As Smallhorses has pointed out, 100k using only stock is not doable. As you posted in the stock car-thread, the combined total of all the posts there are about 78,000.
Based on that, I'd estimate my own haul from stock cars to be about 70,000.

Though I try to race stock as much as possible, I'll use ballast and lesser tires if the need is there. Like in the various one-model manufacturers races (Audi A3, Crossfire, etc.) These races can often be won cleanly with full ballast, N2-tires and suspension and transmission upgrades for about 120 points.

Smallhorses, after you beat me to getting all the cars, I felt I needed to beat you to 100k.. :sly:

But you'll get there too, though if you're going the FGT-route for the remaining points it will indeed take some time.👍

Seriously though, the driving skills necessary to win so many hard races without NOS is quite beyond me.

While my driving skills still improve incrementally, they will remain far far short of the rest of you.

If all goes to plan, I'll hit exactly 100,000 A-spec points on gameday 3500 with a stock 200pt entry in a car that was born in the same year that I was! :D

I have noticed that if you do a mission hall race you will get 250 A-spec points so that could help a few people.

This is news soooo old, it's not funny. :rolleyes:
The game has been out since 2005, don't you think that maybe we've noticed it by now? Especially since there are people here that've hit maximum points already?

and the spreadsheet breakdown of the points earned to give me 100,000 points by hall, and averaged by hall. (I only counted down to 100,000 exactly in the "Points Remaining" column as I've not been aiming for absolute maximum.)

All of this has, of course been accomplished by & large absolutely cleanly, with no shortcutting, wallriding, AI barging (although there have been incidental minor wall & AI touches), and with no assistance from B-spec or NOS. 👍

I know you have been working on that 100,000 a long, long time.

So glad to see you made it, and welcome to the ranks.

I'm also glad you made it without having to compromise your game standards, which makes it truly a unique accomplishment.

Sadly, most times compensation won't work.
You can add NOS with no A-spec penalty and yet decimate the competition because of it. :yuck:
If you upgrade tyres, you immediately begin to lose A-spec points because of the increase in grip. :indiff:
Obviously I've not run all races (but I have done a lot of them) to maximum points, just the ones I like most (endurances, and longer races :)), and the rest to high enough levels to reach 100,000. (I'm not keen on 1 or 2 lap races.)
A lot of them in the manufacturers series were run with N tyres, and many times those that didn't need N tyres to boost the A-spec points sufficiently were run on S1s.
There are a few exceptions of course where S3s, or in the case of Suzuki Concepts race R3s did make an enormous difference, to the unfavourably powerful AI competetion, but it was definitely the exception rather than the rule.
Most enduros were run on R1 or R2 tyres if permitted on race cars, and generally S1 tyres for road cars. Again the big exception was the Roadster 4hrs Endurance where I've run a couple of cars on N1s to begin, to up the points tally, but switched to N3s to allow me to keep up, and Laguna Seca where all the AI cars run R2 tyres and you'll not stand a cat in hell's chance of keeping up on N tyres unless you're in something way, way overpowered to compensate, which, of course, means a reduction in A-spec points due to high power. :crazy: (I ran R1 tyres on a couple of stock NSXs here and had some great races.)
For the most part, I've raced on tyres the same as, or worse than my competition, rather than better.
 
Well done, quite an accomplishment to get 100,000 points and even more so given the obvious disadvantages you faced. Wish I could have got to my current total in the same manner.

True... Personally, I've grown to think that A-spec points are largely irrelevant, partly because of inconsistencies like this.
In my view - as it is now - GT4 doesn't award nearly enough points for driving on seriously inferior tyres to the AI (since it often means you get decimated even in 9-points races), yet it doesn't detract points at all if you add NOS.
Ok, you can choose not to use it in a race even if it's added, so it doesn't automatically up your advantage - contrary to tyres or turbo - but still, it just doesn't make sense.

For the most part, I've raced on tyres the same as, or worse than my competition, rather than better.

A laudable achievement, I'd say, as far as gaming goes. Especially since most regular GT gamers wouldn't go through so much trouble, just slap R2's on.

Personally, due to the points discrepancies above I've just about stopped caring about A-spec points though (besides, some simranking systems I've been in were both much harder, more realistic and much more gratifying - been there, done that). Instead, been going more for winning races/cups on regular N2's for street cars (no aids/no downforce), irrespective of how many A-points it gives... but then you *need* NOS or other tune-ups in many races. Some can be done stock, others definitely can't.

Personally, I think it would've been better if PD had implemented an AI strength setting like in the Family Cup races (-10 for ultra-weak, 10 for unbeatable) and then coupled the A-spec points to that. And then only award points or cups if you set the strength to let's say at least "1" (above average), so you'd have something to shoot for. (And while I'm dreaming, make the AI aggression level configurable like in Nascar2003.)
I don't like the rather dimwitted idea of having 1 or 2-lap races either - the Ring excepted - , since 2-lap races basically make no sense, and especially since your tyres often never get up to temperature until right before the finish line. I'd drive the Family races a lot more if they'd been longer.

