less than one that would completely get rid of wheelspin. I also just use careful transmission tuning to get rid of most of my wheelspin. Using both you can get an excellent balance of control and speed. However, if you're in 4th gear or so and TCS kicks in during straight line acceleration, you've either got WAY too much power, or your TCS is too high.

On a side note, my PS2 is broken. This time it's not the lens, so it may be a little while before it gets fixed--if at all.... :(

I commented on the broken PS2 ... that really, really sucks ... sorry man :( Hope something comes up and you can get it fixed real soon.

Regarding the TCS ... couple of questions.

How can you set the transmission to help minimize wheelspin?

if you're in 4th gear or so and TCS kicks in during straight line acceleration, you've either got WAY too much power, or your TCS is too high.

How can a TCS that is too high cause wheespin like this? Do you mean too low?

Typically I've set TCS to 1 and just not thought about it again, never really trying to find that point when Wheelspin completely stops, but your comments make me think that I'm being too indifferent to the subject and I should be fine tuning this more.

What gamble is this kenny? I must know now...dont leave me hangin!

@Kolyana, generally wheelspin from what I have opserved is when u have too much torque and the wheels spin too much as a result. Now my theory on how to fix this (I dunno if it will work for this and if anyone else has a better way plz share!) is to spread out your gear ratio so that when you start accelerating your car revs to a lower rpm when shifting/starting (longer ratio). for example, if u have your car currently at auto 10, try setting it to auto 13 or 14 and hopefully there is less torque from the engine so that your tires will shut up, but be careful not to change it too much as your engine will want to bog down a lot and then you'll be too slow, so try to find a happy median I guess. But again this is only my theory. And throttle control really comes in handy too, which u have an advantage over me there Nat ;). Hope that made atleast SOME sense.

TCS in GT4 can be odd.

It is different for every car but typically I have noticed from the WDS that for absolute best acceleration for high powered cars 7 is your magic number. On my Vette I had the TCS at 2, and it still came on a little bit at the top end of fourth gear. 2 was my best setting at the dragstrip, which is why I'm using it during the series too.

Like he said, set your gears wider. If you still want Auto 10, just set your first and second gears over to the left to make them wide. However in this series this information is fairly useless.

I bought the sports suspension and racing brakes instead of buying S3 tires.

You have me beat :( I just tried a few different setups, all without TCS, and even though I could control it *better*, the torque is INSANE and it still wheelspins at 70+mph in 3rd. CRAZY.

I had to put TCS '1' back on, shaved a tenth off my best time, couldn't improve my splits and got so mad that I wanted to scream..

Okay, I *DID* scream :p

I doubt I'll run New York again ... I'll just have to bring up the rear and have fun doing so :)

I think I'm done for this week. I've tried to catch the leaders but its not doing to happen :ouch:

@Koly, have you tried using the ballast weight to reduce wheel spin? That what I using instead of TCS. I think this is the setting that I'm using 90 / -45

Uh, no I hadn't ... I'm really not that strong with the whole setup ... thing ... and I have no idea what the heck ballast does.

So you added weight and through it to the ... rear? Front?

There's a concert tomorrow so I KNOW I won't be able to compete any further for this weeks race but to be of further assistance:

What I meant by your TCS being too high is that it's coming on when it's not supposed to. Basically it's lowering your throttle in a straight line when it shouldn't. I.e. your wheels would not spin at full throttle even with TCS off, but it turns on anyway.

Generally speaking, throttle control is the best way to maintain a high speed and keep your car stable. However, if you can't do that on your own, you should use TCS in moderate settings, and only then after you tune your transmission whenever possible.

FINALLY! It's not a winning time, I know that, but it beat my target time!

T1: 32.247
T2: 1'15.206

 to that, DW... Hopefully next week will be less of a strugle, eh?

I get more days off next week so maybe I'll have more time. 14 hours away from home and the PS2 for 4 days straight really throws a wrench into you plans

Well Darkwind, I know you are racing the one of the other 'Cuda's in this, i see that you brought your splits down. Good job. :) I beat my previous splits by over a second so I am down to a second split time of 1:14:282, still not on the top but much better than i expected to do.

Good luck. and have fun.

Where is she?

Well, I submitted my time earlier this morning. I was stuck in a rut from the beginning of the week and couldn't come w/in .5 seconds of my 1:12.8xx run. I definitely didn't pick the fastest car, but it is so much fun to drive.

I can't wait to see how the results play out this week, and what is going to happen next week.

Good luck!!!

Currently compiling results, but have to wait for the deadline to make sure and straggers aren't missed.

It sounds like a 1 way LSD would have helped you out, Nat.

Well I guess a huge chunk of this series - for me at least - is going to be a learning exercise. Noy only will I have a chance to drive the cars a little better than I have in the past, but I'm already picking up on the numerous ways to improve a drag time, or avoid wheelspin.

I hadn't thought about an LSD and - with hindsight - it might have helped things quite a bit. I've got the first four races though to decide if I need to swap out my parts for the second half of the season :)

Forgive my ignorance, but with the LSD (1 way) installed, what do I then do with it to help wheelspin, or is it automatic?

The 1, 1.5, and 2 way LSDs can't be tuned. The 1 way locks the axles during acceleration only, to help wheelspin. 1.5 locks during acceleration and I think is partially locked at other times, not quite sure about it. 2 way locks during acceleration and deceleration, so it induces a lot of understeer. I'm running a 1 way in the Chevelle.

Well poo ... something to bear in mind for the half way mark of the season, that's for sure. I'd like to stick with the same car (I hate 'giving in' :p), but I can see that there are better parts I could have purchased.

STILL WAITING ON THESE PEOPLE FOR TIME:
Physics, bbinnel1440, redwolfracer, toke81, minorshunt, bhawk776

If you are amongst them and sent me a time, I do not appear to have any record of it: Please resend.

Results have been posted in post #1 of this thread :)

Congratulations to Jetboys for taming that monster bird, and to Jump_Ace and kenny for a closely fought 2nd and 3rd place.

A nicely packed center with Cuda's, Chargers, and Camaros all vying it out.

Congrats to the podium winners...and everybody that competed for that matter. I could really tell by readin' the thread there's alotta learnin' goinn' on. I must say my hat's really off to the 'Cuda drivers that's a tough ride to tame. I feel pretty good about breaking the 1'45 barrier! Great series Nat (and those that helped too).

Wow! If I knew I was that close I surely would have kept trying to improve even more.

Darn ;)

Congrats to the podium finishers

Sorry for not sumitting a time. I had a family emergency last night and did not get a chance to get home to be able to submit my time until tonight. :ouch:
