Removing the 4WD system doesn't make the car any lighter. Sure its lighter in a sense, but you chuck out all the luxuries, replace the windows to something lighter, have some carbon body kits/ parts, put a roll cage and you have a lightweight supercar
It might in this case since Lamborghini is removing the front differential & driveshafts.

The car will also be E-Gear standard as Lamborghini feels the 680 horses will keep the owners more than busy. However, it isn't entirely confirmed that the 6-speed may not become an option.

That makes me sad, because E-Gear is terrible. Though I would prefer that to the shift linkage breaking apart in my hand while cruising at 180...

1. The idea of such a car is exactly what Lamborghini needs to "get its balls back". Kind of what DKR did for Batman. Not that a 640HP mostly-rear-drive scissor-door car could ever be confused with a blue-rinser's grocery transport, but it's a far cry from the Coutach and Diablo of old. The Superleggera didn't go far enough by half.

2. That wing is ginormous. I'm sure it's functional; few aspects of any Lamborghini are not functional. It just looks like some aftermarket toy rather than the result of extensive time in a wind tunnel. I'd rather no wing if indeed that banana peel sitting 8" off the back doesn't actually work.

Argh..... I should have said the car should be like an R-GT, only that its street legal.... :banghead: Yeah, the E-Gear should help control the power a little compared to a H-Gears. Maybe there is an option for the H-Gears for future models of the car? :D

I read though the whole thread and yeah... I just have to agree with Yssman. Seems like less flash and more dash. Don't think I'll die any slower in either though...

I'd rather have a proper Ferrari...

Maybe. The Superleggera is E-Gear standard, but has a 6-speed option.

Es - I don't think people will be concerned about wet-weather performance for this. It's all about track-times, as far as I'd care anyways.

heh. itd take outrageous gas prices, snow, or ice to keep me off the road/track.

Didn't see a thread on this, but will update when/if anymore info comes out. I was browsing Wikipedia and chanced upon this...
Spied just recently, the highly rumored, Lamborghini Murciélago SV, is officially underway. The Murciélago SV (SV referring to Sport Veloce) drops the Viscous Traction 4WD system in favour of RWD, much like the Diablo SV. The Murciélago SV is rumored to have 2 available spoiler sizes, save 100 kg (220 lb), and expecting an extra 40 horsepower over the Reventon. The Murciélago SV will be the last model for Murciélago for a few years until the Murciélago's successor is unveiled. The car is expected to be unveiled at the Paris Motor Show later this year.

40hp over the Reventon? That's 690hp!

Can not wait.

Anyone else think the way the SV is written on the Lambo makes it look like it says SL?

I always thought it was SL on the Diablo until I found out it was SV!

I doubt Mercedes would let that go, however. :p

Spy photographers have spotted a rather suspicious looking Lamborghini Murcielago out on the roads of Europe. While the body of the prototype remains relatively unchanged from the current Murcielago, the car’s large rear wing indicates that something special lies beneath.

All indications would seem to suggest that this is a prototype for the upcoming Lamborghini Murcielago SV — a more high-performance version of the Italian supercar.

Reports surfaced late last year that Lamborghini was developing an SV version of the Murcielago to mark the car’s production end. As with previous Lamborghini SV models, the Murcielago SV will ditch its all-wheel drive system for a lighter rear-wheel drive setup. To further save weight, Lamborghini will attach a fixed spoiler to the Murcielago — instead of the current car’s automatic spoiler setup — and will also use several carbon fiber pieces to save on weight. In all, the Murcielago SV should shave about 100kg.

The Murcielago’s power will also be raised — trumping the Reventon’s 640 horsepower by at least 40 — which will further enhance the SV’s performance. Lamborghini’s E-gear is also said to be part of the SV package, but shift times should be cut in half.

Lamborghini promised to show one new car at every major auto show this year, and it looks like the Italian automaker will keep true to its word. Look for the Murcielago to debut at the Paris Motor Show later this year. source

Either way, looks like the original from certain angles, but that single black stripe running from the base of the windshield down near the bottom of the car bothers me...

SHAZAM!

Lamborghini Press Release
The Lamborghini Murciélago is one of the most extraordinary super sports cars of all time. Automobili Lamborghini has now expanded its model range with a new, exceptionally purist and even more extreme top model – the Murciélago LP 670-4 SuperVeloce is even more powerful, lighter and faster than the Murciélago LP 640. With the output of the 6.5 liter V12 increased to 670 hp and a weight reduction of 100 kg (220 lbs), the Murciélago LP 670-4 SuperVeloce boasts a power-to-weight ratio of 2.3 kg (5.1 lbs) per hp. This catapults it from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in a breathtaking 3.2 seconds and powers it on to a top speed of around 342 km/h (212 mph). Distinctive design refinements ensure that each of this 350-unit limited edition series conveys its full potential from the very first glance.

More Pics and Information Here

Well, its here. Looks the part, likely lives up to it too. Sooo, how long until the Germans find something better to play with?

Would be better to be in the proper thread, no? In case we want to focus only on the SV, and not that silly 599XX (which I'd rather have anyway). But who was asking about that?

Some details & options:

1. The spoiler we're seeing is the bigger wing. The standard will be shown soon.
2. The racing seats with the carbon fibre shell come standard. They are removed from the US-model Superleggera's. Regular Murcielago seats are also available, no charge.
3. Colors are: Pearl Yellow, Pearl Orange, Black, White, or Grey, no fee. Matte Black or White are $14K options.
4. The interior can not be changed.
5. Under the previously shown Ad Persona Program, you can request stuff. The factory will give estimates & if possible.
6. The big wing (the one here) is a $7,000 option.
7. 350 limited; All 2010 MY cars.
8. 6 Speed is actually available; $1,480 option.
9. No SV Logo on side is a $2,000 option (yes, you read that right).
10. Fire Extinguisher is $850, Flat tire kit is $800, & Blue Tooth Nav. is $4,560.

All details courtesy of Roy Cats. :)

So, basically I have to rob a bank to get one in purple with the "extra" wing and an SV badge to boot? Hmmm.

Still makes me wish they would have "magically" made 666 BHP out of it too.

Obviously, I have a difficult time reading.

Can I pay them $2000 to make it bigger?

I think it might be pretty cool to have the badge bigger. Why didn't they do it like they did on the Diablo?

I like it, but when something weighs near 3,700 lbs., is a 220 lb. difference going to affect much? Plus 4.6% power, minus 5.6% weight, plus what-% price? I'm guessing at least 30%. Is it going to be 30% more fun? I doubt it will be a duffer, but it's not like moving from a R/T to an SRT8 (replace with your upgrade of choice). Still...looks like hell on wheels...like a Lamborghini should. :)

Those numbers add up to a 12% gain in power-to-weight. I don't think that it will only cost 12% more, I'm sure it'll be at least 35% more, but it's a Lamborghini. These numbers don't mean anything at all. The power-weight ratio increase is more force to an already-extremely ample supply, which is all that matters.
