I don't know when but sometime this afternoon, the countdown dropped to 111 hours - four and a half days to go!
Same here. It was weird how I and others had a clock count down from 200, while others had it count down from 120. Looks like 200 was a mistake.

The amount of hype Hideo Kojima can create could power a small city for 2 weeks. :dopey: not my joke

And the amount of disappointment he brings could power that small city for and extra 10 days! 👍

Further speculation, brought on by a 7-eleven product listing.

Upcoming Famitsu to cover new Metal Gear game for PlayStation system

Unsurprisingly, there's a brand new Metal Gear game coming out. No, Kojima Production's countdown isn't over yet (that's later today!). A listing at a Japanese 7-Eleven product database reveals that an upcoming issue of Famitsu PSP+PS3 will feature a brand new Metal Gear game. The magazine is scheduled to ship next week on May 30.

We're pretty certain the upcoming Kojima Productions reveal is somehow tied to this upcoming Famitsu story. Considering the game will be featured in a PlayStation-exclusive magazine makes it a pretty safe bet that the game will arrive on either PS3 or PSP. Perhaps handheld players will get a chance at a new Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops experience -- Konami indicated its interest in a sequel over two years ago.

Come to think of it: A Portable Ops sequel would be cool too, or even a more flushed out Big Boss game for the PS3 that leads up to the events just prior to Metal Gear. Better yet, an explanation of where Big Boss has been since the Metal Gear games.

I can see it now, you get a gold trophy for letting the game run, but doing absolutely nothing for a week.

Oh wow.

Good one!

I really wish they'd release a new Metal Gear game. In retrospective and analizing all the game stories, I'd say that a good timeline spot to make a new game is when Snake and Jack rescue Sunny from the Patriots. Either that or a remake of the NES games, when Snake supposedly kills Big Boss. Twice.

I read about the Japan 7-11 stores listing the next PSP+PS3 magazine having a new MGS game a few days ago. Interesting stuff. Notice, it could be for PSP as well the PS3.

Oh, I'd be careful of the "pointing out items of interest" in those magazine scans. I've seen a lot of them, so far. Here's a few I like...

Want to know where the "tornado" rumor came from? Click the link below...

http://www.gamefly.com/game/ps3/Tornado-Outbreak/137550/

If it is a game about weather, then this is what we can maybe expect as far as Japanese Gods that control weather...

Kumori (ku-mo-ri) = Cloudy
Kaminari = Thunder and Lightning = God is Raijin and his companion Raiju
Hare (ha-re) = Sunny or Fine - Goddess of sun is Amaterasu
Yuki (yu-ki) = Snow or Snowy
Ame (a-me) = Rainy or rain
Kirisame or Mekaame = Drizzle

Hitoame = shower/rainfall
Ooame/taiu = heavy rainfall/downpour (like doshaburi or gouu?)
Kosame = light rain/drizzle
Fuuu = wind and rain/rainstorm
Boufuuuu = (violent) rainstorm
Harusame, shunu = spring rain/bean-jelly sticks ??
Shigure = an on-off again late autumn/early winter rain (shi = toki; is "gure" archaic or an alternate reading for rain?)
Saiu = Fine/misty rain, drizzle (sai = minute)
Raiu = Thunderstorm (rai = thunder)
Amamoyou/Amemoyou = signs of rain

RAIJIN (Raiden) = Japanese God of Thunder and Lightning

RAIJU = Raiden's Companion

AMATERASU = Goddess of Sun

FUTEN = Japanese God of wind

Yeah, Joystiq asked people to see what they could find and they got all sorts of crazy stuff back, so they made a couple of joke posts asking people to be serious or stop, all while showing the funniest ones as a "don't do this" thing.

i see maybe a hand at best. as for the snake thing i think there grabbing at straws but i could be wrong. but yea i remember it being at 200 but now its blow 100 and its back to flashing the 5 or S

man i wish we had stuff like that here in america. thats actually really cool that you can take the magazine and webcam and have that effect.

We do. GE did something similar.

Watching that website, I can't help but to think differently about it.

I imagine when the time is up, a message will pop, "Do you see Snake?" You will not find him for sometime. Looking around....concentrating on any suspicious movements along the tall yellow grass....Look around in the clouds...Then the trees.....

For some time later...

"AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH" *Some freaky scary pictures pops up as you get scared like HELL!"

Then the actual new game is showed.

