Ive said it before and ill say it again, the only people who complain about GT5 are freaking kids

Us people in the '8 bit generation' (and prior, in baly's case) seem to have no complaints

When I was a kid, racing games looked like this

At last! Someone who puts things in perspective. Pees me off when these young kids slate todays games or say "Forza looks crap", just because they own gt5. No it doesn't. It looks amazing.

The same attitude with other things in life too. People who say the iphone or all android phones are crap just because they have alliance to the other. If you'd grown up when the Nokia 3210 was around, you'd appreciate all of todays offerings.

Driving this at 150 mph last night was absolute pure terror.

No other racing game does that to me. And i have been gaming since SNES mario kart days.

Totally agree with the fact that most kids are spoiled so much with all the glitz and glamour of todays entertainment/gaming world, and then have the balls to come out and whine about this and that as if there's other games 10 leaps ahead. When you compare GT to those 2-3 PC sims, which people love to do, it's a no-brainer which game has the best presentation and content that everybody can relate to. The graphics are the foundation of any racing game these days and PD have layed down the best of the best in that department so far. As far as the physics they're pretty damn good especially after 2.0, but I'm sure Kaz wants to perfect this more than anybody, so I say give them a bit more time with that.

No matter what, I'm confident Kaz's vision is to set the bar even higher in the future, so that no other developer will have the oppertunity reaching their standard. I guess I just love the professional and and more mature layout of GT games. As far as approvements, they really only need to worry about refining physics and adding content, and I'm sure PD already have a vision for some brand new features in GT6. They know Microsoft could potentially put them to shame (only because of their funds), but the thing that lacks within their team I believe is the passion, and this cannot be denied. I hope the DLC's pay off for PD so they can expand their team and stay well ahead of Forza. As far as PC sims ever catching up, it's just too unlikely, there's not enough money in PC gaming.

Heartily agreed with the theme of this thread - and it is all especially true for us *cough* over 30's that grew up with the very bare bones of racing games. I can still remember racing against my father on my ZX Spectrum in some incarnation of a F1 simulator, Paul Ricard was a favourite track!

I have been slowly working my way through test driving all of my standard cars (over 800 of them now) and irrespective of their shortcomings from the premium counterparts there are some real treasures among them. It's not all about horsepower either, some of the best fun can be had with a tiny slow car on a tight city track ;)

Thinking back to the first time I saw the Outrun full sit-in motion arcade machine, it blew my neon socks off and I could never have imagined the level of detail we have pouring out of a little box in our own front rooms... I feel very lucky to have been able to witness such progression :)

just because the games are obviously leaps and bounds better than those of 20+ years ago doesn't mean everything is rosy with them and we should just accept them, no matter the condition, just because they are much better.
And some people just can't concede that GT5 is still a good racer for most of us. Or how far it has advanced. And is still advancing. ;)

We can always count on certain people to try and school us on how silly we are for admiring GT5.

Driving this at 150 mph last night was absolute pure terror.
I... have to do this...

Anyway, the original poster sounds like me. Long time gamer, and long time admirer of Gran Turismo. While it took GT2 to finally hook me and reel me in, I've been hooked ever since. The naysayers are right that this isn't the GT5 most of us wanted. But unlike Simon above, most of us have dealt with the issues and moved on, because the rest of the game is simply brilliant. And the only real alternative is Forza, which is a nice game, does some things really well. But it's a copy from a monopoly, and like most copies, it's just not the same, or quite as good overall, regardless of any "completeness" or "finishedness" it has.

No racing game has the flavor, or spirit, or finesse or passion that a Gran Turismo game has, and that's what keeps most of us devoted to it. Even a game which is "unfinished" or half baked." I have Forza 4, I want to race it, much of it I can like and admire. Some of it I want to see in Gran Turismo. But its issues are worse, it's just not Gran Turismo, so at the end of the day I come back to the real deal and race my butt off all over again. Because I love this game. Warts and all, it's simply splendid.

P.S. Dittos to everything occasionalracer said. And grrlpurple. I have well over a thousand Standard cars in various stages of stock and upgrade. 👍

Back in the days this WAS our racing cockpit. Very glad I get to see how the cockpit view has gracefully evolved into what I get today.

Go PD !

Now I know why the view is too low in every cockpit cam racer.

And I can play it for hours and hours and have no complains about it other than that I sucked. And the most important thing is that I enjoyed it.

Really insulting post. I'm 40 and been gaming since 1982 and the ZX spectrum, yes GT5 is good, but it still has flaws, something some of you selfish effers don't care about because YOU enjoy it.

Seriously where do some of you selfish prats get off....do you like it that you enjoy something that someone does not? does it make you feel more of a man?

I've lurked here since gt3, joined some time after gt4, and it's only GT5 that has caused such a schism on this site. There are some TRULY nasty small minded people on this forum.

I would say that Seans comments are simply how the game has affected him in his experience with it. I don't think he at all was not considering that others seek improvements.

I'm certainly not good enough to get to a level where I'm able to comment of some of the improvements wanted, but was certainly able to express what I have enjoyed of the game, which I think is what this thread was titled for us to share.

Not sure those comments are just in this case.

Pole Position was my favorite game as a kid growing up. Rad Racer was my favorite on NES, alongside Super Monaco.

