game is great.......feels like real cars with my g27. Im 30 years old. first racing game...pole position on the Atari 7200

I think PD has got their physics worked out very well. same with the streetbike game tourist trophy.....built off the gt4 platform. still to this day T.T. is the best bike game EVER made.

PDI has it it figured out in their physics that it makes the cars (and bikes,T.T.) move through the track and not like most every other game that the track seems to move through the cars.

great thread. AWESOME SIMULATOR/GAME.

complainers will always complain I guess old or young!

Agreed, physics wise GTs have within technolgical limits been spot on, GT5 is definitly the best by a mile. Totally agree about TT as well, I love biking (have had several over the years) and have never felt happy with bikes games until TT, That game is spot on, still play it now!

Another thing I'll say that sets the GTs above every single other racing game is the replays. No-one else has done what PD has done, the replays in GT really make me feel I'm watching a real car, NOT by the graphics but by the beahviour of the car on it's wheels. I've played countless sims on everything from the dreamcast to PCs to modern consoles and the GTs blow everything else away. Other games just either look unreal or put me more in mind of RC cars than real cars.

Lose the final comment there please.

Robo6 regarding the replays, spot on.

When you get the chance to play online do it, because when you've had an epic battle with a clean racer, the replays ( and dont anyone laugh) well its like watching those classic F1, touring car battles.

You can sit and watch where you or your opponent went wide, outbraked you and so forth.

Amazing, it really is.

love this thread!

GT5 is more than a game imo, and going to this forum on a daily basis proves that. (a first for me)

I'm a veteran gamer too, first it was Test Drive on the C64, then I got Rad Racer w/Zelda on my Nes in '86. Then, years later, it was Test Drive again on the 3DO

Finally, a driving game that borders realism:)

Hard Driven' in the arcades was a early influence too.

Recreating these "driving" memories with a cockpit, seat, wheel and GT5 has really made me enjoy the best immersive experience I've ever had in my 25 years of gaming.
I love the class, the polish, the professionalism that GT brings to the video game market, and I'll always support the incredible hyper-realistic franchise:tup:

Sadly I really can't do online. I can only race at certain times and when I have dabbled with other games online I get nervous and make too many mistakes. I also have a condition called Social Anxiety that increases any nerves I have. Maybe one day I'll pluck up the courage and GT5 will gain another plus point.

Can't agree more about the replays. 👍

Don't worry Sir I won't laugh. LOL ! I spent countless hours replaying heated-overtaking maneuvres analyzing it and looking for the perfect photograph shot...

robo6 , i usually come last, some days i spend more time on the grass, admiring the flaking paint on the barrier.

Well if you ever wish to join a friendly and relaxed lobby you are welcome :-)

The more you do it the easier it gets but you probably know that already. You just need to take that leap. Please feel free to FR me and join in just for fun. No pressure. Everyone is quite chilled and there to help too.

Reading this thread really has been very refreshing and a trip down memory lane 👍

I can still remember racing against my father on my ZX Spectrum in some incarnation of a F1 simulator, Paul Ricard was a favourite track!

It was called Chequered Flag, first racing game I ever played on a home computer. A friend of mine snapped the top of his finger backwards and had to snap it back again from pushing down on the rubber keys too hard. He just had to beat my lap time. Good times.

GT5 is pretty much all I've played for a year. As with other GTs you find your own fun. 1,000 toy cars for me to play with. The child in me is happy.

can't wait for a tt 2 some day with online mode!!!

there still isn't a newer gen game that is as good as tt is overall but they have better "LOOKING" games now but SUCK for feel.

and yes the replays are AWESOME. went in an a SPA shuffle race room earlier and had some really good fun. SOOOOOOO Competitive, I never did a shuffle race before cause I didn't know what it was........host picks PP category and it randomly picks you a car in those categories in a "shuffle" like a slot machine when you select ENTER COURSE. All the cars sounded great because they were not all tuned up and changed in sound

drove a newer dodge charger as my first shuffle race and it sounded amazing will have to go back and mess with my exhausts for that rumble..then I drove a GTR and an audi a6 and they sounded great too.

for those that haven't tried online shuffle races have a go at it. really good fun and great replays with how competitive it is

Ive said it before and ill say it again, the only people who complain about GT5 are freaking kids

Us people in the '8 bit generation' (and prior, in baly's case) seem to have no complaints

When I was a kid, racing games looked like this

NES_Rad_Racer.png

What do you mean? You don't still play that. I don't think I have Rad Racer, but I've been known to bust out RC ProAM and Excite Bike.

When GT5 hits it's highs, they are SO HIGH. Where it excels it SERIOUSLY excels. Which if people here could only understand makes those elements that don't hit those heights seem all the more worse. GT5 is a victim of it's own excellence and the excellence of the previous GTs.

That about sums up my feelings on GT5.

Ha ha! I have Rad Racer, Excitebike, and Outrun on their original consoles, and I've played them recently... it helps keep the excited geek in me when I play a game like GT5.

Im 26 and you can't really consider that a kid anymore. The game does have it's strong short comings. Theres no need to deny them.

I'm another 30 year old child :) Been hooked since GT1
This year i treated myself to a gameracer and a G27 (Best investments ever!!)
I've mainly played GT5 for the last year, No other game gets much use

Every time something new comes out, it lasts a week or so before i go back to GT5

We are so lucky to have a game that keeps evolving via feedback (be it good or bad) to PD who in return, Update and repair the game as we play thanks to the almighty interweb 👍

It doesn't seem that long ago that if you didn't like something about a game, you either dealt with it or sold it. GT5 just keeps getting better 👍

Thanks both I'll attempt to pluck up the courage. 👍

Seriously what a game! I was having so much fun just now fooling around a rally track in a range rover. There's just so many things still to learn and explore! We can drive go kart, formula one car, LMP, road cars, rally car, I think what they should put next is amphibious car maybe? and a tank with functioning turret ?
It deserves the slogan " the real driving simulator"

Range Rover. Thanks for reminding me. I was waiting for the right day. SPA DAY.

I think this car would classify as a unique and wanted car. To me, it is. I want it. 👍

Warning: It's photoshopped. just in case

Truly a fantastic game. 👍 I'll say it once, one hundred or a thousand times and it's true. GT5.

Hi all, I'm a 40 year gamer also and have recently joined gtplanet. What I will say about the majority of responses in this thread is that I can relate to the old days of virtua racing on the sega saturn, and how this was the first racing game that I truly enjoyed, before GT1 came out. GT5 whilst I was slightly disappointed when I first started playing GT5, probably because I had become accustomed to NFS Hot Pursuit arcade feel, the updates and spec 2 have made this the most enjoyable racer I've played, so much so that I've been awake until the early hours either trying to progress in Aspec or trying to get a respectable time on the online seasonal time trials.

Anyway just like to say a tup, to all that make a positive contribution on gtplanet, especially those who have helped me get my car set up right to be able to drive competitively.

As a mature gamer I haven't tried any online racing, as I wanted to complete most of A Spec mode. As I'm now at level 38 I would welcome any invites from mature gamers for some clean, fun online racing.

Cheers.
