With the WMA World Rally Championship coming closer and closer, teams are working all hours to prepare. Mitsubishi Team RALLIART and the Subaru World Rally Team are preparing to fight it out against each other for another season, whereas one of the remaining Japanese teams is under the radar, Suzuki Motorsport. Suzuki have had bad experiences in rally before, only lasting one season in 2008 in the FIA regulated version of the series. However, the team aims to fight back and redeem themselves in the 2013 season of the WMA regulated series with their new driver, Katie Bushell.
Katie is the only female in the team, and the whole series, but she doesn't let that affect her. In the pre-season rallies, she has showed consistency with her times, and aims to put Suzuki Motorsport back on the map.
"Suzuki had a bad year in 2008, and went home with their tail between their legs. I want to make sure they can achieve their rally dreams in 2013, and hopefully not feel a sense of déja-vu." she told us. "Apparently I've been showing consistency in the pre-season rallies, and I'm hoping I can keep that consistency when the real season starts. Of course, the consistency I was showing was not good enough for me, if I'm not first, I'm last. The Mitsubishi boys are my biggest problem - both of them were unstoppable, and they're very talented drivers with a lot more experience than me. However, I won't let that stop me from putting up a fight. Andrew Geier is a friend of mine, so I'm not afraid of him!" she laughed.
Depsite Suzuki's big hopes for 2013, they have struggled to find a second driver. In the pre-season rallies, they had a second driver signed, however they lost contact with him and he refused to speak to them again, forcing them to remove him as a driver. Suzuki Motorsport will still be able to run in the WRC, however it will all depend on Katie to score them some points.