GT5 is pretty damned good.

Forget proof reading, I'm just saying it.

Obviously, that sort of a statement sean made was only to point out how unrelenting some of the GT5 and PD "haters" act. It wasn't aimed at anyone in particular, and this isn't that disappointment thread.

No, a lot of us like to keep positive, but because you've held a grudge against me since I've joined for being one of the few people who would defend PD and GT5 for reasons that you can't seem to understand, the fact is you were/are selfish to think we shouldn't have any good thoughts.

Some people who hate to see me and others defend PD's honor LOVE to say we never mention any of the negatives that GT5 has. Well, because I have so much time on my hands, I've tripled the amount of posts you have since I've joined in March, so you can't possibly believe all I say is Biased or any nonsense like that. Truth of the matter, you have no idea how many times I've mentioned the disappointments of GT5 and many of the decisions Kaz made that could EASILY be changed. A lot of them have been answered with Spec 2, I'm not spewing BS. But there are so many changes still need to be made, no one ever means it's perfect in the literal sense you guys always like to abuse.

You can't possibly believe the others are TRULY nasty small minded people when you NEVER EVER budge. All you do is point out negatives and bash others for strongly disagreeing. Some are more "nasty" than others because you give us no choice. You change not, so why do we care what you think about us when we reply to you in just the same negative tones as you always do about everything?

Forget how not completely Lucid I'm explaining this to you, we all behave a certain way towards the negative people on here because we just don't care. I never see you say anything that really contributes. Never any help, help is what a forum is meant to offer. With as little time that you're on and with as little as you've been posting, I know this to be mostly true.

Unlike my horrid calculations like I made in the other thread, I know I'm right about this. There are SOOOOO many times I don't reply to comments because of the fear of actually saying something "nasty". Like I said before, we're all guilty, but YOU are on GTPlanet and need to appreciate that a lot of us are FANBOYS. I try to stay as unbiased as possible using opinions and not stating facts any chance I get, but I don't even need to worry about that as much any more, because a lot of the FM fanboys are on Forzaplanet now.

Well glad to see fellow gamers who enjoy driving games as i do in the same
manner as my original post.

I would however respectfully ask to avoid assuming that younger people may not how good they have it as the majority probably love the game for the same reasons i/we do.

As for one of the responses by someone of a similar age to me, all i can say is its only a game man, if i buy something which gives me such dissatisfaction and anger then i get rid of it.

Anyway thats as controversial as i wish to get.

My OP and its views still stand.

Well I sorta dont agree with that although alot of kids wont enjoy this game or any "simulator".
But this is the place for people to voice their gripes with the game.I still dont get how people assume just because there are alot of " complainers" on here that means the majority feels that way.I think the people who actually enjoy the game spend more time actually playing the game then arguing with the complainers on this site, or on this section of the site.Because you go to other sub forums of this forum you barely see complaint threads.

Like I said its the best GT ive played and the only game ive played longer than GT5 is MW2 and thats only because of online whereas its equal with GT5 online and offline.

I agree with this and your OP.
I'd be the last to say GT is complete. (OK, second last after Kaz)
I think what I was trying to say is, I appreciate what GT5 is because myself and fellow gamers my age are aware that it takes more than five years and four previous titles to get it to where it is today.
You can't fix all of GT5 or Forza's shortcomings with simple copy and paste.
I'm happy with GT5. More than happy, because I know just how far we've come in the last twenty years and just how far forward the next twenty years of innovation will bring us.

I'm not so sure many of the latest generation of gamers realise this.

Wow... thanks for the memories. Rad Racer, Outrun, Pole Position... Like some have alluded to; I wonder what it'll be like in 20 years?

We are just enjoying the game and the point is the majority of the older crowd have nothing really to complain about.

I still marvel at the fact I have a driving simulator in my living room. I guess some of us are just happy with life

I hope to see some of you online. I could do with some regular competitive clean but chilled racers. :-)

ps also learn some driving tips :-)

Very good OP :))))

This is my first post here in several months now and this was what i needed to get back in. I haven't played so much in the last few months either, but started again after 2.0, and i really must say that this game is the only game that gives me such good feelings. I feel sorry for those who for some reason is unable to fully enjoy the game for what it is.

Why limit the amount of joy you get from a game as good as this? Nobody's perfect, nor is any game either.

To me, nothing ANY game offers out there is better than the Ring at night, hardcore style. That pic posted by Vandaliser says it all.

I approve this thread. :)
Only 21, started playing racing games on the PS1 with NASCAR '98 and then soon GT1. I still remember me thinking this while playing GT1 & 2: "I hope one day Gran Turismo will have a cockpit view" (NASCAR '98 and ToCA 2 had them), "NASCAR cars would be awesome", "I wish this game would have weather effects", "A track editor like in V-Rally 2 and Moto Racer would be awesome", "Oh man, hope the Nürburgring Nordschleife will be in the series" and "GoKarts would be cool". Talk about "dreams coming true".

I suppose there are. :yuck: Thank you for illustrating your point.

Oh yeah, the old DOS Test Drive games. I remember that and how it seemed like the closest thing to driving a real car. Amazing how newer technology puts it to shame.
