The rumors of the Murcielago SV are true. To be unveiled later this year, it is expected that Lamborghini will be finishing off the Murcielago's last years with a bang by offering the first RWD Lamborghini for sale in 8 years since the Diablo GT's departure.

Now, I'm not a giant fan of the larger spoiler, as seen in the pictures, but it looks ok from the front (rear is a bit of a different story). I am interested, though, in seeing the smaller rear wing, and how Lamborghini will be presenting this monster. I would personally, count on a new wheel set, and a much nicer way to show off the spoiler.
This is the Lamborghini Murciélago SV, a more powerful, lightweight, rear-wheel-drive edition planned for launch later this year.

The SV, expected to be the last evolution of the Lambo’s range-topper, will be based on the current LP640 flagship.

Insiders at Sant’Agata claim that the SV will have more power than the 641bhp V12 Reventon, and should lose at least 100kg over the 1660kg LP640. Power output is expected to be around 680bhp.

Weight will be cut by losing the front differential and driveshafts, the electronic system that raises and lowers the rear spoiler and the multimedia system, and by using lightweight alloys and carbonfibre door panels.

Expect the SV’s static wing to come in carbonfibre, too, and for buyers to be able to choose between a smaller wing and the larger, more extravagant one seen in these pictures.

The Murciélago SV takes its name from the Diablo SV, which also lost its four-wheel drive system in favour of rear-wheel drive.

The wing gets to be a bit much the more you move around the car. It should be a great, fun car though. Any idea where it'll debut?

The wing comes in 2 sizes, but expect the debut at the Paris Auto Show.

Looks great. Could you post that PS that someone did with the SV paintwork a couple months? I actually loved that one.

Thank the R8 for this one.
Why? Because of the V12 Concept, even though this has been in testing & spotted since last year?

I'd rather have a Gallardo that's RWD personally. I find it a better looking car than the Murc.

Perhaps for when the Gallardo starts getting old. Expect the next Gallardo model (excluding the easily-known-coming LP560/4 Spyder) some 2-3 years from now to possibly be a RWD.

Isn't the Murcielago practically impossible to drive at 100% with AWD? I can't imagine it being funner with the power only in back. Must be frightening.

Perhaps when you push them to hard in corners as Clarkson has demonstrated with both LP640 models. However, the VT system does a pretty good job keeping the car planted on the road. Lamborghini, though, is not only dropping the AWD system, but giving owners a 680Bhp V12. :scared:

-> Not bad, I hope it will be as discreet as the Diablo version, but performance of a hyper car. I'm looking forward on how will it performs, sounds like the Reventon is a waste of money.

~> I'm liking it...kinda (need more pics). 10% Fail.

I'd rather have a proper Ferrari...

...But yes, it makes me happy that they're doing it. I imagine the performance will be nothing short of spectacular, and of course, will come with my most-important quality: The ability to kill you. Easily....

Of course for some reason I like the bloated look...perhaps because the rear wheels get that wicked offset!

Thank the R8 for this one.

...how?

Did you just use "discreet" and "Diablo" in the same sentence? ;)

This sounds awesome. It's going to be said when the Murc finally goes, so it's good to see it doing so with a bang. Ferraris are so clinical these days, and as they're moving to more and more electronics, it's refreshing to see Lambo taking them away. Seriously... 1560kg and 680bhp? What else even offers that other than the Veyron and the 'Eggs?

Audi R8 = Quattro, so if the VAG is making a similar car with a bigger engine, it would make more sense to develop rwd with the R8 still there for awd.

^ I agree, just look at the back of BOTH of them, its a given. :indiff:

:indiff:

Whatever! Both of those cars are the hawtest cars on the road! Although I'd have to agree that I'd take the LP640 in exactly that color.

:D
But I'll still have the LP640 thank you...... :indiff:
To be honest, it sounds great to have a 680HP RWD Murcie. Its almost as crazy as Lamborghini can get! As many has said, I think the wing (even as effective as it is) doesn't really suit the line of the car. But I wonder how that "other" wing is gonna look like on the Murcie.......

Im thinking removing AWD will remove a lot of weight as that system is heavy!

Rear wheel drive is going to be seriously just for the pro's people can't even manage standard murcielago's!

Ok, but how should the SV thank the R8? What, you think the V12 TDI could steal sells away from the Murcielago? I hate it to inform you bro, but every 2008 and half the 2009 units of the LP640 are taken. The car is virtually unavailable as new, and this will more than likely follow that same suit. Lamborghini isn't worried about the new V12 R8 in any fashion, besides what it might be able to do on a track.

As for the spoiler, this isn't our final production look fellas, so we may see the spoiler presented in a different way.

Well thats a relief. :) I know someone mentioned this somewhere, but I agree with him on having the subtle Gallardo Superlegera spoiler. It would provide form and functionality without sacrificing looks. Just thought I would say it here. 👍

It's a puddytat. I caned the hell out of the one I drove (okay, it was at Thruxton race circuit) and it never felt like giving up in a nasty way. Awesome fun.

I thought the R8 was getting a V10 for the R8 (there goes the Gallardo), and would *maybe* get V8 TDI if they go diesel. I don't think that comes anywhere close to doing much to Lamborghini. The Audi is still German after all...

I don't follow it close enough, Audi is just one of those brands that build cars that are reactive to Mercedes and BMW, and then they have to react back to that.

On that note: SL63 FTW... Especially when compared to the R8.

I know, man. Listen, it wasn't such an ultra-serious comment anyway so let's drop it. I was just talking about a RWD Lambo as referenced in the thread title.

Thus the signature?

A V12 seems less efficient than it could be, but the fact that it's there in a Lamborghini pleases me, if that is old news. Any clues to power-to-weight ratio?