Still, now that you've managed 100,000 I'd say you're probably ready to venture out to bigger and better things; maybe even try a real sim :mischievous: ;)
 
An impressive achievement, Smallhorses, to score so many points while denying oneself so many obviously available aids in the realms of questionable driving tactics, oxygenated fuel, extensive use of optional parts and tuning, and even the valuable assistance of B-spec for research and wear down. You have my sincere admiration!

Surely this feat could have been no accident. You planned and intended to play the game this way from the beginning, no? I'd like to think this ascetic and disciplined approach appealed to you because of previous experience in this or other games. Is this correct? If so, then possibly you will move on to another game since you have clearly achieved the major summit by climbing the route in the most aesthetically satisfying alpine style. But it would be unimaginable for our beloved SuperModerator to abandon his mountain and his merry band of climbers!?! By all means, tell us your plans.👍

In terms of GT4 goals, I can check everything I wanted to do off now.
Gold licences & completed missions were done before starting a single race - check.
Second goal was to earn and drive at least one of every car in the game, preferably winning a race in each, but in terms of special cars they were given a couple of laps of Nurb' in most cases, Trial Mountain in the Model T's case and Tsukuba in terms of the 1886 Benzs - check.
3rd goal was to hit 100,000 Aspec without NOS, deliberately dirty driving and keeping Bspec stats at 0-0-0-0 - check.
I'm proud of the fact that I was able to stick to my guns and not cave into the "easy way out" in many cases and have tried in many cases to do things the hard way, some successfully, others not so well!

The "drive every car thing" and "win with as little modification & power as possible" came from my 3rd pass through GT3 when I opted to complete the game with some mileage on each and every vehicle available, which was much easier to keep track of since every vehicle started with 0.0miles and you could sort the garage by mileage.
With 700+ vehicles in GT4 and some that're used it became a much harder task requiring a spreadsheet or 2 to keep track of!!
I'd initially started GT4 with the intention of doing what it took to win as high A-spec points as possible for each race, but not reusing a car more than once per series or race, or repeating a race or series (unless I'd won the championship, but not necessarily all the races within said series) purely for cash until I'd hit 100% (I got very, very close, but had to repeat a Special conditions event to buy the last Group C / LMP car to enter Real Circuit Tours, a mighty expensive tournament when you have to enter 8 individual races in 8 different cars! :scared:)
This meant earning cash at the highest rate possible, by running the championship style races first as they're the most lucrative. It meant though that all cash was required for car purchases and I had nothing to spend on modifications. I then discovered the Stock Car thread, and became hooked on that, and as a spinoff also discovered many folks posting in there were the founder members of the 100,000 club too.
Right now I've no real desire to push beyond 100,000, and may go off, like I did with GT3 to discover the least powerful and most unusual cars capable of winning some of the endurance races, which I'd keep reporting on.
(I'd love to figure out if a fully modified Fiat 500 is capable of winning Nurb' 4hr! Probably not, but it'll be fun to try! I feel a need to win NY200 mile in a proper American Muscle car like the 'Cuda or Charger now that points don't matter.)
Or I'm going to see what's still going on in the Spot Races & Laptimes area, which GT4 race series are currently running and participate in some of those, so look out for me over there.
I've never used the Photo Travel mode or visited the Vegas Drag strip in GT4, so maybe I'll check those out too.

Ideally, the best thing is, that now my goals are out of the way, I can concentrate on sorting out the next SFGTP installment, since even though racing the AI and playing GT4 in career mode is a lot of fun and the Aspec quest has kept this game exciting for over 4 years, there's nothing quite so much fun in GT4 as LAN racing with 5 other human opponents. ;)

In terms of other games, I'm not much of a "gamer" as it were, I don't feel the need to go off and play GTA, COD, WOW or suchlike, nor will I take up RaidoGT's invitation of a "real" sim such as iRacing, since it means buying, configuring and maintaining a high-spec PC, and I'm just not inclined to do that. I spend enough of my time at work working through corrupted software, operating system failures and hard-drive / motherboard failures to want to spend any of my leisure time doing the same things, so, less "real" as they may be, I'm sticking to console gaming and the acceptance of compromise that has to go with that, in terms of being not "hardcore" enough for the serious racer, but not so hard that a normal gamer is turned off from it and the gaming manufacturer fails to recoup it's investment in terms of sales, thus preventing them from making future releases, which is the dilemma that PD faces - Something which is borne out through the existence of this thread and the dedicated "racers" within here who've stepped up to some of the hardest challenges the game has to offer, if you so chose to accept them, and this thread's antithesis which is currently on the front page of the GT4 forum which is advising people of the "best" 1 A-spec point car to decimate every series with no concern for racing talent, for the "gamers", and the fact that the most asked question in the GT4 forums is "Why can't I complete GTWC?" when the "gamers" suddenly have their overpowered and undertalented nature exposed!