Probably about using stealth actions and a pitch fork to stab crazy people. You would stealth around tall grasses and in dark places to make your kills.

Well, it looks like the countdown is over and a new one started. Meh. This one goes for 200 hours. That's 8.33 days, folks. Meh. Looks like the rumors of a five countdown counter were correct. Here is what we should expect...

mgsclouds.jpg

When I saw this image, I thought of Boktai...

Boktai 5... PSP2 exclusive... confirmed!

Zone of the Enders 3?

You know how bad I want it to be ZOE3?

Just imagine... PS3 exclusive, 1080P and 60 frames to make the fanboys weep! Make it happen, Kojima!

Considering how fun the MG battle was, I would be happy if it was indeed a new ZOE

This picture has nothing to do with any game, its just using MGS style art, something KOKIMA games are famous for.
It just shows how many countdowns there will be.
We had CLOUDY, STORMY, now rainy.. bit more to go before SUNNY ONE and ! one to announce the game.

So far, the countdown site shows these letters/symbols.

E53e35Ee53Ee35EeE3 etc etc..

I think you missed the entire first page. :)

Did anybody else see the new "Kojima (Konami)" game yet?

Hold on to your butts... (WARNING! Possible spoilers!)

New Ocelot soda? Nummy...

The new flash sequence is up and running, and take a look for a full minute!

Big Boss without the timer if you want it.

Some people see a 'figure moving' where it's indicated in this pic. Do you see anything during the flash?

Wow! Raiden and Big Boss! Notice Raiden has his left eye covered, like Solidus! Wow!

It looked like just a corrupted image. I'm surprised no one has seen any secret Nazi swastikas yet.

Hmmm... Raiden's eyes are blue, not red, ya? ****in' Kojima...

Maybe we get to be a Ranger now?

Give it time. ;)

Oh, and the latest rumor is this game will be on the XBox220. Do MS have a HD-DVD player game for this console yet? I know this game wont fit on a DVD.

Oh, and another rumor is the XBox253.5 will get a MGS1 remake.

I thought there was already a Xbox 220? It's called the Wii.

Metal Gear: Snake's Revenge remake, exclusive for Xbox 220 + waggle, confirmed.

Snake's Revenge...

Notice, Big Boss' eyes are blue in the pic? (Big Boss' eyes are green. Snake's are blue.)

What color eyes do Frank Yaeger have?

EDIT: Part of that Fatmitsu interview has been translated. Looks like a game for the XBox303British and the PS3...

Raiden Appears in New Metal Gear
Hideo Kojima directing and designing new title.
by John Tanaka

May 26, 2009 - While the Kojima Productions teaser site is still teasing away in anticipation of what will presumably be a big E3 unveil for the Metal Gear studio's next project, leaks from this week's Famitsu appear to have spoiled the surprise.

The magazine has an interview with Metal Gear series father Hideo Kojima who says that he's serving as director and designer on the new game, which the magazine confirms to be a new Metal Gear Solid title. While not giving away the title, Kojima does say that it's a proper entry series.

The big reveal from the last teaser site update was an image of Big Boss. The Famitsu report also shows an image of Raiden. We presume this image will appear at the site when the new countdown strikes zero on Monday.

As for the actual content of the interview, it's a bit difficult to make out what's said as Famitsu censored the text by covering up key characters with white circles.

Here's what happens when we translate some of the text while keeping the circles in place (replaced with Xs):

Famitsu: Is the generation XXX?

Kojima: No, it's XXX. If I were to say it all, perhaps XXXXX. I'm currently doing the game design and direction.

Famitsu: Really!

Kojima: I believe Japan will be the focus, but it will be sold throughout the world. Within me, this is XXXX. I won't say it's X, but I am making a proper story, and it is being made by the MGS4 staff.

Famitsu: Really! That's amazing.

Elsewhere, the interview touches a bit upon the content of the game:

Kojima: The mark on the old man's hat is very important

Famitsu: This mark is different from a fox. It's like a world map.

Kojima: Not just the mark, but the game systems are also new.

Famitsu: Is it XX-XXXXXXXXXX?

Kojima: Yes. We'll be doing stuff that one would expect of XXXXXXX. XXXX and so-forth are obvious, so those will be included. Uh-oh... I said stuff that was unplanned (laughs)

Famitsu also asked Kojima about the setting. "The setting is XXXXXXX," responded Kojima. Apparently, something called "XXXXXXXXX" happened in this location, leaving it as a "XXXXX" country.