A PS3 is on my horizon though...;)

You've done a great job reaching this milestone with your self-imposed restrictions that made your task much more arduous. My NOS enhanced victories pale in comparison.

Congratulations Smallhorses on an incredible achievement! 👍 :) I must bow down to you as I'll probably cave in and use nitrous on my run to 100,000A-spec pts. I'm currently at 89,632 A-spec pts. with only 2 FGT races to go on only my 2nd GT4 save to hit 100%. I deleted all the other saves due to not planning races right in order to run a particular car or not driving clean enough.
 
First I offer my own belated congrats to Smallhorses, way to go man! Here I was thinking you'd reached 100K ages ago. Definitely a very admirable achievement, and so much more so given the handicaps you gave yourself. I seriously doubt I could do the same without going completely insane.

Secondly I humbly request my own inclusion in this most estimable group of GT4 drivers. Here's my screenie:

I wasn't expecting to ever have my stats show an even 100000, it was a total fluke. I couldn't manage 200 points in the Saleen race at Infineon (the first one I did), and I switched to N3/N3 for 174 points instead. When I went to save I noticed I had an even 99,800 points and I thought to myself "too bad there's no way I'll ever earn 200 points at one of these damn S7 races". Then I tried El Capitan for the same 174 points and realized I could do that race easily for 200. And all of a sudden, much to my surprise, I had an even 100000 points! I've done 2 more 174 point S7 races since, but I thought I'd take my screenie of the nice round figure.

Anyway, I remember shortcutting one time on one lap of one race (at a grossly uneven Fuji 90's race I can't recall the specifics of, or even if I re-did it without shortcutting or not). I wallrode all over the hard Ice Arena and Chamonix races, but that was it for wallriding because I hate it as much I hated those Ice Arena and Chamonix (and most of the Special Condtions) races. There's at least 2 Motegi Oval races I won't ever get the max on because of my distaste for wallriding.

I used NOS but I never put it on a race car, with the exception of rally cars used in Special Conditions (Escort Rally Car and an Imprezza Rally Car). I tried to only use the NOS in situations where it was hopeless for me not to. With the way PD half-assed the A-Spec points system though, that was relatively often I'm afraid. I don't feel too bad about it though because of the way PD half-assed the A-Spec points system.

I definitely have no compunctions regarding aggresive driving though. I've been pushed into the sand by 10-ton slot-car opponents far too many times to care at all about smashing into them. I do try to avoid it, but when it happens I just say "meh".

The first thing I did in-game was train up B-Spec Barbara using a script from here to get her to 7400 points. I've since A-Spec'd every race that Barbara drove during her training, and I've only used Barbara for DTM money-runs and for 3 FGT races which I just couldn't do for full points with the setup I had. I've done 1 of those FGT races in A-Spec since, but I still have 2 to go. I'm pretty sure that those 2 are the only races which have gone towards my completion percentage and which I still haven't actually run in A-Spec yet. I fully intend to do them in A-Spec eventually, and otherwise, Barbara has only been running down cars at the Test Course.

Gotta say I was a lot more enthused about GT4 before getting around to some of the more ridiculous races. I truly despise the entire concept of being down on power and on grip and being expected to have a chance. Especially on 2-3 lap races with no practice available. Every race you need N1s or N2s to get full points is a failure by PD in my eyes. In older GT games, I used to love doing weight reductions and beating opponents on lightweight-ness and less power alone. PD really killed that for me.

Anyway, it's still GT and despite the obscene level of flaws PD left in GT4, I still love it and I'm proud to have managed reaching this level.

A massively huge, massively heartfelt thank you goes to everyone who's ever posted in this forum. I won't single anyone out as there'd surely be many others I'd fail to remember to mention. I definitely would not have had the patience to search out fields and cars for every single series without all your help. THANKS!

imtheleprechaun, congratulations on reaching the pot o' gold :). I see the club is gaining more and more members, Thank our lucky stars that GT5 is taking so long to come out that people are still playing GT4.
 
Thanks guys! I couldn't have done it without so many persons like yourselves making so many informative posts!

My win ratio is definitely artifically inflated from resetting a lot. However it's also artifically deflated a smidgen from at least one lineup hunt where I seem to have saved the game or got in another car or something, instead of resetting like I should have. I tried to stick to only resetting if I failed to at least earn a trophy, but I have a tendency to obsess over stats so I did do a lot of resets. Like my use of NOS and occassional smashing into opponents however, I'm not too bothered about it because PD failed to provide enough information before race-start to determine the level of competition. You basically start every race totally clueless as to how winnable it is. If I start a new game once I reach 100% I think I will use my spreadsheet to help me out in that regard, and try not resetting at all for my win ratio's sake.

Anyway, thanks again! It's very satisfying having made it to this level.