Confused? That's probably the point!

If we have any sudden revelations about all those Xs, or if other areas of the interview yeild anything newsworthy, we'll let you know.

After seeing that Big Boss image I am officially psyched. There are so many stories in the timeline that could still be told.

And after seeing the ending of MGS4 I could think of a few ways a game with he and Raiden both could play out. It would be weird, but this is Kojima we are talking about.

Since I imagine this being a long way off I just hope an MGS1 game on PSN for PS One Classics (on ESRB's list) is released to coincide with this announcement. My PSP would never be left at home.

It's very definately another METAL GEAR game, as the timer hasbeen repalced with a second one that should expire some time around Monday; no prizes for guessing it will coincide with Sony's press conference at E3.

I'm actually quite surprised no-one has posted this yet considering that this is taken from the site:

It's Big Boss. Who else could it be? And that logo on his beret reads 'militares sans frontieres', or 'militaries without borders'. Outer Heaven, anyone? Combined with the first signs of white appearing in his beard, I'm guessing this game is probably going to be set some time in the mid-to-late 1980s as Big Boss was still relatively young in SNAKE EATER (set in 1964) and PORTABLE OPS (six years later, making it 1970) - I can't recall his age ever being given exactly, but I'm guessing he'd be in his early or mid-thirties at this stage - but he had a full head of Sean Connery-esque white hair come Operation Intrude N313 (circa 1995). I'm also guessing the 1980s - late 1983 and early 1984 to be exact - because the Cuban Missile Crisis played a major role in the events leading up to SNAKE EATER, an the Able Archer 83 incident (the Soviet Union believed the NATO wargames code-named Able Archer 83 were a pretext for war) is considered to be the closest the world has come to a nuclear exchange since the Cuban Missile Crisis.

Yeah, it's Big Boss. I forgot that his eyes are blue. Snake's are green. My mistake.

It appears this game is set in two different times; one for Big Boss era sometime after MGS3 and one for Raiden era sometime after MGS2.

This is page three of the thread. I didn't bother reading page one today because I didn't know you were updating it.

Maybe it features Raiden pre-SONS OF LIBERTY. After all, the lightning is simply a representation of him; how on earth could Kojima present him if the game follows his time before FOXHOUND? We don't know what he looked like, so this could simply be a way of saying Raiden is in the game. After all, it is Kojima doing this. It makes sense given that he fought in the Liberian (I think) civil wars and Outer Heaven was located in South Africa. I could see a plot revolving around Big Boss trying to hurt the Patriots by huntin down the Russian and Chinese arms of the Philosophers. Then again, it's been a while since I've played anything, so I can't recall what happened to them. It'd make a better story though: we already know everything about the Patriots, so the series needs a new antagonist.

EDIT: If this post makes little sense, it's because I've been fighting a head cold for the past two days and I'm currently loaded with pseudoephedrine to fight it. Still feel like I've been hit over the head with a lead pipe, though ...

Maybe we get to fight Gray Fox one more time!
On May 26, 2009, the Kojima Productions viral campaign website revealed a high resolution CGI render of Big Boss, along with another timer that begins at 116 hours.[98]
I wonder if the time itself has to do with something. ( instead of the release of another 116 hours time limit). I wonder if we could use Clover field tips. Did Kojima contact Abrams?

Is this going to be on the 360 or not? I hope not...

Did Kojima contact Abrams?
Hideo Kojima is so much more sophisticated than that hack. If nothing else, Kojima understands the most basic need to tell a complete story; with Abrams you need to watch the making-ofs, the mobisodes, follow the websites and play the games - whether video or alternate reality - and it somehow gets marketed as being clever when all he's really doing is forcing you to go beyond the film or television series to understand it. I'm all for a complex mythology and background to the story, but not when you have to pay to use three different sources simply to understand the most basic of premises. His pacing is pretty poor, too: the main events of the first episode of LOST - the plane crash - weren't explained until the third-season finale (and it was pretty damn obvious what had happened by that stage to everyone except the characters). Kojima-san may take his time explaining things, but he has the gift of a storyteller in that he can time his revelations for maximum effect. If comparisons are to be drawn, I'd say Kojima has moe in common with Joss Whedon: both spend time looking at the philosophical consequences of the main characters, primailry in what it means to be human (you can't tell me that Snake's story as a clone intended as a weapon doesn't explore that).

But I digress; I have no real point.

Somehow, I did forget those tags again but thanks for the explanation.
